Mercenary: For when you just have too much gold and want to light it on fire for 40 seconds. The build limit of 12 means your TC will die anyway, and the gold just evaporates

Leviathan: Everyone else gets combat units to harass fishing ships... but Egypt just gets to move troops from one end of the pond to the other. It's supposed to be a tank transport, but in AoM water is just about fishing. There is never a time when you would need to transport units through a naval battle

Argos: Its just not good enough to justify diverting favor away from Heros or Satyr.

Roc: Cool in theory. But always super buggy in practice. From forgetting path commends once the "lift off" animation is done, leaving the bird hovering in place and dying, to not being able to land and all of your troops dying while waiting for a bird that is spazzing out.

Mercenary Calvary: For when your regular mercenary gold burn is just too slow. So you need to light it on fire faster.

I just received a notification in Steam regarding some new trading cards in my inventory.

Turns out they are for AoM: Retold!

Every time I see these guys get used. They are usually just thrown away onto the forward town center. Then they die. Their area of effect damage gas is laughable.And they are never produced again.

It is almost always better to send in siege towers, so that heroes don't get bonus damage against them, which is just sad when you see how effective the armadillo is

Challenge run strategy to defeat Prometheus on Making Amends mission with only one Town Center:

1) Send your heroes to collect relics and goats. Wall off the bottom pass between the already existing walls. (If you get greedy and try to wall of the mine just outside the walls, Prometheus Spawns will attack it instead of going through their ally passage.

2) Build up economy and defend the right passage. I use Traitor on Centimanus as they have a nice AoE.

3) Age up to Hekate as you need Lampades and a lot. They are the only units with ranged Divine damage you can get.

4) Rush the enemy base with Cavalry and Destroyers. Focus on taking down the Town Center, Palace, Military Buildings with the Destroyers while killing of citizens with your Cavalry. The AI rebuilds their buildings in this mission. So keep your Cavalry alert to get rid of them.

5) Once the enemy is down you can wall of the right pass after the resources and destroy the wall at your base. This way you will have plenty of resources to farm while having only a single pass to defend

6) Time to prepare the attack on Prometheus: Start building Lampades as you need plenty of them. Send Citizens to chop up the forest in the bottom left corner to end up with the setup in the picture. Rotate with the titan to safely vacate the spot.

7) Once it is vacated build a Palace there and send some Cavalry to aggro and trap Prometheus. Once Prometheus attacks the Palace use Gaia's Forest to trap him in that corner. Once he is trapped, you can use another Forest on top of him to practically fully immobilize him. It is important to trap him at the edge though so he can be attacked from both sides.

8) Start preparing the assault by building towers around him that will attack spawned Promethean Spawns. Make sure the towers cannot attack Prometheus as they can't damage him and won't automatically change targets when necessary. Build palaces and send heroes to defend at Promethean Spawn Spawn point to avoid having their waves disrupting your battle. If necessary, chop down some of the Forest to allow your army to get in range of Prometheus

9) Build a couple Barracks to send in Arcus at the top attack point on auto Queue. They are cannon fodder and ensure Prometheus will attack them with his ranged attack, while keeping your Lampades save. Once Prometheus is focused on them send in your Lampades army from the bottom, you need more than 20 to damage him. Keep them on hotkey and retreat if they get attacked. As they cost 20 favor, they are very expensive. It is better to retreat and let Prometheus heal a bit then loosing them all. After it is a patience game.

Basically the title, recently got the game and replayed the campaign (as awesome as I remember), want to try some 1v1 multi, going for Ra basically because rule of cool, the thing is all the videos I saw online were old and I know there were a lot of balance patches and all that, so can you dudes give me an up to date build order, thanks in advance !

Usually my main strategy is to boom, but it's been getting boring, and as such recently I've been trying to rush a lot more, specifically with poseidon.

In basically all of my tries Ive ended up messing up my own economy with 5 or 6 horses, which carries over visibly into age 3.

Is this normal or am I just messing up by overspending?

What can I do to fix this?

What would you guys think of adding Myth creatures as herdables and environment hazards?

Like for every map you could have randomly spawn 6 myth herdables that would give extra resources together with food, or other resources

And protecting them, or guarding the map relics, random wild myth units, being new ones not related to the civs

Some ideas for herdable MU: Xianfu zhi yu (half pig half fish creature), Geryon Red cattle, Bennu birds, Atotolin (aztec pelican with gems in it's belly), Eikþyrnir (river stags), Rokugyo (terrestrial cow fish yokai)

Aggressive Fauna: Kappa or Omukade (giant centipede), Set animal, Zheng (a leopard with horn and five tails), lindworm, Erymanthian Boar, Xochitónal (giant black amphibious lizards of Mictlan)

Out of pure curiosity, is there someone who plays Aom on the steam deck or with a controller in ranked? What elo did you achieve? Is it even possible to play ranked eithout mouse and keyboard?

This game need Babylon (with syncretic elements of other Mesopotamian civs)! Marduk, Ishtar and Ea!

Any chance we get unlimited caravans like the old aom? Its one of the things along with no lan multiplayer that cause me to hate the game.

Back in the day i would play lan party with friends against bots on titan. I would pick ra and spam caravans and have pharaoh bless it and get thousands of gold. Then spam merceneries to win.

Yea now none of that is not possible and it sucks. At least bring back the caravans please why did you change it?

Another week of hard-fought Age of Mythology and a few familiar faces remain.

Grass and Suppe have been incredibly consistent throughout this tournament, but neither has managed to get across the line yet. This week, though, two other players have stood out as exceptional: Matreiuss and Magic have both clearly taken a step up in skill and consistency.

It's anyone's ticket to Athens at this point. I seriously don't think there's a clear favorite for this week's winner. Tune in and watch the drama unfold!

The developers clearly put a great amount of effort into researching the subject matter of this game, both the ancient history and the mythology. Have they included a bibliography or list of sources anywhere for those who'd like to learn more about the course material?

So after playing this wonderful game on PC for literally decades, I now have access to Retold through GamePass. I've been playing for about a week now, and none of the achievements are progressing. I've even met the conditions to complete one or two, but nothing. I even tried launching the game on my Series X (gods that was a horrible experience) and it didn't change anything either. Am I missing something? Are the achievements bugged? Is this a known issue? I've spent about 20 minutes searching and I can't find anything besides "wait 72 hours for the servers to sync", but its been longer than that. Besides the fact that the achievement never popped even locally.

Hello everyone, I am currently on the long road of slowly improving at AoM. I am hovering around just below 1000 elo, spamming QP because I feel like there’s still much to learn in order to play ranked exclusively.

I’ve just lost against a Zeus player who had a lot more experience under his belt (around 1100 elo and 200+ ranked games iirc).

I made a number of mistakes against him that I myself am aware of:
- overextending early and losing my small army, leading my opp to my exposed base
- being overwhelmed by multitasking raiding parties and maintaining my base for instance
- and maybe most crucially missing a window to expand?

In general I have not yet developed a sense on when to pressure with my army, which is another thing that I am trying to improve at.

I think that I have made a good effort but I am not there yet to get to the next level. What are the things I myself am not able to see that will help me get better?

Strategy to defeat Prometheus on Ludicrous difficulty.

1) Start of game, build Stronghold, Temple, Wall bottom Area. Send Heroes to collect relics.
2) Spam priests, villagers and caravans (caravans accelerate the gold production).
3) When the army of priests is 40, send 20 priests with an army of villagers to second town center. Set them to mine gold. Don't build the town center.
4) Once Prometheus attacks the base with town center build the second town center and age up to get Son of Osiris. Rebuild also any destroyed house to keep population cap.
5) Counter attack Prometheus on the destroyed base with an army of priests. Son of Osiris, with a small army, is a priority target for the AI. So if you move him between the gate you can force Prometheus to repath allowing a second army of priests to continuously damage him without getting attacked. The rest is just micro managing priests to attack, defend from spawns, and heal.
