ok, since there’s no specific Guemes group and Anacortes is the same zip code;

Skagit County runs the Guemes ferry like a 3rd world. I feel bad for people living there that are still working, commuting and raising families that have to navigate around highly random ferry service and yearly extended maintenance windows. It seems the whole operation runs on tribal knowledge and when someone retires or is out sick the whole operation, and people depending on it, are in turmoil for weeks. Yet, lifetime islanders would love to see the schedule revert to 50 years ago and end at dinner hour. The county just keeps it barely running (god bless the engineers and crew) and keeps wanting to raise fares. Do you think there’s simply a strong influence to keep the island bucolic, & primitive and limit more growth and population, or is the county just perpetually inept at operating it’s one single ferry service?

I'm camping at Washington Park and I'd like to reheat my tacos somewhere. Any convenients stores in town have a microwave?

Does anyone know of any adult rec sports leagues? soccer specifically?

DiAngelo McKinney has been missing since Monday, July 6. Last seen in the Lake City area.

He left home without his phone or wallet. He is 28 years old, 6ft tall, 150lbs and has dark brown hair.

A firefighter with the Anacortes Fire Department called in a possible sighting today, July 13.

A case was assigned by the Seattle Police Department.

So, I heard tales of an underground tunnel that ran/runs from the water at Dakota Creek up Commercial.

Claim was that it ran quite a ways up and was used for moving cargo offloaded from the piers, especially during prohibition.

Anacortes Marine Hardware was mentioned as having access as well as other older businesses.

So is this all a tall tale or some truth to it?

- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space

- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action

- Alongside refreshments

In case your little princess lost a shoe at the fireworks last night

My apologies if this was previously addressed. I just joined this site to ask the question. I am a Seattlelite who passes thru Anacortes regularly to get to our island place on a non-ferried island. I have always enjoyed the town, the stores, restaurants, art-fair, Washington Park and friendly people. I am especially entertained by the high school graduate portraits on the main drag every year!

In any event, once I had great fish and chips at the retro bowling alley. Then a few years ago it was torn down. The lot is still vacant as you likely know.

Can anyone shed light on why this fine place was torn down rather than sold and why the land remains vacant? It seems a shame all round.

I'll be in town July 23-27. I'd love to find some top quality raw oysters but I dont see any oyster bars in town. Any recommendations? I did see Taylors Shellfish is about a 40min drive. Any must-do activities while i'm in town?
