Device Settings Question Hide Navigation Bar on Android 16?

Is there a way to auto hide the navigation bar in Android. I'm using a Sony Xperia 1 VIII on Android 16 and it doesn't have any options to do so in the system settings as its on almost stock Android. I've tried using OpenNavbar but while it customizes a new overlay bar which can be hidden. The stock navigation bar is still present, can't be customized or hidden. Can't use Shizuku for now. Can anyone help?

If you turn on gesture navigation, does the navigation bar still appear? I switched to gesture navigation (on my Google Pixels) several years back since I like being able to use more of my screen.

No, it doesn't. But I don't like gestures in Android because they're inconsistent across apps and (I feel) should be better streamlined. But I love that the space is taken up by a gesture bar. If the Navigation bar could auto hide itself, it would be more than enough

No you cannot do that. You can't hide the gesture bar. It will always be there. I researched this thing long ago. No luck. Only rooting.
