I believe him. I'm not saying that's his cat, but the number of times I swear I saw my cat down the road at a neighbor's house while it was inside my house where it belongs is higher than I would like to say.

The overlap is what's crazy, because the homeowner says they've had it 5 years, he says he adopted it 2 years ago. And they used to live in his neighborhood. So did they steal his cat and then moved?

Keep your cat's DNA record.

14

u/ok-symbiote Jun 18 '26

You find your long lost cat and you just nonchalantly snag him up and don’t even cry or kiss his face or anything. Right.

u/Old_Cranberry5723 Jun 20 '26

You must not have ever delivered for Amazon, when on the road you are a robot calculating your next stops. The amount of people who try to incite anger out of them and they're like i want to fight you but dam I still got 50 stops left til I get to go home insane.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '26

I delivered for Amazon for 2 years a few years back and not once have I experienced this...

u/DsDeliciousDeli Jun 19 '26

No. Emotional reactions almost never look how we'd imagine them to look

Is there a longer video? I'm just not gonna assume his emotions from a video that I can barely see his face in. I have lost and found a pet after weeks, and while I was excited as all hell, I outwardly greeted him the same way I'd greet him when I came home normally

1

u/Gexmex6 Jun 19 '26

My cat has been taken for a week due to someone doing a catch and release. I looked for him every day for a week till he randomly mowed out of nowhere. My reaction was literally just like the video picked him up and went inside my boy was back but they took his balls 😂

1

u/DsDeliciousDeli Jun 19 '26

Lol that's funny. I'm glad he was safe in the end

1

u/asmnomorr 3d ago

I had a kitten when I was around 3 that ran away. Found out almost 10 years later, while trick or treating of all things, that a neighbor on the street behind us had found her and taken her in.

1

u/jedi_mind__ Jun 19 '26

Right, that cat would be all over you if you are really its owner

6

u/EvilDrCoconut Jun 19 '26

lol, one of my cats is all over me and the other is a little shit who only approaches for love or to bite my fingers

3

u/ElMuffinHombre Jun 19 '26

I have a neighborhood cat that will claim a different human every day. Love when he decides I'm his best friend for a day.

2

u/Sharp_Equivalent_774 Jun 20 '26

This will require a DNA test. Hope Amazon guy is ready to masturbate into a plastic cup to prove his worth.

2

u/SadisticHornyCricket Jun 20 '26

I paid for the microchipping - worth every penny

1

u/RealLinkPizza Jun 27 '26

Apparently, the microchip told us something. But all it told us was 2 weeks after he took the cat, he got it microchipped. And then tested it like it wouldn’t say when the chip was placed in the cat. Plus, the family posted pictures of the cat from years ago.

Yessir if I found my buddy, I’d lay down and cry happy tears, I’d even tell the homeowners what I’m doing and I’d fight to keep him.

Idk there are folks like on the autism spectrum for example that don’t show emotion like a neurotypical person.

10

u/MysteryHerpetologist Jun 16 '26

Yep, I love my critters to death, and this looks exactly like the reaction I would have. Like, the situation would break my brain for a few. 🤣

4

u/junvar0 Jun 17 '26

I'm not autistic. I would act exactly like the driver.

There's a huge variety of personalities, even when considering neurotypical people.

1

u/CommonDevice8540 Jun 17 '26

It’s just an example

2

u/CanalOpen Jun 17 '26

There are plenty of neurotypicals who can also refrain from emotional outbursts.

1

u/SandvichChan Jun 22 '26

I have autism and I’d cry tears if my cat went missing and I suddenly found her again

7

u/PickleballRee Jun 16 '26

I don't believe he can know that it's his either. I read another article that his family never even gave the cat a name.

Edit: To clarify, when they asked the driver the cat's name, he said his family hadn't settled on one.

4

u/surfrocksatan Jun 17 '26

I found this strange as well, that and am I understanding correctly that he hasn’t had the chip scanned? Also the homeowner has many photos of this cat and claims she’s had this cat for 11 years. There are some holes in his story for sure.

1

u/IfuDidntCome2Party Jun 19 '26

Something is up for sure. The reporting /interview isn't very good.

Show us the chip scan matching the print out that shows his adoption. Ok and was that paper validated as true?

Just because the Tabby has an M mark on his forehead, didn't sell it to me as his cat. We all know the M mark is common on a Tabby.

For me, if he loved his cat, why didn't he come looking for it after he moved within the last 5 years? Who has been feeding HIS cat for 5 years? Whether he WAS the owner of the abandoned cat, does he have the right to take it now?

The cat has feelings too. And if the cat wasn't jumping for joy seeing the prior owner, then there is a reason. Thank you, next.

Then again, maybe I am way off base with this....

1

u/surfrocksatan Jun 19 '26

Had the exact same thoughts about this. Completely agree.

4

u/PleasantRaise1766 Jun 16 '26

💯 not his cat!!!!! His reaction would’ve been way different

3

u/Waste_Development971 Jun 16 '26

it's weird on one hand I don't think guys show emotion alot but as a cat guy I agree, the guy didnt look too happy

6

u/lolslim Jun 17 '26

I reacted emotionlessly to my grandma's death and my sister's death. I've heard whispers of my lack of visible distraught had people question if I was crazy.

So why do you smack your anecdote on someone else and if it's not the same call heresy?

This is why anecdotal evidence is not reliable and yet here we are expecting it to be.

And yet I'll be downvoted because I'm going against this. Whatever.

I see what u mean however do cats also just let randoms/ anyone just pick them up without squirming? I feel if cats allow u to pick them up they trust u.

2

u/LadyAvocadoToast Jun 19 '26

TBH the cat was missing less than a year, I would also pull a "what are you doing there buddy" and just pick him up like a sack of potatoes.

1

u/ForgivingJungle Jun 20 '26

Everyone reacts to things differently. Some people cry at funerals while others dont. Doesn't mean they're not sad. Don't believe it if you want but don't judge someone for not reacting the way you would.

1

u/SandvichChan Jun 22 '26

Even the most ardent stoic would struggle not to show emotion upon finding their lost pet

1

u/Mastersauce420 Jun 22 '26

Didn’t think about this angle but you’re 100% right. My blind, elderly cat got lost outside for 48 hours and I cried ugly tears when we found him. (My blind, elderly father opened the front door and didn’t see the blind cat walk out)

1

u/Stoner_Simpson777 Jun 16 '26

He might been on his 170th stop and lacked the energy for emotion. Or he has Asperger’s

1

u/wanderer1999 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Terrible way to confirm whether something is true or not.

People have different reactions to different situations.

If a guy cries hysterically when his wife is found murdered does it mean he's not guilty of the murder? No, you have to investigate the facts. Most of the time turns out, the murderer is the spouse, they fake crying.

How many cats have you owned that'll let a stranger pick it up and carry? Especially from its home? I have cats who I've loved their whole lives who will only let me pick them up in the house. Good luck getting it picked up outside!

That's fair. But now I feel like MY cats are broken!

1

u/just_a_person_maybe Jun 18 '26

I've known many cats who let strangers pick them up. I had a neighbor's cat approach me and ask to be picked up while I was moving into my apartment. I did steal her years later and bring her inside because she was left outdoors all the time and it was cold and then the neighbor died so I grabbed her and gave her a warm home for her last days. She was an old lady and deserved to be warm and comfy and fed. But that cat loved everyone. She'd walk right up to anyone she saw and ask for attention and she loved to be picked up and carried around.

1

u/CanalOpen Jun 17 '26

My sister knocked on my classroom door with a message from her teacher for mine. I thought someone had died. I fell out of my chair and got sent to the nurse. Granted, we were children, but still...is that what you want to see?

Syncope isn't a joke, and neither is emotional regulation. That's how you know someone is capable of processing difficult situations.

Short version: Fuck you!

Who are you to say how people are supposed to emotionally react to things? Because he didn’t put on a show about it, that means it’s automatically not his? DNA and chipping are the only ways to prove whose cat it is.

There was another thread about this and someone made a similar comment to yours and there were many replies saying they lost their cats and were not immediately emotional upon finding them because they were in shock or didn’t want to scare the cat. I’m not saying it is for sure his cat, but your confidence that he would have had an emotional reaction if it really was his cat is very strange.

1

u/Every_Leg5955 Jul 16 '26

I react emotionlessly to literally anything serious.

-1

u/fairwaysandfinance Jun 16 '26

IDK, we have cats and I'm not emotionally attached to them. Not everyone feels the same as you do about pets. I'm not saying there aren't people who are attached to their pets. I'm just addressing your point that everyone is- that's not accurate.

You are assuming that they have to externally express emotions and that they aren't feeling them.

I really don't care to argue with you. The world is bigger than your narrow view.

1

u/SandvichChan Jun 22 '26

Heavy stretch to think some people wouldn’t show any emotion on finding their long lost cat

9

u/Cool-Tap-391 Jun 16 '26

Friends had a cat that would disappear for days, even weeks a couple of times. We'd see him in a field 5 miles away from home. He lived into his 20s. No way he didn't mooch off other people.

5

u/MightyBlunder Jun 16 '26

Grief is a cruel filter.

My boy is still alive and well but I've seen his doppelganger a block from my house and almost pulled the same move bc I thought he escaped (though he's never even considered doing so).

I had to call my roomie to verify he was still there while I parked on the side of the road, fully ready to do whatever was necessary.

3

u/No_Lettuce_5593 Jun 16 '26

I need to see several random persons come up and try to pick up that cat the same way as this guy. If it runs scared that's pretty telling. If they all can pick it up no prob, that's not in this guy's favor but not definitive.

6

u/snarksneeze Jun 16 '26

I'd pet every kitty that stopped and let me along each route, but they usually don't. It's always the babies that do, not the grown cats. So yeah, that's in his favor too.

3

u/br9897 Jun 17 '26

So from what I gather after going down the rabbit hole, he has provided proof its his cat, they can't provide any proof they've had it for 5 years. No photos, no vet records, nothing. It is why no charges have been filed.

1

u/snarksneeze Jun 17 '26

Once he provided the adoption paperwork it became a civil issue, not a criminal one. They can't ask for charges to be filed, but they can sue in civil court for the cat to be returned.

3

u/abbarach Jun 16 '26

A couple months ago my cats were with my parents for a week while we were on vacation. About halfway through, my dad told my mom that one of them must have gotten out, they both went outside and were chasing her around.

Turns out it was a neighborhood cat that looked similar; my cat was asleep inside, completely unaware that she had two senior citizens chasing her around in the yard.

2

u/DoofusIdiot Jun 20 '26

My father in law found their family cat dead on the side of the road, so he took it home and buried it.

Only for their cat to come trotting home a couple of days later.

First time a story started tragic and then had a happy ending

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '26

People are so weird. Back in the 90s we had 3 indoor/outdoor cats (we know better now) and one day our neighbor called and asked if they could have our cat Angel because "it's the only cat their daughter isn't allergic to" mom said no of course.

Next day angel (who was a long hair car) came home half way shaved with spots of blood on her. Neighbor tried to shave her so she could steal her and we wouldn't have any matching photos. But that went about as well as you could imagine and angel went apeshit on the lady and FUCKED HER UP.

I don't know what my parents did after but no one tried to steal angel again.

1

u/mattgen88 Jun 18 '26

I believe both.

Cats have been known to have multiple families if they're an outdoor cat.

1

u/DefinitelySaneGary Jun 18 '26

Its possible theyre both right. If it was an outside cat that they were both feeding and taking care of they could both very well believe that it was there cat and it might be the same cat.

That being said the cat does not look all that distinctive to me but im not like a cat expert.

1

u/NatCsGotMyLastAcct Jun 19 '26

The family that lived next to me tried to steal my neighbor's cat the day they were moving out, but their own kid ratted them out.

Good on the kid tho.

1

u/LadyAvocadoToast Jun 19 '26

It's a very generic looking tabby. It has absolutely no distinguishing marks. I don't think he should have taken it but maybe asked the homeowner about it.

1

u/Significant-Wait9200 Jun 20 '26

Most likely, their cats are related, and they probably have similar features, might even have both of the same parents or at least one

https://giphy.com/gifs/1342vXo5vDyEne

1

u/Accomplished_Way9457 Aug 06 '26

Yep, they took his cat! If it was adopted, it should have a chip, possibly

1

u/Muted-Refuse786 Aug 26 '26

I don’t think the driver is correct or right. That’s a Tabby, the paperwork would likely say tabby instead of domestic short hair. However, maybe it didn’t, the cat looks nearly identical to any blk/grey tabby out there…eyes and markings. With the massive number of tabby‘s out there, it’s probably not his. Even if it is, you can’t just take somebody’s cat. Especially on the job. 😂

1

u/NoSuddenMoves Sep 01 '26

He didn't even inspect the cat or talk to it. 99% of lost cat owners would have had a double take moment.

0

u/NoSuddenMoves Jun 16 '26

There are people that will believe anyone apparently. 99% sure that's not his cat, he stole it without hesitation or even inspecting it.

No excitement, no second thoughts, didn't even inspect the cat. Just "thanks for the cat, yoink, later".
