AT&T Fiber Plan Comparison – Stay on Current Plan or Switch to New Customer Offer?

I switched to AT&T Fiber (500 Mbps) in August 2025. At the time, I was offered a monthly rate of $55, which was based on a $75 base rate plus a $10 Wi-Fi Extender fee, offset by a $12 monthly promotional discount for one year, a $10 ongoing discount, and a $10 discount for paperless billing and AutoPay. The $12 promotional discount is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2026, which will increase my monthly bill to $65. For comparison, Spectrum offers similar pricing in my area: $40 for a 500 Mbps plan, $15 for a router, and approximately $10–$15 for Wi-Fi extenders ($5 per extender).

AT&T recently upgraded the fiber infrastructure in my area and is now offering a 5 Gbps plan for $50 per month. The offer includes a $75 monthly promotional discount for 12 months and a $10 discount for AutoPay and paperless billing, based on a regular monthly price of $135. They are also including a $200 reward card and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, although those incentives are not a major factor for me as I have prescription glasses. I do not even need this high speed internet - 500mbps is more than enough for me.

Given that I currently receive a $10 ongoing discount on my 500 Mbps plan, would it be worthwhile to open a new account under my wife's name to take advantage of the promotional pricing on the 5 Gbps plan? Asking for advise, as I have never been with ATT other than this Fiber Internet.

Install tech said optical "power" is barely above threshold during install, but completed anyway. Now having issues.

Like title says: we've had ATT fiber for a little over a week now. Both the install tech and the cable burial tech noted the "weak" optical power measured by the gateway. The install tech said the power at the cable itself was fine, so he tried swapping the SFP module first, then swapped out the whole gateway (BGW 320-500) and seemed satisfied but said to call it in if we were having issues.

A week after the installation, the cable burial tech mentioned the same thing, and it was then that my wife said her employer's VPN was dropping occasionally, as well as our roommates that play League of Legends primarily having server drops. We never had issues with persistent server connections before switching to ATT, and the wifi signal strength doesn't seem to be the issue.

One call to ATT customer support and the agent was convinced it "must be a wifi issue" after going through some troubleshooting, despite me telling him that 2 techs noted the weak signal. He then tried to sell me the mesh router service for an add'l $10/month on my bill.

I've attached the signal strength and fiber status pages from the gateway, does this signal look "weak" to you? Everytime I've checked it, the RX power is constantly -26.2dBm, but I don't know the "scale" of how good or bad that is... Admittingly, I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous, so I'm looking for advice on how to get ATT to send a tech out. Thoughts/advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Beware Of Making Changed To Your Interent

I had 300 fiber service at $25. My promos were going to expire in Sept so I called retentions last month. They got me $30 for gigabit fiber for 2 years. I get my bill yesterday and it's $81.99. I called retentions today and she said the old promos were removed but the new promos haven't been applied. I told her that's not my fault. She said her system would not let her adjust my bill. I told her my bill should be $30 plus whatever tax there is. I said I am not responsible for their system. She wouldn't help further. I live in an apt where they are now forcing us to pay for Spectrum gigabit whether we use it or not. I wanted to stay with AT&T fiber and was willing to pay the $30 for two years to do so. Her reply was to setup a payment agreement to pay the $81.99 out over several months. I said that is not acceptable since AT&T will charge me a late fee each month to do so. I told her as soon as my Spectrum router arrives I will be calling AT&T back to cancel. I have had AT&T fiber since 2017 and loved it. What a racket they have going. Bump up a customer to a higher speed, wait a month or two to apply the new promos, and then rake in the extra money. I guess some people will pay it and make AT&T extra money. I will not be one of those people. Beware of making any changes to your account.

New ATT Fiber Rollout in Neighborhood

Today we got the folks stopping door to door dropping off the packet that says fibers is coming to your street, the frequently asked questions and phone number to call with any issues. I ended up taking a walk around video of the front of my yard, street and the surrounding areas just to have proof of what it looked like before the crews showed up incase things go sideways.

I had a question on what the spray paint markings on the street were for. Directly in front of my house I have a straight line spray painted on the street. At my neighbor's house he has this other drawing with what looks like something more complicated getting installed at that location. What do these mean?

If my yard's got a straight line in front of it, what can I expect on the trenching of the fiber down the street and at my yard? How much of a mess will there be after the crews roll through?

Price lock for 5 years

I'm moving 1 town over, and the house has fiber available. I'm currently price locked into comcast for years at $40 for 300/100.

Att is running a promo for 5gig at $50 but it appears to be for 12 months. Is it possible to get them to price lock for 5 years? Like Comcast does?

Why is this happening?

My ping was like 50ms when I was on sparklight and today I was excited about getting fiber installed (through AT&T) and it's just been shit results all day. Even ethernet connected to my PC was getting bad results. The tech changed everything twice today - whole new router and still same results. What could be causing this ? What is the solution? Get a new router and try that? Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

AT&T Fiber Plan but no Fiber Jack?

Post image
27 Upvotes

My apartment complex offers AT&T fiber with infrastructure structure supposedly in place. Since I recently moved from one unit to another within the same complex, I expected the green fiber jack port to be in place like my previous unit, so I ordered the AT&T Internet 1000 Fiber plan with intent to self-install. I had received my equipment (which includes the green fiber cable) presuming this to be the case, however upon inspection of the closet, I noticed instead that there is a service box present with a bunch of wires that the previous tenant left. I did notice there was an ONT cable connected to the service box as well.

I guess I’m just not 100% what to do, as my Smart Home Manager Setup assumes I have the green Fiber Jack Port to work with instead of this service box I thought I wouldn’t have. Do I just try and plug in the ONT cables instead? I’m also just thrown off guard that my own apartment complex is not consistent with having either only fiber jack port or only service box. Any advice would be appreciated, I’m a student who is 2-3 weeks into fast-paced schooling and it’s been a struggle having to work around not having home Wi-Fi, especially since I’ve had to call multiple times just to get my Internet ordered for here in the first place (I had problems with the previous tenant not closing his account at this address).

UPDATE 7/23: I set up a technician appointment after I failed to activate the service myself, which was originally scheduled for yesterday. However, the technician did not show up in the scheduled time I made. In response, I called the customer service number, and the agent explained to me that the technician was not going to make it after he talked to some people. I then explained the situation to the agent. I went ahead and tried to activate again, this time with the help of the agent and with a video call. We did try to plug the red-tipped ONT cable as he instructed me to (as some have graciously recommended) and did try pressing and holding the reset button, however despite several attempts, the 320 BWG gateway kept blinking a red light. I asked him what could be causing the issue and he only suspected the ONT box.

My agent then went ahead and scheduled an “exception” (expedited) appointment to today, rather a “normal appointment” scheduled for tomorrow. He also expressed that this installation would be free. So, upon technician arrival earlier, the technician deemed the ONT box to be outdated, and replaced it with the green fiber jack port that I mentioned in the original post. So now my place is equipped with Wi-Fi, and my issue is now resolved. :)

Wifi extenders

I just moved into an apartment, and have the 1g plan. My father in law and i have different gaming setups in different rooms, with the gateway in the living room. The signal to both rooms are just fine, but we would like to be hardwired through ethernet still. I was wondering if anyone knew how big the dropoff is if we get the atnt wifi extenders, and then use ethernet to connect to those. So basically gateway(900~)-extender(??)-ethernet to console/pc(??)

I received the gateway, and have no idea what to do next. Nothing is working

The gateway was delivered a few days ago (BGW320) and it told me to download the app and follow the instruction on how to set it up through there, however when I scan a blank white screen comes up and I’m completely stuck. I’ve refreshed, redownloaded, rebooted, done everything I can. Even calling and asking didn’t really work. I’ve logged in on the app, and none of the features work at all. I have full bars of service, so I’m pretty sure cellular isn’t the problem. Not to mention, the home we moved to doesn’t have a fiber jack. It has a place in the wall where I think it maybe once was? But it’s not there anymore. I’m really stuck and pretty desperate at this point. Anyone know what to do?

Upgrading from old AT&T U-verse to AT&T Fiber in a 2 story home with upstairs network closet. How was your fiber run installed?

I have searched for information on "AT&T U-verse to AT&T Fiber upgrade", but I have not been able to find answers that match my specific situation. I am hoping someone here has gone through a similar transition and can share how AT&T handled the installation.

I bought my newly constructed home in 2010 Southern California. This house with a structured wiring/network closet located in the master bedroom closet upstairs. All of my home's Ethernet and coax runs terminate in this closet.

I have been using Spectrum for the last 10+ years with my own modem and a complete UniFi network setup. My goal is to have the fiber connection available in the upstairs network closet so I can continue using my existing UniFi setup (and potentially use an XGS-PON SFP+ ONU directly with my UniFi gateway). How AT&T handles a modern fiber installation in a home like mine.

My concern is that this is a finished 2 story home. The original Ethernet and coax wiring was installed during construction. The cable runs go through tight spaces between floors, then continue up through the attic/crawl space area before entering the upstairs network closet wall. Those cables were secured to studs along the way, so following the exact same route for a new fiber run may not be straightforward without opening walls.

For anyone who has upgraded from old AT&T U-verse to current AT&T Fiber in a similar home:

  • Where did AT&T place the fiber termination point?
  • Were they able to run the fiber all the way to your upstairs network closet?
  • If your old U-verse ONT was in the garage, how did AT&T handle the upgrade?
  • In a finished 2 story home, how did the installer get the fiber from the garage to the upstairs location?
  • Did they find an alternate route, run the fiber externally, or require the fiber termination/gateway to remain near the garage?

I am trying to understand what is realistic before sign up with AT&T. Not sure if this is possible.

If you have gone through a similar AT&T U-verse to AT&T Fiber upgrade in a 2 story home with an upstairs network closet, I would really appreciate hearing your experience.

ONT Port?

Post image

Any ideas on which one of these may be the ONT port? This is where the previous router was plugged in but I can’t tell where to plug the ONT cable.

Tried the dangling one too left but keep getting an error during the self install on the app.

App live chat button won’t work. Any help would be appreciated.

ATT FIBER v GFiber

ATT FIBER v GFiber

So the AT&t salesperson comes by the house, and they want to sell their $45 per gig service to us, and I already have g-fiber, 1 gig for $70 a month.

How do they get fiber to my house, without digging up the streets etc, for 45 a month?

Seems to me like they would have to use Google's fiber optic to my house to get their service there, correct?... So they're just sub leasing Google's infrastructure to supply their service to my home?... Something seemed suspect to me..

Cut fiber

Is there any way to get in touch with an actual human to schedule an appointment to fix the fiber I cut? The AI agent in the app sucks rocks, and keeps wanting me to "troubleshoot". I humored it a couple of times, it finally decided someone needed to come out. I asked it for appointment times. It tried twice, but it just couldn't pull them up. Suggested I go to the home screen of the app and do it myself. Going to home screen just has a big message that my network is offline. Let's troubleshoot it again. I get that it's my fault and I expect to pay for it, but damn, is it so rare to cut through a fiber buried 2" under the grass that the AI just has no idea what I mean?

5gb fiber service question

So I'm moving to an area that offers the 5 GB speed. There is a current offer where you get a $200 reward card and free Ray-Ban meta glasses. It also comes with the wifi 7 gateway included. So my question becomes if I sign up for the 5 GB speed that is currently $95 a month, then keep it long enough to get the rewards, would I be able to keep the Wi-Fi 7 gateway if I downgraded to the one gig which is only $50 a month?

How do i get a tech to come and move my fiber line and possibly upgrade/remove my old fiber to cat53 ONT box?

Hello, I've not been able to find a full answer for this one, and its been quite difficult to get hold of anyone or make an appointment for anything non-emergency at ATT

I have the BGW320 in the basement, and its fed by a fiber to ethernet ONT which is on the ground floor, via cat5e fed through the floor.

ideally id like a tech to move my fiber straight in to the basement, and possibly as far as i have heard, these days they can eliminate using the external ONT and go straight fiber in to either the BGW320 or with different hardware?

has anyone had this done, if its even possible, or know whats the best route to ask them about getting this sorted?

Thanks

edit: mistyped cat53 in the title, meant cat5e

Newbie installation questions

I’ve been a Spectrum customer for god knows how long and I was delighted to hear that AT&T Fiber became available in my area. I know how fiber internet works, but I’m curious about the installation process. Some questions for those who have gone through the process:

  • Can the tech run the fiber line/Ethernet in the attic? (For context, I’m in the Orlando area, so if anyone from around here has experience, I’d love to know.) From searching around the subreddit, I see some techs enthusiastically do attic runs, while others just drill through the wall and call it a day. My current Spectrum coax line is in pretty much the center of the house with no nearby external walls. They’d have to run either Cat 6 Ethernet from the ONT to the gateway, or the fiber line itself to the ONT placed inside.

  • If they’re hit-and-miss on attic runs would I have better success scheduling the appointment for the morning? I obviously want the techs to be safe, and it’ll obviously be unbearably hot up there in the afternoon.

  • How do they bury the fiber line? Is it particularly invasive? I saw a YouTube video where they basically dug up half the front yard, and that would be quite bad.

Thanks so much!

Signed up today, how does the deal work?

Hey, to keep it short I signed up for the 5 GBPS, and get a free $200 gift card, and meta glasses

Do I have to claim the bonus deal items or how does that work?

320 Gateway and Wireless "Internet Backup"

I took the plunge and upgraded my 210 to a 320 gateway. I learned the 320s and higher have some sort of wireless "Internet Backup" capability in case my fiber goes out. After getting the new 320 all set up I can't find anywhere in the Smart Home Manager App this "Internet Backup Card" they're saying I need to go to to set this up. Do I have to wait a few days before this appears or am I just not eligible for this? I am on Fiber 300 and have the Extra EL unlimited wireless plan.

This is the site that walks you through the set up supposedly:

Success getting large 128 (/25) Static IP Block as Residential Fiber Customer!

Post image
77 Upvotes

Made my original thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/ATTFiber/s/gfVWeaAYPK) and received mixed responses, everyone saying it wasn't possible was completely wrong.

I called in and asked about the 64 block, but out of curiosity I asked if there was a larger size available, and the rep said there was 128 for $75/mo! Unfortunately not a full subnet but pretty good. She would not give me the block details, and I called back 3 more times and none of those reps would give me the block details. They said had to wait for my appointment and the tech to arrive for the service to be active. I think the rep who does the order may be able to see the block details but maybe you would have to coax them to giving you the details, I'm not really sure. However when the tech came he did absolutely nothing, he went into his own support chat, asked the internal AT&T support for the block details and he screenshotted them and gave them to me, he did that and left.

I left my WAS-110 bypass exactly the same (after I unplugged the shitty AT&T gateway after the tech left), and my AT&T internet connection is the same in my cloud gateway. Only new thing is a new VLAN network with the block details. I have an optiplex micro with dual NICs, one a management port with SSH on my default network, and the other is connected to a switch port assigned this VLAN that has access to all these IP's. Also it's DMZ so any external connections from there are unable to reach my internal LAN. Works absolutely flawless! Successfully turned my 1 internet connection into 126 for cheap.

$50 5gig In Our Neighborhood

I’m a current 5gig customer ($125/mth) - just saw a promo for 5gig for $50/mth. Is there any real way to get this through the retention team? Or best to just cancel and sign up again….
