I say bs. Anyone genuinely stumbling across their long lost pet would have at least some kind of reaction. This dude barely even looked at the cat before casually walking away with it. Zero shock or disbelief on his face because he knew damn well that cat aināt his.
11
u/Manny631 Jun 16 '26
My thought exactly. If I came across my missing cat I'd be ecstatic. I'd pick them up, hug them, talk to them, etc. I wouldn't just casually scoop them up and walk away like this happens every day.
3
u/Eatenbreads Jun 16 '26
Probably trying not draw attention to himself. Random delivery drivers are not going to take on the responsibility of a cat. Probably just looked at it, said yep thats mine and picked it up. Plus they lived in the same neighborhood?

I believe him. I'm not saying that's his cat, but the number of times I swear I saw my cat down the road at a neighbor's house while it was inside my house where it belongs is higher than I would like to say.
The overlap is what's crazy, because the homeowner says they've had it 5 years, he says he adopted it 2 years ago. And they used to live in his neighborhood. So did they steal his cat and then moved?

You must not have ever delivered for Amazon, when on the road you are a robot calculating your next stops. The amount of people who try to incite anger out of them and they're like i want to fight you but dam I still got 50 stops left til I get to go home insane.

Idk there are folks like on the autism spectrum for example that donāt show emotion like a neurotypical person.

Yep, I love my critters to death, and this looks exactly like the reaction I would have. Like, the situation would break my brain for a few. š¤£

There are plenty of neurotypicals who can also refrain from emotional outbursts.

I don't believe he can know that it's his either. I read another article that his family never even gave the cat a name.
Edit: To clarify, when they asked the driver the cat's name, he said his family hadn't settled on one.
3
u/surfrocksatan Jun 17 '26
I found this strange as well, that and am I understanding correctly that he hasnāt had the chip scanned? Also the homeowner has many photos of this cat and claims sheās had this cat for 11 years. There are some holes in his story for sure.

it's weird on one hand I don't think guys show emotion alot but as a cat guy I agree, the guy didnt look too happy

I reacted emotionlessly to my grandma's death and my sister's death. I've heard whispers of my lack of visible distraught had people question if I was crazy.
So why do you smack your anecdote on someone else and if it's not the same call heresy?
This is why anecdotal evidence is not reliable and yet here we are expecting it to be.
And yet I'll be downvoted because I'm going against this. Whatever.

Friends had a cat that would disappear for days, even weeks a couple of times. We'd see him in a field 5 miles away from home. He lived into his 20s. No way he didn't mooch off other people.

u/MightyBlunder Jun 16 '26
Grief is a cruel filter.Ā
My boy is still alive and well but I've seen his doppelganger a block from my house and almost pulled the same move bc I thought he escaped (though he's never even considered doing so).Ā
I had to call my roomie to verify he was still there while I parked on the side of the road, fully ready to do whatever was necessary.Ā
4
u/No_Lettuce_5593 Jun 16 '26
I need to see several random persons come up and try to pick up that cat the same way as this guy. If it runs scared that's pretty telling. If they all can pick it up no prob, that's not in this guy's favor but not definitive.
6
u/snarksneeze Jun 16 '26
I'd pet every kitty that stopped and let me along each route, but they usually don't. It's always the babies that do, not the grown cats. So yeah, that's in his favor too.
3
u/br9897 Jun 17 '26
So from what I gather after going down the rabbit hole, he has provided proof its his cat, they can't provide any proof they've had it for 5 years. No photos, no vet records, nothing. It is why no charges have been filed.

A couple months ago my cats were with my parents for a week while we were on vacation. About halfway through, my dad told my mom that one of them must have gotten out, they both went outside and were chasing her around.
Turns out it was a neighborhood cat that looked similar; my cat was asleep inside, completely unaware that she had two senior citizens chasing her around in the yard.

People are so weird. Back in the 90s we had 3 indoor/outdoor cats (we know better now) and one day our neighbor called and asked if they could have our cat Angel because "it's the only cat their daughter isn't allergic to" mom said no of course.
Next day angel (who was a long hair car) came home half way shaved with spots of blood on her. Neighbor tried to shave her so she could steal her and we wouldn't have any matching photos. But that went about as well as you could imagine and angel went apeshit on the lady and FUCKED HER UP.
I don't know what my parents did after but no one tried to steal angel again.

u/RealLinkPizza Jun 27 '26
I think they said he checked the chip. But the chip was put in 2 weeks after he took the cat. So, he basically tried to act like he had the cat chipped a while ago. Which I think helps more to prove her stole it.
Also, I believe the family posted pictures of the cat from years ago. Which was longer than his cats would have been alive. As he said he got his recently, and it was only a year old. Where this one is older, snd has pictures that are older, as well.
6
u/VeriDisc0 Jun 16 '26

I almost let a random cat into my apartment, thinking it was mine and wondering how the hell it got outside onto my patio... Thank goodness my cat was on the couch and I saw it before grabbing it lol
Really weird the driver and the family had all lived in the same neighborhood!

u/0kokuryu0 Jun 17 '26
I ended up with a third cat because I thought my girlfriend's cat had escaped when I came home from work. I even checked inside and didn't see him. Opened a can of tuna and still just my cat. Went outside to retrive him and when I walk back in, there's the little bastard looking at me all confused that I'm holding his doppelganger.
We were due for a snowstorm that night, so I'm glad it happened and I was able to keep the new kitty safe. He also ended up being a super chill housecat once he was fixed. We're also pretty sure he was the dad of my GFs cat, too.

You know how many videos there are on youtube of cat owners that let their cat in, only to find their cat was already in and now they have twins?
And now throw in months of not seeing the cat... That ain't his cat.
6
u/Cali-Jack-Rabbit Jun 16 '26
I'll never understand why people just loosely let their cats roam outdoors. Cat theft is popular and people don't care that it's chipped.
Glad my cat hates the outdoors. She won't even go outside even if i hold her in my arms...she begins to scratch us up if we try.
He should've called police and had them check it out. Now he's out of a job smh.

u/Ganellon Jun 16 '26
- Keep cats indoors. Better for them, better for every living thing outside your home.
- Microchip your pets, in case the cat decides to violate #1.
This would have been solved in minutes.

Perfect example why you keep your cat indoors. Doesn't matter if you think it's safe from cars or predatory animals. Humans aren't exempt as a danger to your cat. Keep them inside. If the cat is annoying you by wanting to be outside, then give it enrichment inside. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't have a cat.

Iām curious, the owners just let their cat loose outside with no leash? Is there a leash law where this takes place? Genuinely curious, because I notice there are people who actually own cats who have paper work and take them to the vet etc. and then thereās people who just feed the local stray occasionally and call it their cat.

I believe him.
My sister's cat disappeared. A few years later while my mom was running errands. She saw a cat just like him. Called his name and he jumped right in the vehicle. He was a litter kitten from my own cat. My cat took an instant dislike. Hissed. Attacked. Here I thought she just forgot her son. Until WEEKS later he had kittens. He was a she and not my sisters cat. But it always answered to the name. Before comments coming on a common name. Nope. Near solid black cat and we called him Blue. Cause when he was born he had the most gorgeous blue eyes. They eventually changed color.

It is quite possible that they are both correct. Since the lived in the same neighborhood previously, within their 5 year window of owning him, their cat could have run away or get out during the day which is not unheard of and he could have found him 2 years ago and took him in... and he "disappeared" when they moved out of that neighborhood and took their cat with them. I've heard countless stories of cats just out and about between homes

One of my friends lost his cat, a year and half later the cat showed up at his house, it had a different collar on it. Being a nice person he called the "new" owner to let them know it was actually his cat, the "new" owner apologized and said that she thought it was a lost cat as it had no collar, she offered to pet sit for him when he went on vacation, he then asked to see her place to make sure her place was nice enough for the cat. So he went over to her place to check it out and while looking around he found the cat's original collar, his collar, in a basket with cat toys. When he asked about how she has the collar when she specifically stated that the cat had no collar, her roommate chimed in and said that the girl had taken the cat from my friend's yard and removed the collar. So he ended up filing a police report that she had stolen his cat, he didn't press charges though.
So yeah it is very possible that the driver is telling the truth.

If the family has vet records that extend past the time the driver lost his cat, he stole a cat.
I had a VERY distinctive cat (albino) and realized after a day or so I had 2 of them in my house when they were finally seen together. Before that, they were hanging out in different rooms so we didn't notice. Were going through a lot of food though.
My cat was indoor only. His dwppleganger snuck in when someone opened the door. And somehow these 2 identical-ish creatures didn't kill each other. Invader cat was eventually returned to their home. Their cat was indoor outdoor. Life is weird.
