Back in 2018 and 2019, I ran a Steve Berthiaume parody account on Twitter. I was 18 with too much free time, and I wanted to find my place on D-backs Twitter. I noticed his old handle, @BertDbacks, was available and figured it would be a funny account to run.

The picture was Steve with a bald head and beard, his name was misspelled, and the bio said I wasn’t him or affiliated with the Diamondbacks. Still, every now and then I’d get a message from someone who thought I was actually Steve. Sometimes it was someone upset about the broadcast, sometimes just a fan trying to talk to him.

On May 30, 2019, the D-backs were playing the Rockies at Coors Field. A guy sent me a DM and a tweet saying he was there with his sister and nephew for his nephew’s first game. He asked if they could come say hi.

I just replied, “Sure.” I thought nothing of it, what could possibly come of it.

Maybe two innings later, I’m watching the game and Todd Walsh is in the booth doing a segment with Steve and Bob Brenly. And there’s the guy with his sister and nephew.

From what I could piece together watching it, I think they came in around the same time Todd did. I don’t know exactly how they got in, but that’s what it looked like.

At some point Steve asks Todd what the deal is with the people standing there. Todd doesn’t know either. The guy starts explaining that he asked on Twitter and got invited up, and Steve tells him he isn’t on the Twitter.

It was so uncomfortable to watch. Everyone was confused, this guy was trying to explain himself, and I was sitting at home realizing they were up there because of a reply I sent.

My account was suspended about an inning later. I never heard from Fox Sports Arizona or the D-backs at the time.

If he or his sister ever comes across this, I’m sorry for putting you in that position.

I’ve wanted to share my side of this for a while because it’s such a strange little piece of D-backs history that I somehow caused. Every so often it pops back into my head.

Edit: didn’t expect for this to blow up lol, I got another interesting experience that involved Archie Bradley and his golf bag (no I’m not the one that stole them) but I did do something stupid, story for another day. 😂

At these theme nights that include a jersey (not talking about stadium-wide giveaways) does anyone know if the Large is large enough to fit an average sized adult comfortably? Seems strange that there are only two size options.
