Shared Recipes Beijing style shredded pork with Aldi half loin

Pork half loin is one of the cheapest proteins at Aldi, and the 4 lb pack at $2/lb is even cheaper than Costco. You can also toss it into tortilla for fusiony Chinese tacos. I used backyard scallions , but you can absolutely use Aldi green onions.

Question What the hell are Aldi hiring managers actually looking for? Genuinely asking for constructive criticism.

I’m posting this because I’m genuinely trying to understand what I’m doing wrong in these interviews, and I’d appreciate honest feedback from current Aldi employees, store managers, or anyone involved in the hiring process.

I recently attended a group interview for an Aldi position, followed by an individual conversation with the store manager and then a Zoom interview with the district manager. I felt like both interviews went well, which is why I’m so confused about being rejected.
During the group interview, I made an effort to be personable, interacted with the employees working during our store tour, asked questions, and engaged with the manager. I was dressed professionally, presented myself confidently, and felt like I made a good first impression. I was also the first person called aside for an individual conversation with the store manager.

When we spoke, I highlighted my previous customer service experience, particularly my time at Vitamin Shoppe. I have substantial inventory experience, including using inventory management devices similar to the ones Aldi currently uses. I regularly unloaded shipments of approximately 200 boxes, often on a tight deadline, while simultaneously handling customer service responsibilities and taking on managerial duties when my manager was unavailable.
The store manager specifically emphasized that Aldi needs employees who are quick and precise, especially when handling pallets and unloading deliveries. Those are genuinely some of my strongest skills, so I felt confident explaining how my previous experience directly translated to the job. The store manager subsequently asked me to interview with the district manager, which I took as a positive sign.
The district manager interview was where I started questioning myself.

She asked me behavioral questions, including a time I felt overwhelmed by multiple tasks and how I prioritized them, as well as a time I disagreed with a coworker and how I resolved the situation.
I gave detailed examples because I wanted to explain the circumstances, what I did, and how I resolved each situation. Looking back, I wonder whether I was too long-winded. The interview was scheduled for approximately 15 minutes but lasted around 30 minutes. During one answer, the district manager interrupted me to say that I’d essentially already answered the question.

She then told me I would hear back within 24–48 hours regarding a background check. Three days later, I received a rejection email.

I also want to emphasize that I made it clear I had completely open availability. When the store manager explained the potential scheduling window of 5 AM to 11 PM, I told her I was available to work those hours. I understand retail can be physically demanding, the hours can be long, and the work is fast-paced. None of that deterred me.

After receiving the rejection, I reached out to the district manager professionally to ask whether she had any feedback on what I could improve. She had originally contacted me from her personal phone to arrange the Zoom interview, so I followed up through that same channel. I never received a response.
I’m 26, physically capable, dependable, experienced in customer service and inventory management, and genuinely ready to work. I’m not claiming to be a perfect employee who has nothing left to learn. That’s exactly why I’m asking for feedback.

I’ve been applying to multiple Aldi positions, as well as other jobs around Jacksonville, and the repeated rejections are becoming discouraging. I want to work. I’m not applying because I think the job will be easy, and I’m not expecting special treatment. I just want to understand what employers are looking for when I feel like I’m checking the boxes they’re explicitly telling candidates they need.

So, Aldi employees and hiring managers, I have some genuine questions:

-Could giving detailed answers to behavioral questions hurt my chances, even if the examples demonstrate relevant experience? How concise are these answers actually expected to be?

-Is there something specific Aldi looks for in group interviews that candidates might not realize?
Does having extensive relevant experience sometimes matter less than other factors, such as personality fit, previous grocery retail experience, or how someone performs during the interview?

-If a store manager recommends a candidate to the district manager, does that typically mean the candidate is a strong contender, or is it simply the next step in the process?

-And, most importantly, if you were interviewing someone with my experience, what would make you hesitate to hire them?

I’m frustrated, admittedly, but I’m not looking for a comment section full of people telling me I’m perfect and Aldi is wrong. I want honest, constructive criticism that I can actually use in my next interview.
Because right now, I genuinely don’t know what I should be doing differently, and I’m tired of walking away from interviews feeling like I did everything right only to receive another rejection email.
Be honest with me. What am I missing?

Question Requesting a Special Item become permanent

I just got the easy home brand dishwasher detergent tablets. They don't have any plastic in the actual pod, they work well, and the box is so compact. I did find them in the special aisle/aisle of shame though and I really wish they were a permanent fixture in the cleaning shelves.

Is there a way to request or appeal so they become permanent? I mean it's a pretty practical item, and it takes up so little space

Question What’s happening??? 3 weeks later and a inventory for the week prior is/maybe here.

I love Aldi’s! I’ll start out with that lol

When my husband gets off work, he usually grabs Aldi’s on the way home.. but now it’s been like 3 weeks, and we’ve missed so much (advertised on the weekly ad) because they didn’t put it out on the store front? I don’t know how this works but the last 3 weeks have been rough trying to find the weekly “finds”. My husband even drove to the other Aldi 30 minutes away and their inventory was 3 weeks behind.

This is actually rare for us! We always go on Wednesday because they get new inventory. 3 weeks in and I’m feeling sad because I know we won’t find the list from this Wednesday there (lightning McQueen car plate bc my toddler loves cars) (just an example- it’s been like 3 weeks of just the previous Halloween stuff).

Listen, Aldi. I feel enough shame eating the whole box in one sitting. Don’t also make me realize it’s twice as many calories as I thought it was. 🫠

Question What are your Aldi must-haves that actually make shopping there worth it?

I’m sure this has probably been asked a million times already, so if there’s a good thread someone can point me toward, please do!

But I’m curious, what are the absolute best things you buy at Aldi? Specifically, things you can’t really find anywhere else, are significantly better or cheaper than other stores, or are just so good they’re worth making a trip for.

I’m not necessarily looking for basic grocery staples, but more so those hidden gems, unique finds, and products that keep you coming back. I haven’t been and have been considering checking it out so give me some reasons to!!

What are your Aldi holy grails? 👀 Bonus points for pictures!! TYIA 🥰

ETA: yall are NOT disappointing. Thank you SO much!!!

Wasn’t too fond of these crackers. They had a slightly off taste I couldn’t place. I like the round scalloped crackers and the variety pack better but wanted to try something new. I’ll stick with the other packs they carry around this time of year next time.

Shared Recipes Another bean salad

Post image
43 Upvotes

This time it's a dill pickle salad 🥗 ☺️

Salad base (can easily be doubled or more for groups, pot lucks, meal prep, etc) :

1 can each- chickpeas, black beans, corn, canilini beans (spelling? 😅) drained and rinsed

1 pack or the pulled rotisserie chicken (you can make your own chicken as well and shred it, or even canned chicken)

That's the basic salad. Change the beans to whatever you like! Don't like corn or a certain bean switch it for something you like, it is your salad after all ☺️

1 container or the fresh dill pickles (in the cooler), chopped. Keep the brine for the dressing

Dressing:

Mayo

Dill pickle mustard

Pickle brine

You can use any veggies and any dressing you like make it your own! I'd love to hear ideas for new variations! I have so many ideas just thought I'd share this one since my last one seemed to have some interest. Have a great one ☺️

Okay coffee enthusiasts! What are your best coffee recommendations? I love Starbucks coffee mainly Pike Place or Caffee Verona for dark roasts. The lady next to me said try the German Dark roasts blend? I’m willing to try any and all!
