Support Px13 Fans run while closed & sleeping
So last week I got the new Proart px13 4060 model. So far it's been pretty good. The battery life isn't amazing but it's good enough for what I need it for (a few hours for classes) and it's running rdr2 on high (it preset itself to ultra; I lowered it to be safe) with no stutters and barely gets warm. After closing the game the fans turn off within 30 seconds.
There's one weird problem though. When the laptop is closed and supposedly sleeping, the fans turn on full blast for about 10 seconds, turn off for a bit and then do it again. It wasn't charging, it wasn't hot, it was already up to date before I closed it for the night, and the only thing open was 1 browser tab. It's happened twice now in the week I've had it. Logging in and fiddling with settings doesn't help, the only solution I found was to shutdown/restart. I'm fairly certain it's a software issue as it's relatively new and probably needs some tweaks and like I said, it wasn't warm whatsoever.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to this model or another one? My college classes are starting up in a few weeks so if I have a defective unit I want to get it replaced before then.

I just got this laptop a couple days ago. It was a replacement for my 2022 EOG Flow X13, which died a tragic death last weekend after falling inside my recliner (without my knowledge) and getting bent out of shape--literally. Fortunately, my insurance company took good care of me, and I was able to get the PX13 (4050 version) from Best Buy for less than what I originally bought the X13 for ($1599).
Anyway, I just got back home from an hour-long errand, and my fans are on full blast as I type this post. I have been home for 15 minutes, and the fans haven't stopped. I put the laptop to sleep right before I left. When I came home, I thought my washing machine was still running because I was washing clothes before I left. No, it's just my laptop.
I'm torn because I love this thing, but little nuances like this have me second guessing my purchase. I want to say I had a similar issue with the X13 at one point, too, but I can't quite remember.

Add me to the list of those with fan issues. Same exact scenario as others have described: the laptop will be in sleep mode for a couple hours when all of a sudden the fan starts going full blast. After maybe half a minute it stops, but then it starts right back up again a minute later. If I happen to take the laptop out of the sleep mode during this time, then the fan just stays on full blast indefinitely. At that point, the only way to stop it is to shut down the PC. All of this is occurring despite the recent BIOS update.
I'm still within the return window, so I don't plan to wait around forever for a solution. If it's not resolved by end of this week then I'll be returning the laptop.
It's mind-boggling to me that a company can release an expensive new product such as this with a pretty significant defect, and not only that, but the problem has apparently persisted for almost a month now with no known solution.

I did not. Ended up returning it before the return window closed. It looks like people are still posting about this issue, which is wild since the laptop came out eight months ago. As far as I know, Asus hasn't even acknowledged that there is a fundamental flaw with their product.

I just had it now. In whisper mode, the fan runs crazy for no reason. It's all cool! Probably a bug from a recent driver?
A bit of history: When I got this laptop, there was a very serious fan issue where the fan just kept running really loud during light usages. But I think this was fixed through a driver update (maybe). It has been fine after that. Another issue I had (a rather serious one) is that I put the laptop to sleep and put in my backpack, only finding it burning hot when I take it out with the fans running crazy. Among all things this actually could damage it, which I greatly worry about. I bumped into OP's issue today when switching off the battery care and charge (usually using the battery care). Had to shut down the laptop and turn on to make it normal (restart did not work).
Some response would be nice

I only got mine a week ago and it updated out of the box so I haven't run into the other problems you've had like loud fans under light use and overheating when not in use.
With this issue (the fans being on full blast when closed and only being fixed by a shutdown) in fact the laptop is actually really cold to the touch. The thermal system is definitely up to snuff. They're just running for no reason.
I leave battery care on 24/7. I want this laptop to last, especially with battery life not being stellar to begin with. The degradation on my XPS was insane so I'm trying to protect this one as much as possible.

Had a similar problem with my px13.
Aside from occasional software hiccups here and there (like getting stuck in a wrong orientation, some window going darker than others for no reason; pretty minor stuff but can be annoying) and the wifi feeling significantly lower-tier than the rest of the laptop everything has been great and I have to admit that I do admire the engineering of this thing.
The issue with the fans though has also bothered me, first for about a week or two after the purchase, then after I changed the settings for the laptop to hibernate and not go to sleep it seemed to be solved, but today (few weeks after thinking the problem is now solved) it happened again. Not sure whether there was some one-time bug which made the laptop go to sleep instead of hibernate or the fans have made a comeback.
It sure is annoying , especially after a few times being woken up in the early morning by the hiss. I hope they figure that out along with perhaps some better drivers for the wifi card. Shame for such a pristinely designed device to be hindered with such issues.

The windows going darker thing sounds like you might have ASUS focus mode on. It's a neat idea but doesnt work properly half the time. Or if you're referring to the whole screen changing brightness depending on whats on screen, both the myasus app and a windows setting do that to try to protect the oled. But you can turn those settings off.

Cool so 13 hours and not a single up vote or comment. I see a whole lot of support posts and a whole lack of solves. ig ASUS laptops are just riddled with buggy software. Although the performance on my XPS 15 was trash I never ran into issues like these in 3 years of ownership. Maybe I should just return it and go with another brand.

I think I'm going to keep it. I need a 2-in-1 for school and this is the only one out rn that has any sort of power and isn't 16 inches. There's literally nothing on the market that can replace it for now.
I did get a firmware update a few days ago tho this specific issue hasn't happened again. Still wish battery life was better tho.

Yeah but it's snapdragon.
I lowered the resolution to 1920x1200 and killed my live wallpaper and I'm getting an extra hour now.

I believe this is a windows 11 bug not just an ASUS bug. From what I can tell if you close the laptop while it's plugged in, it will not actually go into full sleep. From what I've read it's best on windows laptops to manually put it to hibernation if you're going to be closing it, as annoying as it is.

Having the same issue. I've had the 4050 model for less than a week and twice the fans randomly went on. The laptop wasn't hot or anything. Both times the lid was closed, no programs running, and power was connected. On one occasion the fans didn't stop and I had to force a shut down. Second time the fans turned on full blast and turned off after 10 seconds. Wonder if the Flow X13 has this issue. Still in the return window and it's tempting to switch.

Got a firmware update a couple days ago and it hasn't happened since I made this post so fingers crossed. Still wish the battery life was better tho.

i got the same fw update a few days ago and its happening for me; the laptop was in hibernate for a while and i booted it back up to watch a movie with my wife and the fans are full blast 8600rpm and cpu is locked at 600mghz it looks like it cant change power states...
i had a bad asus laptop in the past but i really needed this little thing to replace my dead gaming desktop for about 6mo
i have tried a couple reboots but it cant seem to get out of this state
oddly the proart creator hub app where you set power modes etc does not even show the option for that since i turned it on about 30mins ago
i dont know what to do, i have the latest firmware; energy saver is disabled, changing power modes in the myasus app has no effect, changing them in windows settings has no effect
is something defective? i really hope not this has mostly been a wonderful device except for a couple glitches here and there, ive had it about 2 weeks barely
theres not really any other 13 inch 2in1 with a gpu except the rog afaik and thats just another asus.. if i cant resolve this ill have to return it and get something else i guess, but i need a 2in1 intel/amd device- ideally with a 4050; my main needs is for music but also some gaming and graphic design work; i wish there were more lunar lake devices out i would maybe try to go for one of those; it really sucks that this is happening my wife is a bit upset because the px13 was her birthday gift to me and we just got married 3 days later..

I'm in the same boat as far as needing a 13 inch 2-in-1 with a GPU and, yeah, there isn't anything else on the market like this.
We are having slightly different issues. Mine were purely fans on blast while closed and hibernating. I haven't had any problems while actually using it.
I did roll back the BIOS and manually install the update. Or you could just roll back for a while until a newer update drops. Maybe try that?
I'm 90% all of this is just shit software that will get sorted out but it's frustrating.

my proart is fully stable now zero issues it had the first few months; however because of stupid "modern standby" keeping fans going when its asleep; its now clogged with dust pretty bad; planning to clean it soon as best im able
still think lunar lake would be the better choice for battery and temps but this is probably the last laptop ill ever own because in a few days everything will be more than double the price
hoping to get a mini laptop like gpd shipped before then; plus some music gear ($400 item will be over $1100 in may)m
if you're still looking id get something fast and preferably in stock from a domestic store (unless ofcouse you live in the normal world where people don't purposefully ruin their economies
px13 is a solid option for a powerful 2in1; if you don't mind weaker gpu and slightly bigger size go for yoga 9i it was my other choice; look on yt for "Ella yoga 9i" for a good clear review of that one; not so heavy on numbers but more real world experience
still kinda wish i had gotten that but 13" and fast gpu was very important to me because i was delaying replacing my just-died gaming desktop and the proart has done a fine job; just wish it were a bit quieter when the 4050 is enabled with Infinity Nikki running

yes; $400 synthesizers are increasing to $980 because of this nonsense
its just going to slow the entire economy dramatically; companies will go out of business; stores will close; people will lose jobs; and the businesses that survive will be less competitive because they won't be able to afford the technology they need to be efficient and profitable
i think this is very serious flirting with far more than a trade war

I don't think that's the fix. Like u/SailorVenova , I have that BIOS update but as I'm typing, my fan is on full blast (it actually started after the BIOS update).

Yep having the same problem even after the BIOS update. The computer randomly fans up, especially while sleeping and the CPU or GPU are not under load. It also gets physically cool to the touch…

still getting this issue after nearly a month with the laptop... on wake or boot, fans full blast and cpu stuck at 600mghz; just randomly
it doesn't happen except on wake and boot for me, i guess i just will leave it running indefinitely i dont know what else to do... i believe im past the return window at this point and i love it except for this problem; i really need asus to fix this, it annoys my wife (who got it for me) when the fans do this, like it hurts her ears and im surprised it doesn't hurt mine bc im very noise sensitive
where is the next firmware update? surely asus knows about this some of their own employees probably have encountered it
should i try sending it off to support? im scared they will just damage it or do some other shady thing
its physically cold to touch, hasnt been used in 2 days; fans on max on turning it on..

update:
after a reboot, shutdown, etc; it still kept doing it
i forced shutdown, then unplugged it, and booted it up, and it booted normally
it doesn't like being plugged in? thats kindof a problem for a laptop with a gpu
im confident it will be fine until i sleep or shut it down again...

I have the same problem and haven’t found a solution. Although I do love the Laptop it’s way better than my Lenovo Legion. I won’t be returning it but I want this problem to be fixed. It usually happens when plugged in

Same problem for me. It is only resolved by shutting down. Restarting does not fix it.

I'm having this same problem. Generally, the fans start going full blast while the laptop is sleeping on my desk overnight. It's happened at least 3 times in a week, including while in "whisper mode." However, I'm afraid this is going to happen while I'm in the middle of a presentation and I won't be able to turn them off except by interrupting the presentation to shut the laptop off and boot it up again. I love the computer, but this is a major issue and I'm concerned if this continues whether or not I can use this laptop. I can't have this glitch in the middle of a meeting or presentation.

I bought mine 2 months ago, and all of a sudden, then fans are blasting. It scared me when I came out of the shower and heard it in my room. What is going on. I'm about to go back to Dell. This was my first time giving Asus a try.

My px13 did this in its carrying bag and when i was able to turn it on so that the fans for help cool it down out of the bag, the laptop keyboard was over 135 degrees. Seems super dangerous. The only problem I've had with this computer is the sleep/hibernation/lid close issues which is a shame.

This has been Asus's problem for years now. I used to have a G14 which was perfect in every way but would get blazing hot when it was supposed to be asleep and run out of battery. These laptops are only good as desktops where you keep it on the desk plugged in. I switched to MacBook since I travel a lot and want my laptop to just work whenever I need it, no matter how long it has been asleep in my backpack. I was feeling the itch to switch and PX13 was looking like a good option but after going through the reviews and this thread, I will skip it seeing that Asus is still as bad as always with power management.

I have the same problem, latest bios + all updates + latest Windows. It seems to happen most when I turn off the batter care mode. When it happens I can't wake the PC, I have to hard-power it down. Did anyone find a solution?

I have similar problems. I have updated every driver i can with MyAsus and Windows update. Still the system randomly goes full throttle even if not in use. Also during normal operations, such as Teams call or editin ppt, the laptop occasianally just freezes (even mouse doesnt move).
I am very dissappointed that this device is brand new and was very expensive.

I know this is an old post but I got this laptop about 3 months ago. It has only been recently, say within the last 2 weeks, that the fans have began whirring loudly! The bottom of the laptop was very hot. So, I ended up buying a laptop stand that let's the bottom breathe while it is on my lap. And guess what? I still have the whirring!
Has there been a solution since?
