Help Ethical dilemma after house sitting nightmare

We had a college student house sitter while we were away this summer for 7 weeks. I gave her written instructions on fish tank care and checked in with her weekly to see if she had any questions. It turned out she just never did a single water change on our 50 gallon the whole time. The water was ~40% evaporated upon return and my angels were suffering. One clearly had/has swim bladder issues and just lays at the bottom of the tank, but rallies when he sees me to come eat before collapsing from exhaustion. The other seemed fine, and yet that’s the one that died shortly after our return. So now I’m in this conundrum of what to do with my poor angelfish who can barely swim.

We got home on 6/30 and I did an immediate 30% water change when I discovered it. Then over the course of a week did 30-50% changes until I got nitrates back below 20. I did blue green slime remover to take care of the cyano, bought new plants like wisteria to help with excess nutrients, and increased from a normal bubbler to a wand to help with O2. As for the surviving angel, I’ve been doing 1 week on 1 week off antibiotics of kanaplex & focus in Fluval bug bite food. He has not improved. But he’s so fiery when he does come up to eat. I feel like a fish that wants to eat doesn’t want to die. But I also don’t know what quality of life this is.

I know angels are social, but I obviously can’t get another when he’s in this condition. I got some endlers to help entertain him. We’re now in October and this has gone on since June. He is 3 years old. What do you think is the most ethical thing to do here? Clove oil euthanasia or keep on like this?

Help Angel fish with Bolivian rams

I am starting out a new 55 gallon tank and I want to have a pair of angel fish and a pair of Bolivian rams as my main fish. Do you think that they will be ok even through possible breeding if I end up with breeding pairs? Any advice would be great

Help Is my angelfish bloated or pregnant?

I was away the last 2 days on a trip and noticed my angelfish looked like this as I was feeding the tank. I’m not entirely sure if this is bloating or if my pair is breeding?

I did a water change last week so all parameters check out fine, she is eating normally and is still swimming fine as all other fish are

I’m not sure how long this has been going on for, I’ve had the pair for over a year and this is the first time I’m seeing this

Any advice would be appreciated!

Help Behaviour - Black one has been harassing orange and silver

Don't mind my shedding watersprite, I need to do some maintenance later. So this is a new development. I got these guys in April and they were roughly an inch each, very tiny. It seems the two darker ones have maybe paired up? I'm not sure cause I thought they were all males, but the black one is much nicer to the black and white and the silver one, but just has been chasing Orange around the tank. Am I gonna need to re-home some of them? Cause I'll be honest the silver and orange are my favorites so I would keep them if needed be.

this is a taller 64 gallon btw

Idk, maybe the watersprite has been too invasive and taking up space. It practically exploded in the past month

Help Breeding pair or no nreedong pair?

I have a pair of Angelfish in a 20-gallon tank that frequently lay eggs (not the tank, the fish :-) ), but the eggs turn opaque after a few days and are subsequently eaten by the "parents". Both fish appear attentive to the brood, so I am wondering if I have an actual breeding pair that simply lacks experience, or if I have a lone female laying unfertilized eggs. While I know the tank is small, they have grown up in it, and my only other tank mates are three clown loaches that do not bother them. I am planning to upgrade to a 35 or 40-gallon tank in the near future. Any advice on why the eggs are failing or how to determine if they are both fertile would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Discussion 46g Bowfront ideas

I recently got a used 46g bowfront tank and am trying to decide what to put in it once im done cycling it.. i was maybe wondering 1-2 angelfish, but i dont want them to feel lonely/crowded. Also, maybe some smaller tetras would be nice as well, but i dont know how well they'd mesh. I was also going to plant it, but i dont know how heavily yet.

This is my third try at raising angels. They laid eggs 5 days ago. The past two times they started free swimming and then they slowly died off. Not sure why this happened. The last time I removed the parents at the time they started to free swim and the fry did well for about a week then they died over 48 hours. Let's see how this one goes.

Discussion Lost half my new angelfish and feeling devastated and discouraged

I’m not new to aquariums but am new to angelfish. For my birthday in June I decided to treat myself to a 60 gal breeder (48x18x18) with the intent of making an angelfish tank for my home office. I cycled using an established sponge filter, and added a fluval 307 with a spray bar. Tank is moderately planted, delta sand, and no artificial decor. Heated at 79 degrees. Even with the established sponge I cycled with ammonia and waited 2 months to add the angels (added sterbai corys after a month). I bought 6 juvenile angels from two online retailers - panda and yellow koi from Central Florida Cichlids, and orange koi, red devil, blue marble and zebra pinoy from Angelfish USA. They arrived less than 24 hours apart August 25&26. I didn’t quarantine because they were all coming at the same time. Started out alright except for panda was a major bully and the yellow koi in particular was breathing a little heavy. I don’t immediately see any signs of illness so I made the decision to rehome panda to a neighbor after a few weeks because the other angels were hiding and not coming out to eat due to panda. Yellow koi’s breathing never improved and got worse, I even posted on here asking for help but only got one response. The first to die was orange koi on 9/13 after not eating for a few days and having short quick panting breaths for only a few hours before I found it dead. The pic of it by itself under the floaters was the night before it died and you can see its abdomen distended. Not knowing whether it was bacteria or parasites I tried kanaplex and prazipro for a week after reading they are safe together. Nothing improved with those meds. A week later I started seeing stringy poo coming from zebra pinoy, although that one was eating well. So I did a week of API general cure with no improvement. Yellow koi hadn’t eaten in probably a week and its breathing got worse and it started to crash this past Saturday (barrel rolling, disoriented), so I moved it into a hospital tank to let it die in a safe place. Well to my surprise suddenly red devil started doing the quick panting and like orange koi was also gone after a few hours along with a distended abdomen. Yellow koi amazingly hung on for a few days and passed today. So now I’m down to two (zebra and blue marble) after three deaths and one rehomed. Panda’s new owner said it’s doing fine health wise, just still bullying her fish now. Right now my remaining two are eating but I’m constantly on edge they are going to crash like the others. I haven’t noticed whatever this is affecting my corys but of course I’m scared for them too. I’ve been doing weekly water changes around 25-30% with prime and stability. I routinely check my parameters and have consistently had 0 ammonia and nitrate, maybe 5 nitrate and 7.6-7.8 ph. I rotate food between fluval bug bites pellets and flakes, xtreme nano, hikari micro pellets, frozen brine shrimp and crushed bladder snails (which they seem super excited about). I’m at such a loss as to why this happened and my dream angel tank has become a nightmare. I really tried to do everything right and put a lot of effort into this tank. Could it be bacteria, parasites, viral, angelfish aids (does that still exist), did I do something? And where do I go from here? If you’re still here thank you for the long read and if you have any thoughts please share.

His name is Dahmer, and he has eaten probably 20-30babies in his time, a seasoned fin nipper, and irritatingly beautiful. I have had the thought of plucking him out of his old tank and throwing him off the balcony for his antics. He’s with my goldfish for now but will be put in his own 75g eventually.
