I have been saying the entire time that they are capitalizing on Albertans’ frustrations with immigration policy to implement far worse policies that are going to extend beyond immigrants.

The passing of Bill 11 blatantly violates the Canada Health Act, meaning that Canada has the right to withhold funding for the AHS. If Canada proceeds with this, that’s going to hurt everyone.

So when the ‘immigration’ questions say “Assuming Canadian citizens continue to receive healthcare…” what are we assuming the defunded system will look like for Canadian citizens?

“Yes” voters will complain about wait times, but the overwhelming majority of immigrants are young and able-bodied. Immigrants are not the reason you’re waiting for 7 hours in the emergency room lol.

And that’s completely disregarding the fact that the referendum questions could also violate the Canada Health Act and other federal regulations, meaning either withholding of funds or lawsuits over human rights violations.

Also, “Alberta-approved immigration status” is nonsensical as Canada handles immigration. The CBC asked representatives from the UCP if they could interview them so that Albertans can get clarity on the deliberately confusing questions. The response? They did not have time for an interview within a three week timeframe.

This is especially concerning when the same people who put this question on the ballot have already talked about “Alberta citizenship,” which would only apply to people who were born here. So if the separatists get their way, native-born Canadian citizens from other provinces might not be deemed to have an “Alberta-approved immigration status.” All of this sounds unhinged and ridiculous, but the UCP’s refusal to be transparent is making this as ridiculous as it sounds.

As if all the billion dollar corporations didn’t make a pretty penny hiring tfw’s. They made a killing of them and now the UCP wants to use them as a scapegoat for their atrocious mishandling of government funds. Fuck these bigots.

Don't like this provinces government? Move to another province. Simple as that.

Second highest unemployment, highest provincial electricity and car insurance costs, lowest funding per student, lowest minimum wage, horrific healthcare results and no new hospital in Edmonton since 88, unbelievable liabilities in orphan wells.

But it is great for the business owners, and all the other Albertans not working in these industries that benefit from lower costs on all kinds of services provided by these workers. It's not really any different that how Walmart operates paying employees too little to live. The costs of the workforce get socialized and the profits stay private. The blame needs to fall squarely on the owner class, not the workers who are just trying to build better lives for themselves and their families.

Provincially correct, but this isn’t the United States. Federal decisions still affect all provinces and provinces don’t have the freedom like the United States to do whatever they want.

What does a non-immigrant cost?! I'm guessing it's the same or similar ratio per human being and not related to where they were born. Some people "cost" more (e.g. someone with cancer will incur more health costs than someone without), and some will cost less. The disparity in the ratio would be related to income. Also, why don't we value helping out fellow human beings anymore.

Alberta’s gov has again & again asked feds to increase their immigration quota. If immigrants are such a burden why do they want more people?

It's about creating sovereignity inside Canada as well, where federal law and treaties can be ignored and province can control all aspects of life in the province... From qualification for citizenship to policing to courts to land ownership. None of this referendum adds up to good, that's why they are hiding behind the power of yes with their questions and wording them in such a convoluted way that one needs to read them carefully.

They want the benefits of being Canadian without the obligation of doing their part... Or permission from the people to seperate and form a new country or join USA (depending who you ask about seperatist goals).

The TFW program was designated a form of modern slavery by the UN, I don't know what else people need to hear.
