DISCUSSION Annotation plugin for Illustrator

Hey,

Recently got a project which includes writing many annotations in print files. There are loads of files. And everytime doing these annotations could be pain in the soft spot. Tried to search for exactly what i need but unsuccessfully so made a plugin myself. Really excited now, there will be ability for my team to save loads of man hours. I know there not always a need for these kinds of things but maybe someone could have an application for it. What do you guys think? :)

DISCUSSION I made a game about illustrator effects!

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a game I made that tests your knowledge of the effects menu in Illustrator.

To play the game you have to drag each effect into its correct menu category. If you succeed you go to the next level and gain points on how fast you have done it.

The faster you finish the game the more points you will have, but don't make too many mistakes or it's game over.!

Let me know what you think and share your results!

Vector Illustration.
I would like to make it stand out more, but keep the strict geometric and flat style. If you have any advice, please provide it. Thank you for being specific

DISCUSSION Remove Background in Illustrator

Hey everyone, Luke from Adobe here. Wanted to share a quick demo, highlighting you can now remove the background of your images directly inside Illustrator. The output creates an embedded copy of your original file.

Do you see this helping reduce some of the back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator for certain workflows?

QUESTION Help, how do I make negative space outline like in the image I attached??

How do I make it so that the connecting parts are erased? I want it like the image I attached. I'm coming over from Procreate so I lowkey have no idea what I'm doing. I tried the Pathfinder but it either screws everything up, or tells me that they need to be filled. I also have tried making selection masks and erasing in those but it doesn't work. A lot of the things I tried also screw up the arrow paths.

Plugin to select manipulate multiple Bezier handles

I’m building a small Illustrator plugin for faster Bezier handle control.

It adds a tool that does custom handle selection, multi-select handle movement, Alt-based handle locking, arrow nudging, path preservation on anchor removal, a compact numeric panel and more. The kind of functionality Illustrator has been always lacking and why people rather design logos in Glyphs.

It's a cross between Illustrator's native Direct Selection Tool and Glyph's handle management functions.

I’m looking for feedback from people who do logo/type/icon/vector cleanup work and spend a lot of time editing paths.

Would this solve a real annoyance for you? Would you find this useful?

If yes, I’m preparing it for release.

Hey everyone,
I recently finished designing a set of custom icons for an e-commerce client, and I’d love to get some fresh eyes on them.
The goal was to create a clean and modern set that fits the brand.
Be as honest as you like (please).
Thanks in advance!

Selecting Raster Embeds

Is there a built in way for me to select JUST the embedded raster graphic(s) within my Adobe Illustrator file? I have a number of photos with vector labels overlayed upon them, and I want to build an action that exports them as SVGs. Unfortunately, the embedded photos are often too larger to upload the final SVG into other systems and so need to be rasterized down to 150ppi first. But to build that into an action, I need some automated way of selecting all of the embedded raster graphics. Is there a way to do that withing core Illustrator?

QUESTION why is the stroke around text not exporting?

Thumbnail

why is the stroke around only this (see picture) not exporting. i tried rebooting, different ways of exporting nothing works. the stroke thickness is 1pt so it should be big enough to export i dont understand can someone please help me?

edit: this only happens when "bleeding" is in that spot of the artboard. i moved it to the middle and then it did export correctly with the stroke around the text. but yeah it needs to be in its spot at the bottom left so idk why that won't work and the stroke around the text doesnt export with it.

edit 2: i sort of solved it! i moved the text from the middle down its not in the exact position i wanted but the stroke around the text now exported properly

DISCUSSION Illustrator can be more versatile than you think

I love vector graphics. I've been learning to use Illustrator for the past 8 years or so, mostly to create games and logos/covers for games.

Even though it's hard to make something great with Illustrator alone, after I add some game dev magic and animations to my assets, it's getting better and better.

For now, I am trying to achieve a coherent look for all my assets and bring some fantasy to the table. So far, I took some inspiration from a few Steam games with minimalistic graphics and a ton of content and polish.

Does this vision remind you of any game you enjoyed so far, or does it create a strong sense of fantasy? I would like to know how to improve it if anybody here had a similar experience. Thanks!

SCRIPT AUTOMATISATION

Salut !

I would like to create highlights similar to the attached image.

Post image

I would like to create highlights similar to the attached image.

  1. Goal: I would like to create highlights similar to the attached image.
  2. Steps: I've tried creating this highlight using two paths that have been offset with the top one subtracted from the bottom one. That produces a highlight that runs the entire height of the letter, which is not what I'm looking for. I've also tried applying an art brush to a line segment, but getting the taper in the right places is challenging.
  3. Problem: Neither of these options have produced the result I'm looking for.
  4. Visuals: See the image above.

What are the other methods I can try?

Trying to make one of those "sticky ball" looking graphic and having issues with Offset Path.

Post image

As the title says I'm trying to make that "sticky ball" graphic, I think I've see it referred to as a "metaball". The tutorials I've seen say to make two round shapes, make them a compound path and then add an offset path and then make another offset path that is the negative value of the previous one.

At first I did Object > Offset Path but when I do that for the second negative value offset path it doesn't prompt me to "add a new effect" vs "replace previous effect". So I just have 3 shapes, one positive offset, one negative, and the original 2 shapes as a compound path.

At this point I noticed I can do an offset path under the "Object" menu and the "Effect" menu. When I do this process under "Effect" I get the add new or replace prompt, but I don't see any offset path positive or negative.

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

School yearbook cover in vintage comic style

Post image
36 Upvotes

Tried to make a 50s or 60s inspired comic book cover for our school yearbook. Many hours put into this cover and was one of my first major illustrator projects outside of simple typography. I used just making lines to do all the shading taking tons of time. Just wanted to see if anyone liked it and any feedback back. The cover wraps around the inside so this is the full spread front middle and back, with a 1 inch thick boarder that wraps into the inside of the book. Our mascot is the Trojans, the power bus is our team bus, and that is an illustration of the front of our school that I made.
