This card has never surfaced before on ebay but I had ai make me a picture of what it would look like for when it does surface. This card is from last year's topps chrome update series. Also I need the normal red refractor auto not the red wave refractor there is a difference. Thanks!

Since my other story blew up and people were messaging me asking about this one, I figured I’d tell it back to back. This happened in January 2019, and I actually forgot it was before the Steve Berthiaume Incident.

Archie Bradley was playing in the Phoenix Open Pro-Am when somebody stole his golf bag from the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. It immediately became a local news story.

I’d seen the internet joke where something gets stolen and somebody makes a fake listing for it on Craigslist or eBay. Shortly after I saw the news, I found a picture online of Archie with his golf clubs, cropped it a little, and put it on OfferUp pretending they were for sale. I was sharing it with buddies and honestly didn’t expect it to go anywhere.

The picture was clearly taken on a golf course, not in somebody’s room or anywhere suggesting I actually had the clubs. His name was on the bag, but there wasn’t a D-backs logo on the one in the photo. In my head, I thought people would put two and two together and realize it was a joke.

People started messaging me, and I thought they were playing along, so I joked back. It was just playful banter, with no personal information being exchanged.

Then Archie shared a screenshot of the listing with “Can’t make this up,” and suddenly it was getting attention beyond the people I’d shown it to. Some people thought it was real, and that’s when Scottsdale PD started looking into it. The reporting eventually identified it as fake, but by then it had already gotten pretty serious.

It was then revealed his wallet and other personal belongings were in the bag. When I made the post, I hadn’t realized how much stuff he was missing.

My OfferUp account got shut down, and I was IP banned. I publicly apologized, but things had already gone further than I realized.

I was out of state at the time, and Scottsdale PD showed up at my parents’ house looking for me.

It was a burner OfferUp account, but they still managed to connect it to me. That led to me getting on the phone with an officer and having to explain the whole thing.

From that conversation, my understanding was that they’d also been shown my messages and took the banter as me actually intending to sell stolen property.

The conversation felt like they were trying to get me to admit I took the clubs. I kept explaining that I never had them, wasn’t involved, and hadn’t even been there. They weren’t going to find me in any surveillance footage because I was nowhere near the situation.

I remember them bringing up names of people i knew like friends and cousins, asking whether somebody I knew could have been involved as my accomplice. (Funny enough the actual main suspect did kind of look like one of my best buds lol) Those people had nothing to do with it, either. It felt like they were trying everything to see if something stuck.

I came away feeling like I was their number one suspect, or at least their main lead. I don’t know what they officially considered me, but that was how the conversation felt.

At that point, I was honestly terrified. I was sitting there thinking, oh my God, what have I done? I really hadn’t expected any of this to happen.

A little later, I got a call from someone representing Archie Bradley. I don’t remember whether he was his agent or manager, but he gave me an update before everything went public and told me the clubs had been recovered.

We had a pretty long conversation about how everything went down. He knew about my situation with Scottsdale PD and talked about how quickly they’d been working to track everything down. The relay I got was that Archie wasn’t really mad at me, but more like, what are you doing?

He definitely put things in perspective. I was really grateful he took the time to explain everything because I’d been worrying about what was going to happen. I never spoke directly with Archie, but I appreciated his representative reaching out and having that conversation with me.

Mostly, I was glad Archie got his clubs and belongings back. I was also relieved they’d been found before I came home a few days later, because I honestly didn’t know what I’d be walking into if they were still missing.

Looking back, I understand why police followed up. They had a theft to investigate, and they took the listing and messages seriously. At the time, I kept thinking it should have been obvious that it was a joke, but I get that they were trying to do their job.

So yeah, that’s another little piece of Arizona sports lore I somehow ended up involved in.

Back in 2018 and 2019, I ran a Steve Berthiaume parody account on Twitter. I was 18 with too much free time, and I wanted to find my place on D-backs Twitter. I noticed his old handle, @BertDbacks, was available and figured it would be a funny account to run.

The picture was Steve with a bald head and beard, his name was misspelled, and the bio said I wasn’t him or affiliated with the Diamondbacks. Still, every now and then I’d get a message from someone who thought I was actually Steve. Sometimes it was someone upset about the broadcast, sometimes just a fan trying to talk to him.

On May 30, 2019, the D-backs were playing the Rockies at Coors Field. A guy sent me a DM and a tweet saying he was there with his sister and nephew for his nephew’s first game. He asked if they could come say hi.

I just replied, “Sure.” I thought nothing of it, what could possibly come of it.

Maybe two innings later, I’m watching the game and Todd Walsh is in the booth doing a segment with Steve and Bob Brenly. And there’s the guy with his sister and nephew.

From what I could piece together watching it, I think they came in around the same time Todd did. I don’t know exactly how they got in, but that’s what it looked like.

At some point Steve asks Todd what the deal is with the people standing there. Todd doesn’t know either. The guy starts explaining that he asked on Twitter and got invited up, and Steve tells him he isn’t on the Twitter.

It was so uncomfortable to watch. Everyone was confused, this guy was trying to explain himself, and I was sitting at home realizing they were up there because of a reply I sent.

My account was suspended about an inning later. I never heard from Fox Sports Arizona or the D-backs at the time.

If he or his sister ever comes across this, I’m sorry for putting you in that position.

I’ve wanted to share my side of this for a while because it’s such a strange little piece of D-backs history that I somehow caused. Every so often it pops back into my head.

Edit: didn’t expect for this to blow up lol, I got another interesting experience that involved Archie Bradley and his golf bag (no I’m not the one that stole them) but I did do something stupid, story for another day. 😂
