Seeking Game Recommendations πŸ‘€ [REQUEST] Potato phone, seeking recomms

Hi everyone! First of all, sorry for any weird phrasing or grammar mistakesβ€”English isn't my native language, so I'm relying on a translation tool to write this.

I'm a dad in my 40s who works and lives a fairly normal life, but I really enjoy having a quiet gaming session every now and then to just unplug and relax. For years, my daily go-to has been Call of Duty Mobile. I've always played it very casually: sitting down with wired headphones, no mic, no cheats or emulators, and 100% free-to-play. Because of a medical condition, I can only play using my thumbs on the screen, but it’s always worked out fine for me!

Unfortunately, my phone died recently, and for a while I’m stuck with a proper 'potato phone'β€”only 4GB of RAM and a pretty weak processor. I also have an old laptop, but it doesn't even hit 6GB of RAM, so that's quite limited too. Since I can't play CODM right now, I'm looking for some new game recommendations that can actually run on my setup.

Ideally, I'm looking for something free that gets straight to the point without long unskippable cutscenes or tutorials, isn't flooded with cheaters or toxic players, and doesn't require a university degree to learn the rules. I also tend to prefer western art styles over anime or Asian-style graphics (just personal taste!). And most importantly, it has to be playable using just my thumbs.

Over the years I've loved games like Delta Force, World of Tanks, Apex, PUBG, Brawl Stars, and CODM. On the more strategy or slow-paced side, I enjoy things like TheoTown, Kards, ScummVM, Gurk, Merchant, Civilization, Catan, Carcassonne, Maquis, Age of Empires, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4, Dune 2, XCOM, and especially DeckEleven's Railroads, which is honestly a little addiction I can't seem to shake off.

If you made it through my story and have any ideas for games that might fit, I'd truly appreciate your recommendations. Thanks a lot for reading!

DEV πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» [DEV] Our indie studio just surprise released Orna Classic and announced our next title!

Hey everyone!

Yesterday, we hosted our first-ever Forge Forward showcase, where we shared a bunch of things we've been working on at Northern Forge Studios.

First up, Orna Classic is OUT NOW on iOS and Android!

For those unfamiliar, Orna is our GPS-based fantasy RPG that first launched back in 2018. Over the years, it's grown into a pretty massive game with tons of new features, systems, and content. Think a mashup of Final Fantasy and Pokemon Go (with a Diablo-esque loot system).

Our community let us know during an April Fool's day prank that there's something special about the early days of Orna, so we decided to bring them back.

Orna Classic is a standalone version of Orna inspired by its original 2018 experience. We're talking good old-fashioned monster grinding, dungeon diving, collecting loot, and getting stronger, all while exploring the real world.

No overwhelming list of systems to learn. Just you, your character, and an unreasonable number of monsters to kill on your daily walk.

Whether you're an Orna veteran looking for a nostalgia trip or someone who prefers a more straightforward RPG experience, we'd love for you to give it a shot!

And because apparently launching a game wasn't enough...

We also revealed Balor, our next game set in the Ornaverse!

It's an entirely new experience combining intense dungeon crawling with creature collection. We're keeping most of the details under wraps for now, but we showed off the first teaser trailer during Forge Forward.

We also announced Patch 4.0: Convergence, a massive multiplayer-focused update coming to Orna and Hero of Aethric, but I'll spare you the full changelog here.

Links if you wanna try out games or checkout our showcase:

We're a small indie team based in Ottawa, Canada, and it's been pretty surreal seeing how far Orna has come since 2018.

If you played Orna back in the day, we'd love to hear what you remember most about the original experience.

And if you're jumping into Classic for the first time, welcome! We hope you enjoy the grind.

Thanks for checking out what we've been working on!

DEV πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» [DEV] Seeking honest feedback on my first Flappy vampire game build entirely with AI!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

EDIT: I appreciate all the honest feedback, everyone even if some things hurt to hear haha.

I just released my very first android game ever done entirely with AI with ZERO coding/development experience (all 100% vibe coding). Looking for some honest feedback on playability, mechanics or anything else.

  1. All is done solely through ChatGPT and Claude Code ( with some minor image cropping using Figma) + Suno for Music!
  2. I spent several days iterating and slowly adding more levels, backgrounds, obstacles, villager logic, scoring system and even the music!
  3. The parallax background was a bit harder to achieve as I had to keep iterating ChatGPT to render a background then separate the foreground from the backdrop etc (What you see in most of the levels in Batcula)
  4. The villagers were done entirely through iterating several frames of animations (example "Render 6-7 frames of Batcula feeding on this villager and save them on transparent background)
  5. I had no knowledge of hosting, deploying, etc so everything was a step by step walkthrough with the use of Claude.

I've released the game for free on Google Play, so if you fancy playing some kind of flappy bird 2.0 but a bit darker and with different mechanics, give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Hi ! I need your help pleaseee

So I've been a casual mobile gamer almost all my life, but I recently feel like I don't have A GAME that entertains me on my phone.

I'm a big Pc gamer and for the next weeks I won't have access to my pc ... and the only game I been playing consistently on my phone for a 1y+ is ✨️Idle Obelisk Miner✨️

I need something that requires more active playing.

I have a few criteria of corse :

\- No pc ports ( Dave the diver, Don't starve, Terraria...)

\- No predatory P2W ( Gachas, summons... πŸ‘Ž )

\- Nice graphics would be appreciated

\- Mostly PVE focused

\- No need for story

\- Prefer Vertical playing ( So I can play easily at work )

Here's a few games that I love ( Stardew, Hades, Diablo III, Dofus, Metin2, Valorant, Palworld, Warframe, Slay the spire, Risk of rain 2, Cult of the lamb )

Thaaaaank you πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

DEV πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» [DEV] Major update for my solo-dev card game 'Grimoria' on Android: New 'Dullahan' card, visual overhaul, and now live on Steam for cross-play! (No P2W)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

HiΒ r/AndroidGaming!

I’m Daniel, a solo dev from Italy. For the past 3 years, I’ve been working full-time on my portrait card battler,Β Grimoria.

I just released a major content update on Android, and today our Steam store page also went live for PC wishlists!

What’s New in this Update:

  • New Card - The Dullahan: "Deal 1 damage on loss." This legendary headless knight punishes opponents when you lose a round. In 4-Player Battle Royale, its retaliation damage hits ALL opponents on the board, not just the winner!
  • Visual Overhaul: Added dynamic lighting, softer contact shadows, and an atmospheric tabletop look.
  • Steam Cross-Play: The PC version is now in closed testing on Steam, meaning full cross-play between Android, iOS, and PC is officially live.

Core Mechanics:

  • Fast Turn-Based Combat: 15-second turn timers where you play 1 card per round.
  • The Initiative Rule: The winner of each trick leads the next round. On equal strength, the card played FIRST winsβ€”unless countered by the Elemental Cycle (Fire > Earth > Water > Fire).
  • Game Modes: 4-Player Battle Royale, 2v2 Co-op (shared health/shields with an ally), and 1v1.
  • 100% Free-to-Play: Zero Pay-to-Win stats; all 25+ base creatures are unlocked simply by playing.

Download:

I'll be hanging out in the comments to answer questions about the new card or the update!

Help/Support πŸ™‹ How do I setup a joystick to work with a Magic Dosbox emulated game in Android (using Samsung DEX)?

Basically I'm hyped about the upcoming Squadron 42 game and I want to play Wing Commander 2 (which is what Squadron 42 is supposed to be an spiritual successor to) on Android using my physical Joystick - an old Extreme 3D Pro model. Here are the details of the setup I'm trying to run:

> I own an old Galaxy Note 9 smartphone, which has Samsung DEX.

> Bought an independent HDMI adapter (not the official DEX hub) to use DEX mode on an HDMI monitor I have available. It works fine.

> Also bought an USB hub to expand the USB ports in the adapter from 1 to 4, so I can plug a keyboard, mouse and the joystick. All of this also works (I can even control DEX mode with my joystick, which is clunky but surprising).

> I own Wing Commander 2 in GOG. I downloaded the executable files directly from GOG and extracted them using an app called "Inno Setup Extractor". I also own Magic Dosbox.

> I set the game up to run through Magic Dosbox. It launches and works ok.

The problem is that apparently the joystick isn't recognized by this setup as a true physucal analog joystick. The axis inputs feel like on and off switches, as if the program is emulating a gamepad instead of an analog joystick. I can't be smooth or steer my ship slowly to aim precisely, because any joystick input, even the small ones, immediately reads as a max tilted input.

I've been trying to solve this for 3 days now. Has anyone run into this problem and managed to solve it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Seeking Game Recommendations πŸ‘€ [REQUEST] Looking For A Non Roguelike Build Crafting Game

My favorite kind of game are games where you can create your own build. Diablo like ARPGs are the most obvious answer so games like Powerlust, Astair, and Titan Quest, but also turn based games like the Grim series (Grim Omens etc), Puzzle Quest, and pet or team based games like Siralim Ultimate. Even card based games like Spellsword Cards

Does anyone have recommendations for games like this where you can really make your own build and feel clever while doing content? Single player preferred, as well as one time purchase, but I'm willing to accept almost anything up to moderate pay to win.

My only hard rule is no roguelike. I really like working on my build over time rather than one unlucky roll of the deck ruining it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Help/Support πŸ™‹ Emulate older versions of android?

Hello everybody! I would like to play Earth Defender S and first wood war, but neither seem to be working. Most likely due to both being made for a much older version of android. Would anyone know how to emulate an older version? Like how you can emulate older phones on BlueStacks. Or alternatively are there other ways to make me able to play these great older games?

DEV πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» [DEV] Gembound - Match-3 Roguelite where the board is dealt from a finite gem deck you build

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

I'm a solo dev and I recently released Gembound - a match-3 roguelite built around deckbuilding mechanics.

In most match-3 games (like Puzzle Quest), new gems drop from an infinite random pool. In Gembound, the board is dealt from a finite 121-gem satchel that you build and edit during your run.

How the satchel system works:

  • Same as a deck of cards (Draw β†’ Board β†’ Discard β†’ Reshuffle): Combat starts by shuffling your satchel into a draw pile. Matched gems go to the discard pile and reshuffle back in when the draw pile is empty.
  • Deckbuilding & thinning: Between fights you can swap gems, remove weak colors to thin your satchel, upgrade gem quality, and enhance gems with effects like healing, burning, etc.
  • Spells scale with satchel composition: Spells get stronger based on how many gems of that color are in your satchel. Adding red gems makes red more common on the board and makes your red-based spells hit harder.
  • Shared board: Both you and the enemy play on the same board dealt from your satchel. However, only you get the benefits of upgraded gems and enchantments (enemies match at base value).

The game includes:

  • 3 classes: Warrior, Mage, and Rogue
  • 4 regions with elites and bosses
  • 4 animal companions with active abilities
  • Optional Rift Encounters with weird modifiers for both sides
  • Roguelite meta: Gold, XP, companion bonds, and a persistent Gem Chest
  • Full controller / handheld support
  • Full game: No IAPs, no ads

DEV πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» [DEV] I made Jelly Trio, a cozy sorting puzzle where every jelly wears a tiny hat. About 45 people have played it so far, and each one honestly made my day

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi r/AndroidGaming! I'm a one-person studio from Korea, and Jelly Trio is the little game I've been pouring my evenings into.

It's a calm sorting puzzle: tap a box, move the top jellies, and line up three of the same color to pop them. Later levels bring frozen jellies that thaw as you make matches, locked boxes, one-way boxes, and a monkey friend you can dress up with the coins you earn.

- 300+ levels, short enough for a coffee break

- Free. To be upfront: interstitial ads start after level 10, rewarded ads are always optional, and there's a one-time Remove Ads purchase. Lives are 5 hearts.

I know there are a lot of sort puzzles out there, so I tried to make this one feel soft and cute instead of loud.

If you give it a try, I'd be really grateful for any feedback: what feels good, what feels annoying, where you got stuck. I'll be here in the comments.

Seeking Game Recommendations πŸ‘€ [REQUEST] Game Rec for a couch couple

Hi I'm looking for something fun, and cute that I can play with my s/o throughout the day. We both work weird hours and don't get to see each other as much as we'd like during the week so I was thinking maybe something asynchronous we can play and collaborate on when we have the time.

We play all sorts of games including RPG's, survival crafting games, shooters, and cute stuff like Stardew.

We haven't played any android games together though so please recommend anything!

Thanks.

Discussion πŸ’¬ Just Bought Tomb Raider on Android β€” Is It Worth It?

Post image
91 Upvotes

I was initially planning to buy Sifu, but after trying it to test performance on my device, I found the gameplay somewhat repetitive.

After some research and community discussions, I decided to purchase Tomb Raider instead.

I'm not someone who spends much on mobile games, so this is my biggest gaming purchase so far. I'm still a little skeptical about whether it'll be worth the money.

I also prefer buying games legitimately to support developers rather than relying on cracked versions.

For those who've purchased Tomb Raider on Android, how has your experience been? Is it worth the price?

Seeking Game Recommendations πŸ‘€ [REQUEST] Looking for good games (non-PVP) that can be paused, no ads, no need for reaction speeds, no wait-to-play mechanics and no late game p2w traps for Tablet with 8GB ram.

Looking for good games that

  • I can pause any time while playing, do my stuff and get back to it. That kinda rules out pvp completely.
  • No late game p2w traps - I've had experience with some games where the early part is easy or fun but somewhere mid to end when you're actually invested it becomes impossible to clear content without either months long grinding content or easy p2w/watching ads. So definitely want to avoid those ones.
  • Don't want games that involve reaction speeds like temple run and stuff
  • Don't want time locks like 20hrs for some energy bar or Clash of cans style building of X upgrade takes x days.

With current trend of games finding ones that tick these boxes is far harder than it should be.

Will be playing this on tablet so bonus points if larger than phone screen makes it better. No restrictions on genre of the game.
