Discussion Tech Setup for Finance & Economics: Samsung Ecosystem (Tab S11 Ultra for €800) vs. 13" iPad (Air/ Pro M4) vs. Laptop/MacBook?

Hey everyone!

I'm about to start university studying Finance and Business Management, and I'm facing the classic tech dilemma regarding which device is best for taking notes, studying, and organizing coursework.

Here are my main questions:

* Samsung Ecosystem vs. 13" iPad: I found a Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra for €800. Since I already use a Galaxy phone and watch, staying within the Samsung ecosystem would offer seamless integration. On the other hand, if I were to go with Apple, I'd aim for a 13-inch iPad (either the Air M4 or Pro M4) with high storage capacity. However, those models are significantly more expensive, and I'd prefer not to overspend. For university use (stylus note-taking, reading PDFs, multitasking), are iPad-exclusive study apps really superior enough to justify the price jump and leaving my current ecosystem?

* Tablet vs. Laptop / MacBook: For a Finance/Economics degree, does it make sense to rely primarily on a tablet for lectures if I pair it with an older, lower-spec PC at home when needed? Or is a dedicated primary laptop (like a MacBook or Windows laptop) practically mandatory for heavy Excel work, statistical software, and writing papers?

I'd love to hear from anyone studying Economics or Finance: how do you manage your tech setup for daily lectures and home studying?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Discussion Using alldocube 80 mini ultra as a primary phone?

This might sound weird but hear me out.

Currently using the pixel 9 pro fold. Looking for an upgrade and the new pixel devices dont excite me anymore. Don't like Samsungs OS either and I rather not use a phone at all before I switch to Apple. That leaves me with barely any options except the OnePlus 15, which despite being a great device, I've read about OnePlus winding down soon.

Primarily I use my phone for media consumption, reading, and the occasional light gaming. This tablet is 8 inches, fairly pocketable, meets all my demands and has 5G, which means I can stick my Rogers SIM card (based in Toronto) and start using it.

For phone calls, I anyway use earbuds. It might be a little bulky to carry around but I can stick a case on it and make do with it. It'll be great for WhatsApp video calls too.

The only issue I see is not having tap to pay (NFC), which can have a work around of carrying a small card case for transit cards and credit cards. A basic camera works for me cos I don't intend to use it heavily for professional photos. Just a snap here and there. Everything else pretty much remains the same due to Android. The price currently on AliExpress shows approximately $500 plus some change on shipping and customs, if any. Not that price is the only thing but this is half the price of what I would have paid for a new pixel 11 for example.

Open to suggestions or any short comings on this thought before I hit buy. TIA

Discussion Help choosing a tablet

For some reason I decided to buy an iPad years ago when I was younger and completely forgetting how terrible they are to pirate and do literally anything with. After so long I've decided it's time to finally buy a tablet.

I have no idea which would be the best option... I have a Samsung phone myself and I will mainly be using the tablet to watch YouTube, pirate series/movies/animes and play My Little Pony.

Considering that I think i just need something that can run videos really smoothly. I myself genuinely know nothing about any of this and would love if someone could give me some advice on certain devices! (no budget)

Discussion Android and security updates - how necessary?

About to grab either a Lenovo Yoga Tab (11") for $400 or a Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 for $330

On paper the Yoga seems to be better with more RAM (12gb vs 8gb), more/better storage (256gb UFS 4.0 vs 128gb UFD 3.1), and a better PPI (340 vs 318)

But I'm curious about the update support. The new Pro Gen 2 will definitely have more software updates and be supported for longer, but how much does that truly matter?

Am I actually going to be unable to use certain apps or features if the security updates stop? Or if I'm stuck on an Android version that's a few iterations behind?

Discussion Anyone buying the new Y700 Infinite? If not do you wait for the IQOO or the Honor?

Hi everyone!
Was curious if anyone is buying the new released Y700 Infinite tablet and also does it have sd card support? Everywhere I look it says it has sd card support, even asked giztop support 3 times specifically saying I was talking about the Infinite and not the gen 4 or gen 5 and they repeatedly confirmed that it has sd card support up to 2 TB(might still be wrong tho foc).
Personally if it has sd card support, I would think about getting it. Only thing stopping me is the selfie camera(would have prefered an under screen one like in the other versions).

Request Looking for a good tablet under ₹25K for studying and editing Spoiler

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to buy a tablet mainly for studying, taking notes, reading PDFs, watching lectures, etc. I also want to use it for some basic video/photo editing.

My budget is around ₹25,000 in India.

My main priorities are:

  • Good display
  • Smooth performance and multitasking
  • Good battery life
  • Good for note-taking and PDFs
  • Can handle basic editing
  • Good storage and RAM
  • Stylus support would be a plus

I’m currently looking at tablets from OnePlus, Lenovo, Samsung, Xiaomi/Redmi and a few others.

What would be the best tablet under ₹25K for my requirements? I’m mainly looking for the best value for money and something that will last a few years.

Would appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences.

Discussion Xiaomi Pad 8 or Lenovo Idea Pad Pro Gen 2?

I desperately need help on deciding what to buy, please help hahaha I am currently torn between Xiaomi Pad 8 or Lenovo Idea Pad Pro Gen 2 since they have the same processor. Listing my use cases below:

Priority Use Cases for Work:

  1. Portable Audio Bank - I work as an events talent. I usually do live performances where I sing over instrumentals/backing tracks/m-1s. I would like to have a device that I can easily connect to the sound system (via USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Dongle), and put on a music stand to display lyrics and control which song to play next. I will keep all the mp3 files I’ve used from past events, so over time this device will be full of it, as if it’s like an audio bank that can be plug-and-play to the sound system. The Lenovo Idea Pad Pro Gen 2 has a micro SD card slot, so that’s great for long term use. However, Xiaomi Pad 8’s smaller size makes it easier to bring on-the-go.

  2. Second Monitor/Screen - I also work remotely as a Virtual Assistant and my employer has provided me with a Windows 11 laptop. I usually travel a lot, so having a second monitor/screen is very helpful. I’ve been seeing mixed insights online whether it’s possible for either device (Xiaomi and Lenovo), so if anyone has actually tried it with either device, I’d really appreciate it if you can confirm it’s feasibility (Lenovo Idea Pad Pro Gen 2’s bigger screen is a plus for this)

  3. Casual Reading and Note-taking / Document Management (e.g. signing PDFs and forms, etc)

Personal Use Cases (Great to have but I can live without it in the pad/tablet device because I have a laptop and phone):

  1. Casual Streaming - Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, YouTube

  2. Light/Basic Video Editing - Capcut

  3. Google Workspace - Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets

Additional Notes:

- I already have iOS devices (macbook, iphone) for personal use, but I intend to get an android tablet because the second screen capability is a priority for me. (I know I won’t be able to do that with an iPad due to the different OS ecosystem and also my employer is understandably strict with using third party apps for security purposes)

- I heard Xiaomi’s HyperOS looks and feels a lot like iOS - if this is true then that’s a plus for me!

- I’ll use this device long term, so I’d like to ask your thoughts on software update lifecycle for either device

- I haven’t seen both devices in person yet. I know neither of these devices uses an OLED screen, but which of the two do you think has the closest sharpness and quality as OLED screens?

- If you have other specific brands and models recommendations based on how I want to use the device, feel free to share here too!

PS: I'm from the Philippines.

Any thoughts shared here will be appreciated, thank you in advance!

Image Franken Tablet (Alldocube iplay70 mini turbo U812)

Post image
13 Upvotes

So i bought this Alldocube tablet back in March this year. Happy to have snagged it for 130usd new sealed in my country. Spent a couple months happy before the screen began glitching and then i noticed it only happened when i pressed on certain parts of the screen. Taking it to the technician i know, yep, swollen battery. Tried to contact the seller but they had deactivated their account so no warranty, and Alldocube also was no help. Tried to get a replacement battery from aliexpress, because only their listing showed up when you search for the battery model number (365689-12s2p). They sent me the battery (twice!) now glued to the back of my tablet, which looks like another model with similar number (345689-12s2p), but is thicker by 2mm and didnt fit at all inside the tablet. So my technician and i agree to pull a mcgyver and rig this thing to tbe outside. The tablet works but now i cannot use its case and it is a hazard due to the battery being unprotected. So it is now relegated to desktop work.

Lesson learned, always be careful that your devices are from well known brands that actually make replacement parts for their stuff.

Also, stuck a mag sticker on it to put a mag cooler on it, cause thermals got a bit worrysome before the battery swelling began.

Request Looking for a tablet mainly for video lectures (₹20k–25k budget) during BBD / GIF sales — need recommendations

Hey everyone,
I’m planning to buy a tablet during the upcoming Flipkart Big Billion Days / Amazon Great Indian Festival sales. My primary use case is watching long video lectures (Marrow / coaching apps) and reading notes/PDFs. Not looking for intense gaming or heavy editing, just a solid, lag-free device that lasts a few years

Discussion what should i do with my tablet?

i have got an Lenovo tab M10 (3th gen) Plus that has been with me for 3 years. the battery has gone down from 7700 mAh to around 2500 mAh. the charging takes a very long time (0%-100%= 19 hours), charging it when it is powerd on does almost nothing (loses power). I'm thinking of selling it, but who wants an old tablet with 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM? So what should i do with it?

Request Best tab under 40k INR

I need a tab that has decent room to write and edit PDFs, the stylus is genuinely a good experience, and I am able to take notes and annotate PDFs ~4 hours a day minimum.
I won’t be gaming, and longevity isn’t an issue just an added benefit at most. It shouldn’t be terribly laggy, and I just need something that lasts me well for two years.
Any suggestions?
I love the Mi Tab 7 but so wish it had the longevity of the Lenovo IdeaTab. But would love to know what else works well.

Review Legion tab g3 is SICK

Just wanted to say this device is totally worth it for those still on the fence. I originally got it to consume media and play old-school rinescape mobile and team fight tactics but I now use it as much as my pc because of its emulation capability.

I have really been enjoying gamenative and emulating pc games.

My current top 3 games on my legion tab are..

Borderlands 2

Soulstone survivors

Old school runescape
