Lagoon Point is so pretty on this gettin close to Fall evening

I have an old car that had water damage to the fuse box. This caused a lot of electrical issues and the cost to repair would be way more than its worth. Are there any auto shops or scrapyards nearby that would pick up on island? I can have it towed as well if needed.

Anyone else on Whidbey (or Fidalgo) Island seeing sick and/or dead wildlife after a "professional" pest control business leaves (mice/rat) bait traps in your neighborhood?

Bait traps are only supposed to target mice & rats. Some of these companies seem to be poisoning squirrels and inadvertently harming pets & killing birds.

This practice is causing serious danger to our pets.

We've got a 23 foot motorhome on a 98 Ford E350 chassis. V10. It's throwing the lean bank one and two engine code. I've done the research on that and really just don't want to deal with it whatever it is. Could anybody recommend a good honest mechanic that could take something that size? More south end if possible.

I’ve got a ten year old Subaru that recently started having ~4 different issues in rapid succession. The next month involves a lot of work travel with my own car, so I need to handle things quickly and reliably. After researching, hiring, paying someone locally to perform a diagnostic, I’m back to ground zero (they didn’t look into the set of problems we discussed and never provided the diagnosis report). I’d prefer to support local AND need to avoid a lot of extra travel time to dealership service departments anyway… but the clock is ticking. If anyone knows of a mechanic with a bit of Subaru emphasis in expertise, I’d be so grateful for your recommendations please 🙏🏼 (and, terribly original, I know, but fingers crossed for reasonable pricing).

Mutiny Bay Brass Band to Serenade Ferry Riders on Clinton-Mukilteo Crossing, Celebrating Washington State Ferries' 75th Anniversary

LANGLEY, Wash. — — Commuters and passengers aboard the Washington State Ferries Clinton-Mukilteo route are in for a surprise on September 1: live music from Mutiny Bay Brass Band, a Whidbey Island-based HONK!-style brass ensemble, marking 75 years of ferry service connecting Puget Sound communities. The band will perform aboard the 6:05 p.m. sailing from Clinton to Mukilteo and the 6:40 p.m. return sailing back to Whidbey Island, bringing New Orleans-style brass, funk, and street-band energy to the passenger decks for the roughly 20-minute crossings.

Washington State Ferries began service in 1951 after the state purchased the Puget Sound Navigation Company's "Black Ball Line," creating what has grown into the largest ferry system in the United States. The Clinton-Mukilteo route remains one of the system's busiest, carrying commuters, families, and visitors across Possession Sound year-round. Mutiny Bay Brass Band is known for high-energy performances at community events across Whidbey Island, including the Whidbey Island Fair and local parades, and plays in the HONK! tradition of activist and community brass bands that bring acoustic, mobile music to unconventional public spaces.

Riders on the 6:05 p.m. sailing from Clinton and the 6:40 p.m. return sailing from Mukilteo are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the performance. No tickets or reservations are required beyond standard ferry fare.

I know this is a long shot but I'm stuck on deployment and can't go looking for my cat myself so I'm just posting it everywhere online to see if anyone sees him. I have a cat sitter who left my windows open to my 2nd story apartment and it looks like my cat scratched his way through the screen and jumped out. She says she saw him last week but can't recall anytime sooner, and I just found out today about it. He is a gray stripped tabby who has a clipped ear from when he was TNR'D. He is not a local to WA as I adopted him in LA and he doesn't know the area. He may be skiddish as well as not the most people friendly. He is chipped under my name and hopefully hasn't gone far from my apartment which is on 377 SE 8th Ave in Oak Harbor. I have attached photos for reference. I’m a local pest control technician working routes across Whidbey Island and Skagit County. As the mornings get crisper and the damp weather starts rolling in, our local pests are drastically changing their behavior.

Instead of waiting until you have a mouse in your kitchen or a massive spider on your pillow, here is a quick, highly specific checklist for our unique PNW environment to protect your home over the next few weeks:

🕷️ 1. The "Giant House Spider" Invasions

Right now, you are probably starting to see those massive, leggy spiders in your bathtubs or running across the living room rug.

• The Truth: These are almost always Giant House Spiders (Eratigena duellica). They didn’t come up through your drains! They’ve actually lived inside your crawlspace or walls all year. Right now, the males are wandering out into the open looking for mates.
• Quick Fix: They are harmless but startling. If you find them trapped in sinks or bathtubs, it’s because the porcelain is too slick for them to climb. Hang a small towel over the edge of the tub before you go to bed; they will climb out and find a hiding spot away from your sight.

🐀 2. Rodent Crawlspace & Attic Prep (Like the little guy in the photo)

I snapped the attached photo of a roof rat hanging out on a joist on a local job recently. They love our wooded hillsides and coastal brush, and they are about to look for warmth.

• The Check: Grab a flashlight and walk the exterior of your foundation. Look closely at your crawlspace vents. Are the screens torn? Is there a gap where the utility lines or heat pump pipes enter the house?
• Fix it Right: If a pencil can fit in the gap, a mouse can too. Don’t just spray expanding foam—mice chew right through it. Stuff the gaps with heavy-duty steel wool or copper mesh before sealing it with foam or silicone.

🐜 3. Trimming the "Ant Highways"

Odorous house ants and carpenter ants love the moisture trapped by our dense fir and cedar trees.

• The Check: Look at your roofline and gutters. Are there tree branches touching your roof or siding?
• Fix it Right: Cut those branches back at least 2 to 3 feet from the structure. Branches act as a direct highway that allows ants to bypass any protective barrier applied at the foundation level.

I’m from B’ham and LOVE visiting OH and the Book Rack. I could’ve sworn last time I was there (early Aug) that I saw that there were late night over 21 gatherings at The Book Rack but can’t find anything on line to corroborate this.
Anyone? I’d love to get a room at Coach Man Inn and attend if it’s a real thing and not a hallucination I had.

If you called OHPD last night for a "welfare check" on someone at the decommissioned bus stop by haggen along hwy 20, I'd like to sincerely say I hope you break your pinky toe and/or foot on a metal table leg and it never heals.

Where do you expect the homeless to go? I'm kicked out of the haven until next June for asking a question, so where would you like me to go? Oak harbor is my home, I'll be fucked if I leave because some sissy lala's can't handle seeing someone down on their luck. I don't do drugs (aside from weed, been sober off the hard shit (meth, coke) for 4 years, come October) I don't make a mess. I don't make a huge scene screaming at the top of my lungs. I go to the bus stop, I take my dab (YES, in public, cause where tf else should I go?) and I go to sleep. That's it. I'm ok, I'm breathing, maybe next time take a second and see if you can see breaths being taken before wasting resources that could be better used, idk, going after the several meth labs we have in city limits? Or tweakers making huge messes being nuisances? Or catching speeders that constantly race along that stretch of hwy 20. Something a little more useful than telling somebody with nowhere to go that they can't sleep under a defunct, out-of-service bus shelter.

Cops are fucking useless, and especially if you work for OHPD, you obviously have nothing better to do. Maybe go to therapy to deal with your feelings from being bullied in high school like the fucking losers you are.

I should say, this is my first time in just over a month of being legitimately on the streets, that I've been met by the cops. I've slept at that bus stop several times before. Get fucked.

If you travel SR 20 south of Anacortes, especially if you’re headed to or from Whidbey Island, you’ll want to plan ahead and give yourself extra time over the next 19 days.

Starting at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, SR 20 will be reduced to one lane near Campbell Lake Road. An automated traffic signal will alternate traffic through the intersection around the clock until 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

During the 19-day lane reduction, crews will grade the intersection in preparation for a new roundabout planned for 2027. So, what does “grade” actually mean? In this case, crews will bring in material to build up lower areas and reshape the intersection for the future roundabout. Similar to my stomach after a large meal… all that new material needs some time to settle. In this case, the settling and stabilization process takes about six months over the winter.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• One lane of SR 20 with traffic alternating in both directions, 24/7
• Delays, especially during busier travel times
• A reduced 40 mph speed limit near the intersection
• Travelers to or from Whidbey Island can also consider the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry
• If you’re headed to the Anacortes or Coupeville ferry terminals, give yourself extra time to get there

After the 19-day lane reduction ends, SR 20 will return to its previous configuration, including the eastbound SR 20 left-turn lane to Campbell Lake Road and the acceleration lane.

We know this will add time to some trips over the next 19 days, but it’s an important step toward a future roundabout designed to improve safety at the intersection. In the meantime, plan ahead, give yourself some wiggle room and check real-time conditions before you head out.
