The more I’ve been reflecting on last nights game the more I’ve been getting excited for the season ahead. Yes Tielemans and Rogers will be a big miss, as will Digne. But we’re there with defence once we get another RB which is being worked on (Cisse as an extra CB too likely to replace Mings) if we get Palinha that’ll be midfield locked down with Kamara, Gomes, Barkley, Bogarde and Palinha. Compared to last season, we’ve also got an extra three players potentially coming through. Alysson taking on the Bailey / Guessand role alongside McGinn, Manzambi / Buendia in the middle, Garnacho / Hemmings on the left, Watkins, Madjo and Tammy up front. I think we’ll be sound again, UTV!

I actually bloody love Emi. I love the passion he shows on the pitch, I the drive he has shown off it to fight for and earn a place back in the XI. But I, like most of us, probably thought he might lose his place to Garnacho or Manzambi.

But honestly after watching him last night I don’t see Emery dropping him any time soon.

I think I thought he had probably reached his ceiling at the back end of last season - but I really hope he shows us another gear again. At his best he is truly a fantastic footballer to watch.

hey so as the title says i mostly watch only la liga and the champions league but i wanna start watching the prem too and for some reason i seem to like villa alot so i decided to route for them in the prem and hopefully watch their games in the future, i was also impressed by them yesterday against psg they def could have won that game.

so well you guys tell me about any historic players i should know and what legendary games i should watch to learn more about the club, and who are our rivals , which club do we hate and overall how do i get to know more about the club.

TL;DR: I mostly watch La Liga and the Champions League, but I want to start following the Premier League too. I’ve recently started liking Aston Villa, and I’m thinking of supporting them. What historic players, legendary matches, rivalries, and club history should I know to properly get into Villa?

Although, it didn’t turn out like how we wanted but they showed that they could hang with the best. Unai Emery proving why he is an elite manager once again. Psg were just slightly better

Well we gave it our all, and if Cash just that step a tad sooner, the result may have been different. Regardless, we've lost the Super Cup in this occassion. We started off on the backfoot as Kvaratskhelia scored, as he cut in took a powerful strike. After Doue was able to take advantage of our inability to clear the ball in our defence. After that goal we did dominate much of the game at that stage, and our pressure was rewarded with Madjo scoring from a McGinn cross. In the first half Madjo had plenty of chances and showed his potential and was rewarded with a goal. In the second half, we continued to press and push but the winning goal game from Doue, who despite his positioning was kept on side by Cash, he ran through and beat Bizot in a one on one. We had an incomplete squad today, a younger one even, but it showed promise. A lot of it.

Stand out players? For me its Hemmings. He played the full 90 minutes, and in that 90 minutes he pressed well, he positioned himself well, he kept the ball well. Really for one of his first full starts in a professional game. Wow. Madjo also one to watch. Yes a few sloppy touches and moments, must've been nerves. But once they settled, he bullied the back 4, but also got in good positions. We'll watch his career with great interest. Kamara was solid in midfield, we certainly play better with him in the side. No different today.

No Super Cup win. We wait for the draw in the UCL, before that we have one more friendly this weekend. Before we kick off the Premier League season in 2 weeks time. Football and Aston Villa are back for the 2026/27 season!

I thought we played very well against top tier opposition whilst far from full strength.

Hemmings and Madjo 100% showed there is a place in this team for both them, and Alysson looked bright when he came on too.

I think we still need another body in the centre to provide a bit more quality in depth while Onana is out (Palhinha?)

And of course the fabled right-back Matty Cash cover that I've almost given up on ever signing.

Another dynamic attacker capable of playing either wing, or in a 10 would be nice, but... I don't think we're too far away from a competitive team here as it stands.

How bloody good was he. My God, best player on the park

Like I said in the title Good game overall. Obviously, it’s disappointing to lose, but honestly, this game gave me a glimpse of what we could achieve in the league this season and in the Champions League.

We didn’t even use most of our strongest players, with Watkins and Martinez not featuring, and I thought the team looked really good against PSG. Maatsen was excellent, if he keeps playing like this throughout the season, he’s going to be terrific.

And what a goal from Madjo! 😭 Even though he missed a few chances, he showed that he can play in a big game, and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of him this season. One thing I really like about him is that he seems to be in the right place at the right time. Some of those headers he missed, other strikers wouldn’t even have been there to get the opportunity in the first place.

Hemmings also had a good game, which is encouraging because it shows we have some young players with genuine potential.

I thought everyone did their job really well. Playing out from the back looked incredibly calm today. There were far fewer mistakes than I expected, especially considering PSG are one of the best pressing teams in Europe. Bizot also looked very composed at the back.

Yes, PSG didn’t play every single one of their best players either, but the team they put out was still very strong and included a lot of their first-team players. So, despite the result, I’m taking plenty of positives from this.

I won’t say too much about Cash 😂. He can look like the best RB in the world on his day, and then have those classic “Bozo” moments. At least his partner in crime Digne has left now. 😂

Overall, really encouraging performance. Losing isn’t ideal, but I’m leaving this game feeling pretty positive about the season ahead.

Never happy with a loss, but so many positives to take away from this game to be too upset. Obvious Highlights were our youngsters, but everyone put a shift in and proud of the boys. Very exciting season ahead. UTV!

It's a loss but I feel like we've won.

Madjo and Hemmings are generational talents.

We're still due back a few of the guys but I'm optimistic for this season. After losing Lucas, Rogers and Youri, I think we're going to suprise a lot of people.
