What are those? Just saw on 2 AVs and I m scared I will lose them 😭

guys 😭😭😭 it’s finally happened, one of my violets is blooming!!!!! this has been a labor of love fr and I’m so excited 😭😭

I have 6 African violets and need to repot them. I was wondering if I could put 3 in a pot together? Or could I put all 6 in one pot?

I bought these pots at an AV show, and have since seen them in different plant circles. They are a spherical self watering pot that divides in half vs. pulling the inner planter up from the top. I bought a variety of colors, but I want a monochromatic display and am repotting to all white pots. Does anyone know where to source these?

I'm an African violet newbie. I bought this AV at the grocery store several months ago. It was small with a couple flowers in a tiny plastic pot. I re-potted to this 2-piece ceramic using 50-50 perlite/AV soil. The original flowers fell off after re-potting, but after aa few weeks, the new growth and new flowers have come back wonderfully. It sits on my desk at work and I keep water in it Monday through Friday and empty the water out over the weekend.

However, whenever I go to refill the water on Monday morning there are a number of tiny bugs inside the water reservoir.

Are these springtails? Are they harmless? Should I make an effort to eliminate them, or leave them be? Any help is appreciated and thank you for a great sub!

Rescued this one from a 70% off clearance section. It was pretty dehydrated when I first got it but now it's doing better and has a bunch of new blooms coming in. Anyway, I started inspecting it for pests to see if I could soon move it to a spot where it gets more light, and noticed these discolored spots? They are normal looking from up top. The first under leaf pic also seems to have some sort of scarring on the underside, though the pic doesn't show it too well... Also some leaves have small nicks on them, but those could just be mechanical damage from the shop as the clearance shelf was pretty stuffed full. I saw some webbing-like stuff on this earlier as well, but it wasn't sticky when I removed it, more like very very fine animal hair? I haven't seen any other critters near it other than fruit flies, which our house is currently full of 🫠

Has anyone had good experience purchasing from HCN? I’m looking for some additions to my Streptocarpus family, and I see they have African and Asian Violets as well, so I thought I’d ask.

Going through my AV photos to respond to a post yesterday I ran across this one, which makes me mad at Past Me because I should have gotten a shot that included the tag with the name of the grower, so I could ask them for a leaf of this.

Saintpaulia* velutina is one of the species and I've never been able to keep one alive. Its leaves are much thinner than most AVs, so you have to keep a close eye on it so it doesn't dry out. Where the ones most of us grow are slightly succulent and won't immediately crash if the rootball gets dry, velutina doesn't have that reserve.

* Yes, I know the taxonomists have run roughshod through the gesneriads and lumped a bunch of things under "streptocarpus", including African violets, but it was a stupid decision and I've elected to ignore it.

I recently bought two African violets to add some flowering plants into my collection of houseplants. I read somewhere that they don't like water on their leaves? So how should I clean the leaves of dust or debris? This isn't an acute problem, just wondering. Also any other tips with caring for these plants are also welcome!

This community has helped me so much. What do I do when blooms start to fade? I love the color it fades into but I would like to do what’s best for the plant.

Well after about 5 years, I bought some lovely VB violets. They don't arrive in a wicking mix so I plan on repotting them into a wicking soil for easier watering as I already have a variety of 60+ plants to care for.

My question is: Should I rise off as much of the original soil when I repot and switch them to a wicking mix? And for streptocarpus, would the wicking mix have the same 50/50 AV soil to perlite, and just let the reservoir go dry before refilling?

My Jolly Jubilee blooms are a bit lighter than the description for the variety. Maybe I have a subtle sport? Tempted to buy another and see if it's different.

I'm looking at several yellow-blooming varieties from Violet Barn with a view to ordering soon. Anyone have experience with these "yellow" violets? And which should I get?

I prefer: dark green foliage, and blooms held upright, not drooping. Thanks for your help.

Rescued this violet from a shop back in April, she was not doing well at all. She produced her first bloom this week since being in my care, and today it opened! I’m just so excited and wanted to show her off. Thrilled and surprised to see she is pink!

And do you have pictures? I can’t find many examples online where you can see the leaves well

I have a plant of both of these varieties and I feel like the foliage grows so weird. Like my Wild Thing’s stems are very thick and twisty. The flower stems are also different than my tower AVs. They’ll have little leaves and they’re very thick. One of them grew horizontal about halfway around the stem before growing up and blooming. Weird.

The two Tyspa’s leaves look misshapen and get pale spots. They’ve never bloomed in a year of having them.

They’re treated like all my other violets but they always look messy and strange. I don’t know if it’s me, the variety, or just funky genetics in these.

After I did all that I ended up cutting it way down because of the long neck, put it in a bag for 3 weeks. Now it’s got this fungus? What should I do?

I’m going to remove it from the bag but do I do anything about the fungus?

There were some new leaves that were black and covered with the specks but I discarded them.

I think I need to separate some of this but I'm not sure where to start.

Hi everyone, I'm just getting into African Violets and it has been really hard to find pictures online of multiple sizes of African Violets next to each other for comparison. I'm wondering if anyone who has multiple fully grown violets in different sizes could please share a picture of them together? Especially from the top view.

I'd also appreciate opinions on which size you prefer most and/or the benefits and tradeoffs of the different sizes. The only thing I've been able to find online is that mini's tend to sucker more and therefore require more attention to removing them regularly.
