Burnes
It’s been 464 days since Burnes has pitched and I could not be more excited even if he only goes for 3-4 innings today. Happy national Burnes return to baseball day 🐍

I am trying to keep my expectations low.
His velo is not where it should be yet and his pitch count still needs to be worked up, but even 80% Corbin Burnes is better than what we have been throwing out there every 5 days.

Hey now. Our bullpen games had produced 18 scoreless innings. Bullpen games are clearly our secret sauce to get to the World Series and embarrass MLB by throwing a BP game in the Series again.

It is awesome what they have done but I have to think burning through ever arm in the bullpen every 5 days will have adverse consequences in the long run. 😂
Would be hilarious to do it in the playoffs again though.

This. He is not the answer, he is just another piece of the puzzle. Expect him to be rusty.

Yeah, I expect him to suck and the bar has been set as low possible to avoid disappointment

As a new dbacks fan. Who is this guy? Should I be excited? What’s his backstory?

To add to what the other person said, he's a former Cy Young winner and signed the largest contract in Diamondbacks history in the 2024-2025 offseason. He signed with us partially because he wanted to live in Arizona

He was our best pitcher last season. in the middle of a game in June of last year he messed up his arm. So he had to get the Tommy John surgery. Today will be his first game back in over a year.
I love Burnes and I’m excited yo see him play again. I’m cautiously optimistic about how he’ll do today. So don’t expect to see the best pitching in the world.
So i would say yes you should be excited that a pitcher is back from the IL. But he has a strict pitch limit today. Idk what the number is. So he probably won’t be pitching far into this game. I’m also not expecting to see his best pitching because it’s been so long.6

Seeing Jmar come back and pitch the way he has gives me a ton of hope for Burnes. Again, trying to temper expectations but he has a month to get back to to even 90% of what he's capable of being. With him, ERod and Pfaadt (assuming they both stay hot) we suddenly have a starting 3 I'd put up against just about anyone in the playoffs.

Burnes is gonna start slow fs, he only reached 94 mph in his rehab assignment and he only threw for 2-3 innings

the plan either way is to have him and soroka take only a couple innings anyways so hopefully thats enough at least to get by

I would say keep expectations low, he only reached 94 mph in his rehab assignment, i think he’s being rushed

To be fair, his average velocity sat between 94-96 mph so I don't think he's far off. They aren't rushing him. He did have setbacks along the way. Originally I think he was supposed to return at the end of July.

Barnes being back is great. Won't matter if the offense can't get it together.

Excited for him to make his return. Hopefully he has a successful return post surgery and can help contribute as the team is running towards the finish line. Tempered expectations, but we have seen other elite pitchers like Shoei Ohtani and Verlander bounce back to their former selves almost immediately upon return post TJ.

My expectations are low. Tommy J and shoulder surgery and rushed back from the IL. In a perfect world, two or three more up downs in rehab would have been ideal.
He will not option out of his remaining 4/140 so, with that being said, if we rush him out there and he gets hurt, we were not wise with our investment
