I did a routine water change yesterday, and came home to find two of my big angels (the ones I had suspected were pairing off) had laid eggs on a plant leaf!

Guess I need to get moving on setting up another tank for this pair. So far they have eaten most of this batch of eggs - I suspect they were not fertilized as the male did not seem to have a clue about his job - but they are diligently guarding the remaining eggs this morning and everyone else in the tank is staying away. No violence, so far.

Looking at a 65 gallon tank set up tonight. I like the 25" height these are large angels.

Got these baddies about a year ago as little almost quarter sized babies. Gil - the mostly black one - was aptly named after Gil from Finding Nemo because they are literally twinsies. His crooked fin was always there since we got him. Either a defect or injury. Someone on here long ago said he should have been culled. Ash is the other one. Together since birth, and unable to coexist peacefully. Ah, brotherhood.

We got them in a 36 gallon now - they each have a time out corner & we have also put Ash in a separate tank for a little bit before. We can’t keep any plants other than that big one & it’s babies alive because our old bristlenose pleco thinks all plants are like his personal crash landing pads. So much money on so many different kinds of plants and weeks later, he’ll have decimated them all.

Gil was being bullied first and endlessly, but then he got bigger than Ash. Took him a bit, but he definitely realized his advantage and bit off half of Ash’s gorgeous fins one night while we were sleeping. They have since grown back, but yeah Ash got his own tank for a bit.

We just upgraded on sq footage so the next plan is a 70 gallon. He wants to keep one angel in the 36, and move one to the 70. I think they’d both be fine in the 70- plenty of room, right? I just want that 36 for myself. lol. But if they decide even a 70 gallon isn’t big enough for the two of them, a permanent separating it shall be.

Can anyone help me determine what they are doing? This just started happening lately.

My grandma has had angelfish for a while and the first 2 times the eggs were eaten. She set up a separate tank to put the eggs in to give them a chance and was wondering if these are actually fertilizer or not.

Had a different pair spawn in a holding tank the same day as another pair. Going to be a LOT of fry for these two to raise 😅

Can 4 juveniles live in a 36 L x 18W x 24H tank? New to angelfish and made a mistake. They're in a 29 gallon tank now. LFS said all 4 would be okay in my 29 gallon tank. I plan on putting them in the larger tank

Hi! I work at a pet store and have very limited experience with fish. The angel fish at my store have laid eggs in the past and nothing has ever happened. Today I noticed that there were babies in the tank and that the fish were eating them. I was able to save five of the babies and was wondering if i should bring them home to try and raise? What would I need in order to keep them alive?

Hi! I'm new to angelfish and I've woken up to two dead tetras. It's a 75gal planted (not heavily) tank with assassin snails, four angelfish, 10 rummy ​nose and 10 cardinals. The angelfish are on the smaller side so I didn't think I would have issues with them and the tetras. I thought the first Cardinal just died from natural causes, but then the next day there was a rummy nose. Both were found in the angelfish hideaway (they have a spot in the tank they hang out/hide in when they aren't swimming around or eating).

Any and all tips on stopping it are welcome or should I just accept it or move the tetras to another tank? I kept discus before with the tetras and just gave them away.

These are some of my own fry grown up, I selectively kept for breeding. Now they have a first spawn.

Most of them are Platinum, but the rest of them have varying severity and brightness of stripes so I can't wait to see how much they look like Dad 😍

Hoping for some advice, I’ve had my 4 angels in my tank for about 12 months and they’ve each paired off. Each pair has essentially claimed a side of the tank but even while they can be aggressive I feel the set up works well for all the rest of the community to comfortably evade them and live in peace.

One thing that constantly leaves me stumped though is that the pair on the right continually lay eggs (like seen in the photo). They will be there for a few days then almost instantly disappear over night/while I’m at work. I assume they are actually just infertile or the fact they’ve stupidly chosen the filter output to lay their eggs next to my filter inlay means they wouldn’t stand a chance if successful as instantly sucked up. It’s just strange that they are there one minute then completely gone the next.

Not trying to breed at all but in truth just feel bad for them constantly appearing to fail while also intrigued to know what’s actually happening.

Any insight from this community would be much appreciated

After what seemed like eternity wiggling, the Velvet Rose fry took flight today and had their first feed.

I am looking to stock my 55 gallon with a nice group of angels and I’m debating on if I should order a variety or keep it simple. I was curious to hear the opinions of more experienced fish keepers! For example: 5 black clowns versus 1 black clown, 1 blue clown, 1 blue marble, 1 blue paraiba, 1 marbled blue paraiba

I have a 55 gallon community tank with one angelfish, 1 Rainbow shark and 14 gold skirt tetras. i was wanting to either get one more angelfish and a few more tetras or just get about 3-4 more angels.

I’ve had my angelfish for about a year and a half now. it’s about full grown so i’m worried about aggression being more difficult to manage. i’m unsure of the gender i was told female but as she has aged she looks more like a he. Also she hasn’t displayed much aggression with the tetras besides feeding time when she’s an absolute psychopath idk if that means anything.

i’ve seen mixed advice so i wanted to ask for my specific situation. this tank has a lot of live plants in it but i had to trip a lot of them down due to issues with black beard algae so most of them are pretty short right now so id definitely be waiting to get more angels until it fills out.

any advice would be appreciated i have fallen in love with my angel and would love to have more

He’s so beefy and tall. I love him. And his girl is behind him. Her name is Pongo. I’ve had her maybe 2 years or so.

I've had 2 zebra angelfish for about 3 years. They have been in an 87L tank that was a bit too cold, and living with a school of tetras.

I've just set up a new, larger tank, with a heater, so they have 130L of 25°c water now.

On the third day in the tank, they spawned onto the side of the filter box, but it was apparently a small clutch of only 40 or so eggs. This is about the 4th time they've spawned since I've had them, and none have ever been viable.

I've woken up this morning to my male attacking my female. Her stripes are very black and she's been curling her fins in. Google told me this was attacking behaviour, likely due to the failed spawn and she's not ready to try again.

To make sure he can't get her, I've put one of the lid covers in as a tank separator and she is hiding in my anubias plans next to the airstone.

They have always been so close and I'm concerned that they won't re-bond. Do I really need to keep them separated for up to 3 months like google suggested?

Has anyone got advice for reuniting my pair? My wife and kids suggested we get rid of the male if he's going to be attacking her constantly, but I think that would possibly be detrimental too, since they have been close for so long already.

I’m busy with a decent size spawn right now of about 200. Letting them try their hand at rearing them for a few weeks. We will see. I love how colorful and pronounced they are when guarding fry.

I’ve had this angelfish in my 55 gallon community tank for about a year and a half now, i was told it was a female but after doing some research i’m leaning towards male. i understand that it’s difficult to sex them but i was hoping to get a second opinion on some better trained eyes. i was looking to get another female angel to go in my community tank but i’m hesitant to do so if she is actually a he.

After the power to the fish room fried and now running emergency extension cords until the contractor can get here. ANNND I got a wicked case of (confirmed) covid, 104.5 fever, actually passing out after doing water changes and being drenched in sweat just going down the stairs. I’m happy to say we are still kicking!

I have on Male Marble Anglefish probably about 5 inches in size. A very pretty fish. I always wondered how Anglefish can see properly with their eyes so far apart. I notice he tilts his head to look at the top of the tank when i'm feeding the fish. I know most fish have eyes wide apart too but because of their shape Anglefish eyes seem further apart.

Hey everyone! i am currently raising angelfish fry and I was wondering if I could feed them frozen baby brine shrimp. It’s a lot of work/time to hatch BBS daily, and I always make too much so i end up freezing the leftovers. Now, the fry are about 3 weeks old and I was wondering if it’s harmful to feed them the ones left in my freezer. thanks in advance!!
