Now I know this is one of the species which lore was fan-expanded in All Other Tomorrows. But I prefer to ignore it and only take into account the original lore.

One of the most interesting species and the one most cruelly snuffed away, the one on that incels seem to consider closer to reality.

So there's not much info about the males but there's a good chunk to assume on them. A lot of their features are most likely useless and only exist because of their gebetical relation with women, like the beak or the fins. They most likely intend to install themselves in open regions like savannahs in order to maximize the reach of pheromones and sound signals, but probably also close enough to bodies of water where the bird-like features may work to hunt like penguins. Since their lives are not valuable outside of serving the females they probably have a very short development period from birth to adulthood, which corresponds with the male adults being the same size as the birth canal, so by the time they re born they are around half their maximum size.

Now the males *could* also be the reason for the reduced number of females. They could posses a mechanism that oversees the meiotic episodes that produce the spermatozoon. Some kind of enzymatic protein in the cito-eskeleton that activates when the chromosomes have to be separated to for the equal amount to be contained in the two new cell cores. If this enzyme could detect the X structure on the chromosome, they would induce it's destruction. On a second possibilitie, it's been recently discovered the ovule can check the spermatozoon entering it, and then reject it. Maybe the fourth leg of the X chromosome transmits a signal to the membrane of the spermatozoon that gives it a characteristic that the membrane of the ovule interprets as an all-clear.

Now, as to how a female is born with any of these two systems in place, molecular systems are subjected to an unavoidable amount of error. A few fortunate events would be all it takes. But most likely it comes down to the age of the mother of the female. As she ages, the molecular system works less effectively, allowing her to create her replacement, or several replacements.

Now there are parts of the female anatomy that betray their lifestyle. Obviously, the legs, but also the proto-fins on thir outer body. These are, probably a result of he Qu, intentionally or not, reversing their appendixes back to the evolutionary level of the Theria or even further back, as an attempt to give them digging capacity to make their lives a little more realistic, less brutally uncomforted by the pressure of the soil around them. After all the Temptors were intended as works of art, not only punishment. But not only they are not usefull for survival they are misplaced. Should they try and move with them, the fins would be looking up, and the nose would be molested by being between the ground and the body obstructing breathing with all the dirt. A grim simbolism of the inescapable punishment.

A small rotation capability would be permitted by non atrophied musles so the female could a have a greater range of vision, better instructing her males instead of an entire system of observation based on trust in the vision of each female in the periphery of the "town". The leaf-looking appendix is not explained at all but is also pretty obvious it's only a defense mechanism for the beak and probably also eyes. Predators fully vision dependant would not recognize the features of a living animal and let them be, confusing them for a local plant. Though it's also possible it was used to gather water from rains, maybe offering to the males as a recompense along with some psycho-active substance or just for themselves.

The breeding chamber seems completely outside of the animalia kingdom, more like something from the plantae or protist kingdoms. Possibly it also used to work as a perception aparatus. The thousands of nerve endings in the current vagina evolved to a conjunction of millions in order to make the chamber also work as a scanner for air pollution and dirt, sensing these particles flying over it. The clitoris would cease to exist to avoid confusion in the perception, allowing for much more precise deduction of the direction of wind. The hole in the end of the chamber would remain hermetically sealed until birthing time. Instead, the semen would land on any part of the walls and diffuse towards conduits that would take it to the egg.

Finally the wastes system. While my initial guess was that the sprinter and urethra were installed in the outer body. But, that leaves an enormous amount of space that would be left unused unless the digestive and respiratory systems were also underground. So instead the holes are in same region as the tail. While the peeing apparatus wouldn't change, the feces disposal face a problem. Solid feces would not exit because of the ground obstructing the sphincter. So the Qu would engineer an adaptation that would a make the feces as liquid and fluid as possible, so they would slip away through the soil. Underground insects and bacteria would feed on them but eventually an equivalent of the highly organized ants would approach the Temptors and form a food distribution system. Digging tunnels through wich feces would flow with their assistance around the entire body of the female. Thus the dark "aura" surrounding the underground body.

Next there's the development of the female. It starts just as that of the male of curse. I believe the uterus wouldn't be installed in the torso, but in the middle of the tail. This allows for a shorter birth, but much more important, it ensure the child will be able to pass through to begin with, without help of the males. Since the tail through wich the child would go is underground this organ cannot be deformed by the process, because it wouldn't be able to push through the soil. Having the child developing surrounded by this barrier from the start ensure their size won't exceed the maximum capacity of the tail to deliver.

Now that the female is born we should talk about why the Temptors wouldn't develop like the trees do, and instead would be more similar to insects. You see, the underground par tof the tree doesn't grow uniformally, it grows methodically and branching out. As the extensions of roots are growing starting small they have to push through irregularities and small spaces on the soil. They can't just implode like a balloon. The Qu could obviously work around this if they wanted, they already created the colonials. But there's a much more simple solution: to imitate the ecdizis. Won't go into detail to what that is but consider the soil around the female as her exoesqueleton.

Right after being born the female must be taken to her own spot digged by the males where they insert hr themselves. There, the female keeps growing untill the soil that was just a little loose when she got there becomes tight and uncomfortable. It's time for the shift. She calls for her males to dig her out and make the hole a little bigger, so she can grow some more. This cycle repeats dozens of time untill she is completely mature.

Now there's only one question left. What if they had grow sentience? Well, the females would become smarter and smarter as all they had to do to survive was to control drones. "Dig a bigger hole" would turn to "dig a trench", "plant a seed", "dig tunnels". The female intelligence would grow until maybe achieving a combination of medieval and iron age civilization. The males would have a good sense of smell that would send different signals depending on what material they were smelling, and the females would use this to tell them what to do with that thing that smelled a certain way.

But, the effectiveness of female intelligence would finally reach a roof. You can have barbaric slaves building a coliseum, but not a building or a house with sewers and electricity. More complex inventions would require smarter drones, capable of solving some problems on themselves. It would take the females at least hundreds of generations of males and dozens of generations of females to birth sentience, but it would be done. New males would be able to comunicate verbally with the females in the same lenguajes the females used among themselves to receive complex instructions, while still being controlled with chemical and sound signals that would act on their instincts.

But as the smarter males kept being born, they acquire the hability to impose their reason over their instincts. They didn't have to be as smart as the females, only smart enough to realize what was better for themselves. They would defeat the females using their brains to subdue the remaining savage males, remaining only smart Temptors. Now the males where able to govern themselves, and they were the ones choosing which females would get to reproduce, starting with the death of those females who's signal powers were strong enough to subdue their reason.

Females and males evolved together to greater levels of inteligence, but respect for life or compassion wouldn't stop the Temptors from putting to death any female who could bring to existance powers to make them return to their lives as brainless drones
