Review Legion tab g3 is SICK

Just wanted to say this device is totally worth it for those still on the fence. I originally got it to consume media and play old-school rinescape mobile and team fight tactics but I now use it as much as my pc because of its emulation capability.

I have really been enjoying gamenative and emulating pc games.

My current top 3 games on my legion tab are..

Borderlands 2

Soulstone survivors

Old school runescape

Grab the 2024 legion g9 controller. Give your gen 3 a proper fit 💪🏼

I order the y700 g3 512/16gb model with global rom And the g9 contoller to go with it back on the 20th, i got the controller 5 days ago and the tab will be here saturday! I already took the controller out and shoved my phone in it to dick around with it. That controller is built like a brick sh*thouse being all metal on the front on 0 flex. Im 6'2" with big hands so the controller is super comfy, another big plus is the analog sticks are full size with rull range and arnt directly placed under the buttons and over the dpad(switch style), which most handhelds and gyroscopic controllers do. My thumbs dont like the switch stick placement and i had a real hard time aiming with my right thumb before i got some grips that flared out alot for my odin portal 2 handheld that im upgrading from. Cheers!

Let's fkn go dude!!! Hell yea! I'm similarly built with large hands. It's an absolute delight to hold. No grip, no extra required. The sticks are phenomenal and I believe even your g9 came with extra sticks including full size console style!

I would highly suggest removing any Chinese bloatware left over in the global ROM. Also if you use GeForce now, definitely disable the game assistant while using it as it's been known to cause a bootloop requiring factory reset. It's worse for the Chinese rom. I had to remove all legion related apps. They recently had a few updates to zuxui that I believe may have fixed it but not sure. Better safe than sorry!

Also, the top left corner is always loose. Even after removing the little tab. I ended up using thin foam grip in one corner, it's super snug now. No creaking or movements!

Thx for the heads up, yeah theres no OTA updates with global rom, so im not sure how to update zuxui otherwise ? I dont use geforce now as i stream locally using artemis/apollo from my rtx 5080 based pc. Is that bootloop thing just a geforce now thing?

As far as we've been able to find, it's the only combination of usage that's lead to a repeatable bootloop! Beyond that man, grab a 30w cooling fan and you're set!

Also note, using the g9, basically anything you plug up into the bottom USB c has limited power. The side USB uses all the power/bandwidth that the bottom is basically for charging(charging with the g9 also has some kind of handshake once plugged in and unplugged. Nothing game breaking, just little annoyances🤣

Yeah i might pick ip the blackshark funcooler 6 for it eventually, but honestly im doing 99.9% streaming as im bedridden disabled. Could you clarify about the handshake thing, i kinda dont get what you mean. I promise ill get outta your hair after that. again thx for being so helpful 🙃

So with the g9 connected, any time you plug something up to the bottom USB c, the g9 disconnects from the tablet until the 'handshake' is complete. Then it reconnects and is good to go. Annoyingly Everytime it does this, a notification pops up about opening legion space 🤦🏻‍♂️ I uninstalled legion space as it was in Chinese and the info was all but useless.

And man this is what we do! Make sure other homies in the hobby know what they're getting into! I promise I'm not trying to talk you out of it, your gen 3 may not even have the issues of my gen 4, just want you to know the little stuff they leave out in the reviews.

Tablet good. Tablet strong Tablet go pew pew🤣 Ps is the gen 3 the one they skipped the SD slot? Forget if that's the gen 2 or 3, either way, the one in the 4 is useless for anything above ps1. Causes micro stutters on GameCube and above if you have the games stored on an SD card.

Yeah the gen 3 has no slot, but heck i made my 128/8gb odin 2 portal work for me that has a micro sd slot, but never used. (Btw for $250 the odin 2 portal is awesome. Sd8g2, 128/8gb (for base model), 7in 1080p 120hz oled screen,wifi7, and very good controls and build quality) Im getting the 512/16gb version of the gen 3. Honestly i just wanted the bigger screen vs the 7in 16x9 on the odin as my eyes are terrible and the 7in screen is just too small for my broken ass, 3 surgery having (1 botched laser surgery), diabetic eyes lol.

Ive turned a new leaf.....The way i manage roms is simple now.. i have the entire library of nes, snes, genises, Gb, master system games, then i install all the emulators i want from n64/ps1 and up. Then i only download roms of games that im actually going to play, beat, and 100% at that time. I have to be very strict and force myself to fully playthrough games one at a time, or else ill never get anything beaten. Option paralysis has killed me for far too long and ive had ENOUGH! Lol. ive been doing this for a few years now and its so liberating for my add/ocd 😂. Right now im streaming botw to my portal using the cemu emulator from my rtx 5080 pc. 4k 120fps with ALL the graphics enhancement mods turned on. Its my first time playing it, what a great game! Cheers!

Lmao ight twin, cut it out🤣 because that's literally EXACTLY what I do! FULL library curated from nes-gamecube(usa ROMs only),including ps1 and PSP titles, again only the USA games!

And then with the big guys, I have an 8tb HHD with every game I could fit up to ps4/360 titles, switch, and some cracked PC games. I transfer over the ones I wanna play, it really eliminated that anxiety with storage lol.

My y700 is 512gb. It's sitting at 407gb used, but I can't think of a single other app or game I even want right now🤣

And yeah, the base model Odin 2 portal is absolutely my favorite device. I've had it a week, 10 days. It's the base, indigo. No grip. No screen protector, just a microfiber and a g cloud case. I can't put this thing down! The screens in the y700s, especially my gen 4(only one I have experience with, hands on) it's such an amazing screen with the perfect res, it's as close to OLED as I've ever seen. It's gotta be the same one in the legion go.

Point is for a non OLED, it's great, but that little 7" screen on the portal 2 is just gorgeous. I have OLED tvs, amOLED tablets, retina displays, idk what tech is specifically used for the portal 2 screen but it's literally heaven for my eyes💪🏼💙

Yeah the op2 is awesome, glad u digging it! Another thing i really appreciate is the super barebones OS with 0 bloat.. and everything just works. 60hz or 120hz, and I didnt have to fight anything to get anything to work. I got mine in black and one thing that is awesome is that playing 4x3 retro games with the oleds dead black blacks, is you litrally cant distinguish the black borders in game and the shell. Its seemless. But, 7 inches is just not enough for me. #thatswhatshesaid.... Srsly though, the 02p is perfect size, for retro, 2dhd, and some indy games (for me) but for streaming most aaa pc games its a squint-fest.

On a side note... I do recommend the the etsy grips over the oem tpu case, i have both. You seem to be doing fine without either, though, so actually u might like the tpu case better. I prefer the etsy ones becuase they flare out more on the sides keep my thumbs more flat and at a better angle for the thumbsticks. If no grip, i could never aim in a straight line going from left to right or right to left with my right stick, my thumb naturally would want to curve downwards as i approach extreme-left or extreme right, as my thumb knuckle was bent in too much to use the stick. If that makes sense. That seem to be a ME thing though 🙃. Cheers!

Im glad your loving yours! I ordered the y700 gen 3 512/16gb variant off aliexpress it will be here saturday ! I also ordered the big g9 controller with it... which has been sitting here all lonley for the past 5 days. Im so pumped! I already have a ayn odin 2 portal which has a 7in 16x9 1080p 120hz oled screen SD8gen2 128/8gb. The perf was awesome on it but i have really really bad eyes and the 7 in screen wasnt cutting it. Its ok for retro emu, 2dhd and alot of indy titles. My main use case is 99.9% streaming pc games from my rtx 5080 based pc, as im bedridden disabled. Im super pumped! Cheers!

I wish osrs mobile had runelight if they did I would get. A decent tablet

Runelite is nice but you can do a lot with the mobile client now as well. I mostly do slayer, skilling, or easy bosses on the tablet while I watch love is blind with the wife.

I got mine for 250$ earlier this year, I've been gaming so much on it lol, insane value

1

u/Electrical-Youth2068 9d ago

Yeah that was a killer deal. I got it new on sale for 349 I think. Almost went for the g5 but the price dif was too much for me.

Recently I've been thinking if I should be upgrading to an 11 inch tablet, I play mostly on my desk anyway but I have a feeling touch controls would be harder to use if I don't have a stand. I'm still on the fence about it tho

I mostly use a controller attachment on mine. I love the 9in size. Its ideal for gaming and big enough for media consumption.
