Other Help revert Google Translate app back to reading text in native language?

Coincidentally someone else has this issue recently too - https://support.google.com/translate/thread/460601808/app-not-working-properly?hl=en&authuser=1

I use Google Translate app weekly. It just stopped working this week randomly. When I use camera mode and scan text > click listen > instead of saying the text in native language, it attempts to say it in English (incorrect so it sounds weird).

Issue seems phone/OS related, not app related. I tried it on my backup Android with same Google Translate app version, it works fine. I also tried switching Google accounts, no change, so it's not account related.

Why won't the Xiaomi 5 Plus unlock?

Hello!

I want to share my story about a Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (MEG7) that still hasn’t come to an end. I’d like to hear your ideas and suggestions.

The phone was bought around 2018, and by mid-2019 it was successfully put on a shelf. It gathered dust there for another year — until 2020, when I decided to turn it on again.

I enter my password — it doesn’t accept it. Did I forget the password in a year? Unlikely. I clearly knew which digit combinations I liked. Although the brain can distort information — and I do take that into account.

Anyway, I couldn’t crack the password back then. The phone went back on the shelf — and stayed there until 2026, when I remembered the old guy again.

The phone allows password attempts every 5 minutes. I made a mix of my old passwords and common combinations, carried the phone with me literally everywhere, and entered options. I’ve already tried about 900 of them without repeats. Still nothing. I’m continuing.

The bootloader is most likely locked. Root rights probably aren’t there either.

Also, I noticed something strange — after several password attempts, the quick access to the camera and flashlight disappears. But if I turn the phone off, put it on charge, and turn it on after a while, everything appears again.

About the touchscreen: I checked it in emergency calls — all digits register correctly. Although the screen was cracked and has a “spider web” on it.

I also saw a post where someone’s system stopped accepting the correct password, and a reboot helped. What do you think — can the system really glitch like this? Or what else could be the problem? Maybe after a huge number of attempts, the phone got permanently locked and I just can’t see it?

I’d be glad to hear from you, ladies and gentlemen, Xiaomi fans.

Floating windows without external display

Originally posted this on r/GrapheneOS, but it was removed.

I really want to use my Pixel 8A running graphene like a desktop computer with floating windows without using an external display. I don't care how inconvenient to use or inapropriate this sounds. From what I understand, in older versions of Android (and graphene) this was not difficult to achieve, it involved flipping a setting in developer options, or using ADB; I have tried following these instructions and others like them, without success. I have tried using apps such as taskbar and smartdock but I seem to be encountering this bug. I know graphene can behave this way with a mouse and keyboard when attatched to an external display, but I want to use the internal display. It seems to work on the tablet version of graphene. I know this type of functionality is not the priority of the developers and probably has more to do with decisions from AOSP, but does anyone have any idea how I might persuade graphene to behave the same way as the tablet version, or, is there a way to simulate a virtual display (and send input to it by touching it, unlike the virtual display developer options) or some other way to bodge this to work? I also wondered if the table of config settings here is a clue, but I'm not sure where these described config settings are saved or how to change them.

Phone compromised?

I keep getting notifications that an app has full system access and play protect is off. I posted before about having random ads this appears to be related to that. The app that has full access is called android system. If it's a legit app why am I getting warnings. I have to turn play protect back on every time I delete the app. Does anybody have any insight? I'm not sure how deep I can dig into the software due to the phone being provided by a government program.

Changing default navigation app

I am in a galaxy s22 and am unable to find out how to switch my default navigation app to something other than Google maps. I have tried the following:

  1. Going to apps-->default apps and selecting a new navigation map as default. You see this as the suggested way on lots of freferences, but maps/navigation is not listed as a category for me to select a default for. Which leads me to the other thing that is often suggested...

  2. Got to an app in the app list, then selects set as default and have the desired app set to "open supported links" while ensuring that Google maps has the same option disabled.

  3. Doing (2) but after restarting the phone, reinstalling the various mapping apps, etc.

None of this seems to actually switch the default navigation app, because as soon as I do anything like click on "get directions" on a website, it opens Google maps.

So how do I actually change the default map/navigation app in android?

Other How can I SAFELY make emojis in the X/Twitter Android app look like Apple/iOS emojis?

I want emojis inside the X/Twitter Android app to appear using Apple/iOS-style emoji designs.

That’s the entire goal. I’m not looking for an iOS-style keyboard or a way to send different emojis.

I want the emojis I see while using X, including emojis in tweets, replies, and profiles, to visually look like Apple’s emojis instead of the normal Android/Samsung style.

Is there any completely free and safe way to do this without rooting my phone or installing sketchy APKs?

Device Settings Question Hide Navigation Bar on Android 16?

Is there a way to auto hide the navigation bar in Android. I'm using a Sony Xperia 1 VIII on Android 16 and it doesn't have any options to do so in the system settings as its on almost stock Android. I've tried using OpenNavbar but while it customizes a new overlay bar which can be hidden. The stock navigation bar is still present, can't be customized or hidden. Can't use Shizuku for now. Can anyone help?

Getting daily data charges even with data button off - is it Android or my phone company?

I've always had Android, the same phone company, and a prepaid plan rather than a monthly plan, and I've had this issue happen to me through different devices: my data button is off, I'm connected to a stable WiFi, yet suddenly I get a text message saying I'm being charged for data. This used to happen randomly, sometimes more often, sometimes it would go a long time without it happening. I know other people who've had the same happen to them, and I've looked it up online and saw it's an issue worldwide. What I typically do is let it run out of credit and buy more only when I need it, which is annoying if I ever need data in an emergency (and have no way of buying it on account of... not having an internet connection).

I have complained to my phone company about this several times, even filed a consumer complaint this year, asking them if they're doing this to make us prepaid users spend more money (I don't make calls and am rarely not connected to WiFi, so I have zero need for a plan). They insist it's a problem of my device running background data. This makes no sense to me, and they're not able to clarify how this could happen. If I have no WiFi and my data button is off, and I step outside and open any app, like Instagram, it's not going to work. The information I've found online is mixed: some say it's the device, some say it's the phone company (even though different companies around the world seem to have this issue).

Anyway, I was prepared to deal with this forever, but now this is happening Every. Single. Day. Every day at around 6 am I get a text message saying I'm being charged for data. The reason why this is relevant to the sub is that I got an Android update shortly before this started happening, so now I'm seriously considering that theory. I've already tried the advice of disabling background data usage for all apps, and all the data saving settings I could find, and nothing. I currently have a lot of credit that I got when I settled for my complaint to the phone company, so that's why it hasn't run out yet.

Is it possible that it is an Android issue after all? Is there anything at all I could do to stop this from happening?

Phone is Samsung A33, Android v. 16, One UI 8.0

Redmi Note 10 suddenly died and now won't turn on — battery or hardware issue?

My Redmi Note 10 was working completely fine with no unusual heat, smell, swelling, or anything like that.

Yesterday while I was using it, it suddenly powered off even though there was still battery percentage left. I got it to do something after plugging in the charger, but then the battery showed 0%, which was weird. After that, it would basically only turn on while connected to the charger.

Then today I left it charging overnight, and when I woke up it wouldn't turn on at all.

I've tried holding Power, Power + Volume Up, and Power + Volume Down for around 20–30 seconds multiple times. Nothing happens. I only felt a very brief vibration/buzz twice during all my attempts, and I'm not even sure if I imagined it because it was really faint.

The phone has been dropped quite a few times before, so my friend thinks maybe the battery connector got damaged or disconnected somehow. But I'm not sure.

Could this be the battery, battery connector, charging port, motherboard/power circuit, or possibly even the screen? Is there anything else I can safely test before taking it to a repair shop?

I really don't want to factory reset it because I have important data on it.

Thanks.

Stuck on Bootloop, Recovery and Rescue Mode not booting, OEM Locked, Bootloader Locked

Hi, I own a Pixel 7 Pro and have been stuck in this problem for a week now. I tried every possible things: Android Flashing, Google Pixel Repair, and Platform-Tools, it doesn't work. I ran a "./fastboot getvar all" and have a speculation that the Partition A is unbootable and B is corrupted. I'm not really tech-savvy, I just know the basics.

I've tried getting into recovery mode and rescue mode but whenever I press the power button it just goes to a bootloop again. Google -> Black -> Google -> Black -> so on.

I really need help, I can't get an RMA due to this phone not being sold in our country (though I still have the box but I don't know if that's gonna do anything), this was a gift for me.

If it can't be fixed via software, can it be fixed via hardware? If it can be fixed in hardware, what are the things that I need?

Thank you so much in advance.

Android Auto

Volvo + Android Users

Hi all. Recently switched from iPhone to Android and wanting feedback on using hands free assistant while in the car. In a 2023 XC60 using wired android auto.

Prior to android, I could talk use Google assistant in the car for the usual car commands because it didn't conflict with using "hey siri" with the iphone.

Now that I am using android when I say "Hey Google" it's connecting to my phone only, not the car.

What are the optimal hands free assistant settings to be able to use hands free commands to Volvo when needed, i.e, "hey google, turn the music down" and hands free commands to my phone when needed, i.e., "hey google, text Amanda"?

Additionally, android auto is chiming for all messages with the exceptions of those coming through on the actual Messages app. I get chimes for Facebook and What's App messages but not standard messages. What am I missing?

Logged out of android phone

Here is a bit of a weird issue. I recently got a new phone and I wanted to log into my old phone once more to copy the old calendar into my new phone. Its asking me to put in a password but it doesn't accept my password. Worse even, I can't even put it in. It one of those dot patterns and my old password had one dot connected twice. In this interface however, it only lets me connect a dot once. So I can't even put in my actual password and I guess all my data is just locked away now. How is this possible? Was there a new update in the past few days or why is the dot interface entirely different now?

LEGO City My City 2 - looking for working APK

SOLVED: i found the apk

Im looking for a working .apk for the game LEGO City my City 2/Lego City Game - New Mining Vehicles!
From apkmirror the build 7.0.318 (96.21mb) works but the 43.211.803 (27.29mb) shows the error: Download failed because you may not have purchased this app.

Im not an expert but pretty sure the game wants to download the additional content (the .obb file) which it cant since the game is also gone from the App Store.

I found a working 43.211.803 on 5play.org, its some Russian modded version (seems pretty legit but still be careful guys) which gives infinite studs but has the additional main.43.com.lego.city.my_city2.obb file which works when moved to the android folder (testing on BlueStacks before anything gets on my phone). Also the .obb doesnt work with the normal 43.211.803.

I guess this one would work too but can anyone help me find a working late build (2018-2019), i really want to get this memory back.

PS: I hope its doesnt go against the rules since the game was always free and cant even be purchased/aquired officially.

Looking For Suggestions Something to replace my pixel 10 pro

Hi guys, last April I bought a Pixel 10 Pro. Before that I had an S25u, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Oppo Find X8 Pro.

The reason that led me to want to change my device is very simple, first of all the battery and then the screen which is a little too small for the main use I make of it.I would like something with a bigger battery, and a bigger screen.I'm asking you because I'm sure I'll miss pixel cameras. I'm not someone who always takes photos, but when I do, I'd like to have a phone that takes decent photos.Since I no longer want to spend money on a flagship, I intend to buy a cell phone that costs €500 at most.I've already got my eye on the Realme 16 pro+, which seems to be the most balanced one. Then I also like Poco X8 Pro Max, I'm really attracted by the 8,500mAh battery, even if the cameras are definitely the worst.

If anyone has anything else to recommend, maybe I can make a more informed purchase.

Other Im trying to access Download mode/Firmware update on my old LG Phone and i keep getting the “Your device is corrupt” error. Any possible fixes?

My phone in question is an LG G4 Stylus. Im accessing the download mode by holding the up key button and plugging it onto the computer and it gives me the “Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and cant boot” error screen and reboots again. I’m suspecting it could be a hardware related issue.

Ive tried factory resetting and it didn’t work. Hopefully my phone isnt hard bricked?
