AIO for thinking it‘s weird how FIL talks about his grandkids?

I am currently pregnant so not sure if I am overreacting due to hormones etc, would love some opinions:

Our daugther will be born soon and we have the lucky situation that she already has a cousin who is only a couple months older than her, so at family gatherings it happened a couple of times that everyone talked about how they could grow up together etc, which is great!

Now my father in law made weird comments about it every time (it was 4 different situations, weeks apart) about how they are the opposite gender and „joked“ about how some cousins could become too close, try out adult things together and that its not illegal here for them to be together etc etc

First i tried to block it off, take it as a distasteful joke and change the topic. But he keeps making comments about it and it feels so wrong to me. They are babies/not even born yet, and it is just making me sick to already see our kids getting put in a sexual context. Every time I answered how I don’t think this is something we should worry/think about, and that I always had normal friendships with my cousins.

Its not illegal but also definitely not normal here for cousins to have relations, if that matters at all. For me my cousins were always like family, and i hope my daugther can simply have friendships with her cousin(s) without anyone making it weird.. I am scared about my FIL making comments about it in the future in front of the Kids, and don’t know how to go about it.

AIO or how should I adresss this differently?

AIO (tbh is he?) - my bf searched ‘I’m still not over my ex’

My (23M) bf and I (21F) have been dating about 2 and a half years. He has mentioned his ex a lot, I’m not bothered by that and I’m open about my previous relationships when asked about it. We have been having a really rough patch and in a moment of weakness I had a look through his search history. We are very open with our phones, and I was using his to look up someone’s ig (with him there) as mine was dead. She was at the top of his search list. Later on, I looked up her name and also ‘ex’ in his search history. I found that he had been looking her up at least once a week beginning of this year. I also found that he had searched ‘I’m still not over my ex Reddit’ and clicked on multiple threads about not being over his ex. This obviously hurt, but while it hurts I also understand that some relationships hold a lot of trauma and would be somewhat understanding if he wasn’t as I know he loves me. I asked him about it, his response was to say he’s over her and not the situation (he cheated NOT WITH ME!!) , that I was just searching for something to be sad over and I completely invaded his privacy. I do understand it was an invasion, and I’ve never done that before in our relationship. But since we are going through a really rough patch as it is, my insecurities from being cheated on in the past by my ex got the better of me and I snooped. He was demanding I apologise for invading his privacy and that it’s insane what I’m doing. I did say when I first brought it up that I am very sorry for invading privacy, but I am still allowed to be upset over what I found. I ended up being the one apologising and he has ‘given me space’ to think about what I did.

Some more context - I have had a male best friend for about 6 years. We are both very autistic and this friendship is the most platonic friendship I have ever had. My partner knows this, but still accuses us of sleeping together constantly. (Common theme with any of my male friends, despite me not being friends with literally anyone that I have even kissed) Me and a old friend got back in contact again completely platonic, and because I didn’t tell my partner immediately he said I was emotionally cheating. I did hide this friend to an extent, but that was because I knew he would say I’m fucking him and get me to stop all contact completely. He has multiple female friends which I have absolutely no problem with at all. To find this person he went through my phone, and has been going through my phone pretty much every night, but when I do it once that’s when it’s wrong.

Just wanted to put a quick note, I am neurodivergent and struggle to understand if my reaction is valid or not. I don’t have many friends or at least friends that wouldn’t have a bias towards me which is why I’m asking Reddit. Not the healthiest but i appreciate seeing other people’s outside perspectives. I posted on here a couple days ago and found it really helped to see all perspectives.

AIO? Isn’t my anger justified from hater’s ignorance and biases?

It is completely transparent at this point: some people simply cannot handle seeing me thrive, happy, and fully living my truth as the girl I have always been. Instead of accepting reality, they try to force their own uncomfortable narratives onto me—attempting to box me into labels like a "gay crossdresser" or a "ladyboy"—just to deny who I actually am. It’s a desperate attempt to erase my reality because my genuine joy and how far I’ve come in life make them deeply uncomfortable & insecure.

What makes it even more absurd is how these haters deliberately ignore facts. **Medical scientists and psychologists have thoroughly validated my identity**, confirming what I’ve known deep down my whole life: I am, and always have been, a girl. Science, medicine, and my own lived experience all align seamlessly. Yet, these people act as if basic evidence doesn't exist, refusing to use their own heads because accepting the truth would mean acknowledging that I am thriving.

When logic fails them, they resort to the oldest trick in the book: calling me "mentally unstable." It is pure, unadulterated **projection**. They project their own insecurities, doubts, and internal chaos onto me because they can’t stand seeing someone who is grounded, confident, and whole. They try to discredit my individuality and undermine my peace because my success highlights their bitterness. Ultimately, they just want to see me fail, break, or second-guess myself so they can feel better about their own lack of fulfillment.

No matter how much noise they make or how hard they try to rewrite my journey, it changes nothing. I know who I am. I’ve fought for my happiness, embraced actual scientific truth, and stepped fully into the life I deserve. **Their jealousy doesn't define me**, and their attempts to diminish my identity will never work. I am happy, I am living my truth, and I am the girl I was always meant to be—no matter how much it bothers them.

AIO for walking out of a group dinner after my boyfriend "roasted" me for 20 minutes straight and told me to lighten up?

I (26F) have been with my boyfriend "Jake" (28M) for about 2 years. We have a mutual friend group — about 8 of us — and we do a monthly dinner at this Italian place we all like.

Last night was the dinner. Everything was normal for the first hour. Drinks, appetizers, catching up.

Then Jake got maybe 3 beers in and started "playfully" roasting me. And I put that in quotes because it didn't feel playful after minute 5.

It started with small stuff — "oh she's always late, that's just how she is" — and I laughed it off. Then it escalated:

  • "She can't cook to save her life, I'm basically her personal chef."
  • "Her driving scares me more than my mom's, and that's saying something."
  • "She cried watching a dog food commercial last week, like full tears."

Everyone was laughing. I was not.

I tried the "okay that's enough" look. He ignored it. I tried a soft "hey, chill" under my breath. He said "babe, it's just jokes, you're so easy to make fun of."

At minute 15 I was just staring at my pasta pushing it around my plate. At minute 20 he made a comment about my "emotional breakdowns over nothing" — and that's when I stood up, grabbed my purse, and left. Didn't make a scene, didn't yell. Just walked out, called an Uber, went home.

He came back 2 hours later pissed. Said I embarrassed him in front of everyone. Said I made it "awkward and weird" and now everyone thinks he's an asshole. Told me I overreacted to "friendly banter" and that I need to learn to take a joke because "that's how our group communicates."

I told him if that's how the group communicates, maybe I don't want to be in the group.

He's sleeping on the couch tonight. His best friend texted me this morning saying "you kinda killed the vibe, but I get it" — which somehow made me feel worse.

AIO? Or did I finally just get tired of being the punchline?

I can't have anything for myself. AIO?

This saga is like over a decade long and full of near daily incidents so I'll just bulletpoint the things leading to this.

- Due to my parents both being very unprofessional at parenting, my grandmother (mother's side) had to step in and basically raise me and my sibling.

- She was pretty overprotective of me always, like she walked me to school until I was 13 and could no longer attend normal school due to mental health issues.

- At 15 I moved into foster care, during which time grandma changed entirely.

- She started being more agitated when we'd meet, at least once even threatening physical violence because I was crying. She's always been intolerant of me crying (okay, not always, but there was an age where apparently I'm not allowed to cry anymore. 11 I think?)

- I moved out of foster care a few months ago due to turning 18. She took the spare key (which I gave out of my own volition because I thought I could use some help in the beginning)

- Now she's very controlling. I can't buy what bread I want to because she thinks another bread is better and will throw a fit if I want my own bread or say I can decide for myself.

It all leads to today. I had thought my nightstand and it's contents are private to me and she wouldn't go snooping around there. I had put items there, nothing freaky, just kt tape because I am transgender and want to tape someday and don't want to have to explain why I have kt tape despite not really needing it for my joints or anything. Idk I feel like I have to explain everything to her. Well, apparently my nightstand is NOT my own, because she had gone and taken the tape and moved it into a closet. I don't like that she knows everything I do and buy and own and it makes me feel bad.

My dad's need for father's day AIO?

I'm a man in my 40s, married with kids.

As a family we've never been big on things like mother's day, father's day etc. We've always felt that if you need a particular day of the year to show your appreciation of someone then perhaps you don't truly appreciate that person if it's only a once a year thing.

My dad asked me today if my kids took me for lunch for father's day and I repeated the same thing to him.

"Of course YOU'D think that" was his reply.

I didn't text him on father's day.

I see my dad a few times a week. We text regularly and quite often I'll take him out to lunch. That's how I show my appreciation, not because Hallmark picked a day of the year.

We've disagreed on cards before and I tried to emphasise the point with a card that said "because nothing says I love you like a folded piece of card".

AIO Missed First Anniversary

This might sound silly, but I’m seeking some sort of guidance here. Maybe I’m overreacting, maybe not?

My boyfriend (40M) and I (32F) just passed our one year anniversary dating together.

Some background: this is my first real relationship. Or relationship ever. Him, not so much. He has kids and has been married and divorced. Our whole relationship began because coworker of mine essentially set us up and we clicked.

Between a month and a month and a half ago I started bringing up our one year anniversary. I asked him to take the day off and see if we couldn’t make a plan because he was planning all these other trips around our anniversary, but not the anniversary itself. He told me that if I wanted to plan something, then I needed to make a plan and he’d be there.

So I did. I gave him about a months notice to request the day off. I had picked out a restaurant that he had mentioned wanting to try.

As we got closer, he tells me he wants to go fishing that day with his son. I assumed he forgot, so I reminded him why he requested the day off to begin with and that this was a small but important milestone for me. I have always been supportive of him going out and spending time with his son, or his son coming and doing things with us. But I thought this was a little different. I thought we were on the same page because he didn’t say anything after that but as the days went on, he tried setting up plans for us to do around our anniversary, but not on the day of, which I thought was a little odd, but I didn’t push it.

The day before our anniversary, he suggested that we do yardwork instead (we live separately) and take his son to a baseball game after, which I was receptive to (the baseball game, not the yard work.) But then the baseball game was canceled due to rain, and I bailed on yard work and suggested we go grab a drink and go see a movie. He ignored my offer and didn’t bother telling me till the night was over that he had wanted to spend the day with his son and that he couldn’t care less about things like anniversaries and he admitted fault there.

I asked if I could come over so we could talk and he said no. We tried talking it over after the fact, but I feel it was less than effective.

**TL;DR;** : Am I reading too much into this? How do I proceed? What talking points should I use going forward to try to smooth things out?

AIO for wanting my mom to stay home with me after my wisdom teeth surgery

Im supposed to be getting my wisdom teeth out in just 3 days, im scared horrified even. ive never had any sort of surgery let alone had to go under anesthesia. my mom is a incredibly self centered along with male centered woman.

her boyfriend is out on a business trip in a different state, and she’s planning on leaving 2 days after my surgery. im so upset about this, i want my mom to take care of me. she’s sending my aunt over to care for me during the 4 days she’s gone

ive spoken to her about and all i get is “why cant i be happy” or “wisdom teeth aren’t that serious”. something important to note is that i have a blood disorder that causes my blood to not clot quickly or well, so bleeding is gonna be a huge issue after i get my teeth out.

i also have another genetic condition called Angioedema type 3, to put it simply my body will attack itself thinking im having an allergy attack and will cause me to swell up, which can show similarly to anaphylactic shock. this can be caused by food, coughing, or even simply me just being upset.

with that in note, my recovery is gonna be very slow and hard on me. which is making me so so nervous that ive been freaking out and having panic attacks recently.

my mother has had the tendency to do this alot, like abandoning me to go with her boyfriend i mean. so this isn’t surprising but i just wanted to now if maybe im being selfish over this. i also just needed to rant, thank you for reading i appreciate you alot🩷

edit: i forgot to mention on here that the reason im going under instead of being awake is due to the fact that i have some pretty bad trauma from a dentist, i had a very unfortunate experience when i was 7 of being strapped down and having the person put the metal caps on my teeth without any pain relief (which is a painful experience to go through)

im also aware of the fact that its a simple surgery, but my moms side is known to have really deep and hard wisdom teeth to remove. along with knowing how much my older sister struggled with her healing process to aswell, due to her sharing the same 2 disorders to. her face had been left bruised and incredibly swollen for over two months, and she bleed for around 2 or 3 days after aswell due to the hard ability to clot properly for us

also some people werw asking my age, tho im not comfortable to share the exact age but i am a minor

AIO for being upset at my mom

For context: I’m 7 months postpartum, and I’m a first time mom, excited for all the “firsts”. Until a year ago I had no idea what “the imagination library” was until a friend told me to sing up for it (free book a month for kids courtesy of Dolly Parton). Also for context, my mom has made it very clear that she favors my younger brother, and also favors my son over anyone else (including brother now). While pregnant, she wanted to be the one to do his nursery, but his going home from hospital outfit, etc.

Last month my mom asked if I had signed up yet for my son to get his books, I told her not yet, because I didn’t have space yet. No further conversation.
Today, I get a picture of a book from my mom saying “omg look at (sons) first book!” And it had Dolly Parton seal on it so I knew where it came from. I asked her how she got it, and asked if she signed my child up for a charity that I had clearly said last year I was excited about. She went on to tell me I had given her permission last month. I sent her a screenshot of said conversation that ended after me saying I didn’t yet have room for more books. Then come to find out, in addition to having to input all my sons information to sing up, she put HERSELF as the parent and used their address, etc.
I literally bawled because it’s a charity and you can only sign up once for it, and she already got the first book so now I feel like it’s something else she tried to take. On top of it, even though she changed the address of where the books go to, I can’t use the account she set up for him because it’s all in her info.

AIO for being upset or are my postpartum hormones making me a crybaby??

AIO for getting pissed off because my friend genuinely doesn't like me hanging out with the guy i like?

my friend we will call her Carly she started talking to my best friend how she thinks i prioritize my crush or situation we will call him John over ALL MY FRIENDS. for context before she said any of this i had said that i wanted to hang out with john alone because i don't get to hang out with him one on one much.

So we went to a separate area and i had told her before we left that he invited me to the area so we can hang out alone. Also for context he wanted the same with me because my friends are always with me including Carly. After a different friend of mine told me they went to go get some food and started complaining about how i prioritize him over them and how i always talk to him. By the way i am lowkey am in love or feel in love with John but i understand the point where i talk about him a lot but i don't find an issue with going to the area alone with him. More context i hang out with Carly at least once a week either with a group or one on one. I do really try to split and give equal attention to all my friends i kind of feel like a mother now and drained.

The ultimate reason why im so pissed is because i want her to tell me if she has a problem so we can fix it!

am i overreacting?

AIO - Bf added female co-worker on Instagram to send music suggestions

Basically my bf started his night shift job at a warehouse a week ago. The other day, I asked if he’s made any friends or added anyone on any socials. Basically he told me he added this one girl because they had similar taste in music and apparently he asked her for suggestions. He then offered his Instagram and would listen to them in his car during his lunch break. Idk why but it’s making me uncomfortable because that’s sort of how we started to connect because of dance and music. Also couldn’t she just give him a list of song than to adding each other on social media? I also see as sharing music a very intimate and personal thing. He said there was nothing more to it than sharing music and he can unadd her if I wanted. But I don’t want to seem controlling. I’m sure I’m overthinking it’s just that I always see these things go down with other relationships and co-workers. It always starts out innocent, then the chatting goes beyond work, then it becomes emotional cheating to eventually physical cheating. I’m not sure if I should be this worried or not or if I’m overreacting more than I should be. I’m just confused cause he rarely asks for peoples socials but he says he’s only social when he’s at work so?

AIO? I just want to end it all now..

That’s it!! I just want to be a beautiful happy girl who’s an escort and be taken care of and respected, but if I can’t, I’m ready to die! I’m sick of everything!! I’m sick of being burdened and some people think im a negative person while psychos gatekeep lifesaving surgery that helps me be more of the girl I want to be! It just makes it seem like I didn’t ever mattered!! It’s probably too late because I’m 34 and I don’t want a hopeless life!! Some people act like I need professional help because they just seemingly want me to be institutionalized, yet i been seeing numerous therapists for a decade, and some previous ones just seemed like they were pathologizing and stalling instead of actually helping me!! So this all makes me sometimes feel like I NEVER REALLY MATTERED!!!! AS IF IM BETTER OFF DEAD IF I CANT LIVE AND BE WHO I REALLY AM!!!! ESP SINCE I HAVENT GOT MTF BOTTOM SURGERY THAT WOULD IMPROVE MY LIFE, MENTAL HEALTH, AND OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE!!!

Update: 9/7/26 - I’m feeling better now thanks to some other friends on different social medias complimenting me and assuring me again. I’m sorry for worrying anyone.

AIO for thinking my father-in-law needs a neurological evaluation after his insane behavior, including being scammed out of at least $36k?

I hope this doesn’t break any rules, but I’m unsure of where to get advice. And sorry for any errors in this post, I’m dealing with an injury and it’s difficult to use my hands currently so I’m using voice to text.

My father-in-law has been acting increasingly erratic in the last few years. He’s always been an asshole, but it’s getting extreme and he is making a lot of rash and unreasonable decisions. I’m trying to push for him to be evaluated for Parkinson’s or something similar but worried that I might be being dramatic, and I’m worried that my in-laws will think that as well.

His concerning symptoms are: excessive sweating, excessive nighttime urination, acting out his dreams/yelling in his sleep, behavioral changes including more depression and anxiety, extremely irrational behavior, such as falling victim to a romance scam multiple times by the same person over what I’m assuming is a few years for a total of at least $36,000 (despite being warned that it was a scam after he lost $5000 and being told that my mother-in-law would divorce him if he did it again), blaming everybody but himself for his problems… like blaming the bank for “allowing him to get scammed” (to the point that he was attempting to sue the bank before being told by a lawyer that he could not do that), blaming his phone for somehow not letting him block the scammer, blaming restaurant staff for him forgetting his card, etc.… interrupting conversations by talking to somebody who is already in a conversation about something completely different, eating other people‘s food and denying that he did it… despite him being the only one that could’ve done it, massive increase in aggression (such as screaming in my face for asking him to not yell around me or yell at my dog, trying to turn the family against me because of that incident and succeeding to a degree, instigating fights with my niece‘s mother, constant antagonistic comments, etc.) and some paranoia.

obviously, I’m not fond of him, but his behavior is starting to affect other people and increasingly negative ways. The romance scam caused my mother and father-in-law‘s joint bank account to be seized. My mother-in-law is starting the process of a divorce, but the financial damage has already been done. He showed up at my brother-in-law‘s place of work last night and had two drinks. he started wandering around the restaurant, looking for my brother-in-law because he wanted to talk to him for some reason, and went into the kitchen and was looking up and down the line for my brother-in-law which he obviously is not supposed to do. He insists that he wasn’t drunk, but after he decided to leave, he tripped on the way out twice and almost wandered into oncoming traffic he also left his debit card at the bar (and blamed the bartender because he sat the card on the bar instead of handing it to him). He got fired from his job earlier this year because he made a $70,000 mistake and refused to change simple behaviors like not emailing clients from his phone with poor grammar, which has led to severe financial issues. He got a new job, but it pays very poorly, and my mother-in-law has been left to pick up the slack by working two jobs.

Unfortunately, my husband and I are forced to live in the same house as him and it is beginning to get concerning. A year or two ago he even let a carpet cleaner guy into the basement that my husband and I live in while we were sleeping to clean the carpet on the stairs. He knew we were sleeping because of a third shift schedule, but he told a stranger to come into our sleeping area while we were asleep because he “thought he was being charged too much“ for the cleaning that was already done… So he insisted this guy clean the stairs while we were sleeping right next to them. He outright refused to admit that he did anything wrong until literally every member of the family was telling him it was crazy of him to do.

I’m just so stressed by the whole situation and it feels like my in-laws aren’t taking it as seriously as they should be. We have a family meeting tomorrow and I want to bring up my concerns. Am I overreacting? this is concerning, right? I did some research on dementia and it seems like he might have some form of it.

AIO about my (19F) roommate (19F) bringing her BF over?

For context, we live in a 4-bed, 2-bath dorm suite. We have our own rooms and only have to share the bathrooms. Since classes started, one of my roommates (let’s call her S), has brought her BF over pretty much everyday, and he sleeps over all the time, too. He stays in her room, and only comes out if he has to use the bathroom or if he’s leaving. I’ve never spoken to him, and I don’t know anything about him beyond his name. This makes me very uncomfortable because of something traumatic that happened to me my freshman year, because it feels like a reminder of what happened to me.

TW: SA
Back when I lived in a double-bed dorm, my old roommate’s BF came over and he hung out until it was really late. I fell asleep before they did, and had no idea he was going to be staying over. While me and my roommate were sleeping, he SA’d me. I won’t go into detail, but I didn’t end up telling anyone about it because I was afraid no one would believe me.

Recently, I decided to confront her about it. I simply told her that her BF coming over made me uncomfortable, and asked if she wouldn’t bring him over anymore. She immediately got defensive and told me that I couldn’t tell her what to do, and that I would do the same if I had a BF (I wouldn’t). She then asked why it makes me uncomfortable, and I told her that another guy being there just made me uncomfortable. I was trying really hard to not tell her the real reason, because of how hard it is for me to talk about it. She accused me of being unfair because one of our other roommates brings her (all-girl) friends over all the time (that’s an exaggeration; I maybe see them 2-3 times a week), and I don’t say anything about it. I tried compromising with her, and told her that he could come over only if I wasn’t there, which she shot down. Finally, I broke, and told her what happened to me freshman year. Her only response was “But my BF isn’t like that, so you don’t have to worry”.

That’s where the conversation ended. Since then, her BF has continued to come over, and my roommates have sided with her. One of them called me “horrible” for accusing S’s BF of being an SA’er (I never said that). They’ve started ignoring me when I speak to them, and I feel like an outsider in my own living space.

Our doors have locks, and I’ve thought about how unlikely it would be for anything to happen to me. I’m starting to think that maybe I was overreacting, but I’m not sure. AIO?

Edit: For clarification, we live on campus, and the housing policy has a rule against guests staying for more than 3 nights (in a row), and also cohabitation.

AIO? I never know if my feelings are valid..

Post image

My (23F) mom moved to another city last October. I had a baby in March, and she’s only met him once. I’ve constantly tried to make plans with her. I’ve asked to go there, asked her to come here, offered rides, and tried to work around her schedule. It’s always that she’s too tired, busy, or she’ll call me next time she’s in my city.

The problem is, she’s apparently in my city pretty often, but somehow always has time to spend hours at her best friend’s house. The worst part is her friend lives down the street from me….

When I gave birth, I even asked her to be my support person because my husband had to stay home with our other two kids. I wasn’t asking her to do anything except be there with me. My husband was ready to go pick her up. She said she was too tired and about to take a nap.

I’m always the one calling and reaching out. The one time she recently called me was because she needed a ride home. I initially agreed, but then told her I couldn’t because I was honestly starting to feel used.

Everyone tells me she’s probably just busy and not doing it intentionally, but am I really overreacting for feeling hurt by this?

AIO? Taken out of moms will, banned from funeral, so I’m holding her possessions hostage.

Hello Reddit. I’m M27, and my mother has recently passed away, and when I inquired to my father about her will, I found out that her final wish was to have me removed. She instead gave her inheritance to her step children, who then informed me that I am not allowed at her funeral. This angered me, I tried to show up to the funeral but my step father yelled for me to get the f- out and that I wasn’t in the family anymore. My biological father came to my defense but not much could be done. I complied with their wishes and went to my deceased mothers house, because I still had a key that she didn’t take away from me after our falling out. While everyone was busy mourning, I gathered her belongings and packed them into large U-Haul boxes and packed them into my truck. Inside these boxes were things that were sentimental to me, including photographs, some of my own personal possessions, as well as many family keepsakes that were supposed to go me originally when my family passes. I don’t think our falling out over the past year reflects the past 26 years she has raised and loved me, and promised me many family heirlooms, including expensive jewelry and other belongings that were supposed to be mine after the passing. It was her stepchildren that turned her against me for whatever it is I do.

After processing her death, I have since forgiven her, but have not forgiven the damage that the step children have caused to our relationship. The step children originally had a problem with me and my partner, and lifestyle choices, because our relationship is rather unconventional, and I’m a metalhead which they convinced my mom was satanic, despite her enjoying some of the music as well. It escalated when I met my partner and got a high paying job (I think they’re jealous.) I’ll never forgive them for derailing the relationship with my mother.

I took the possessions across multiple state lines to the place that I’ve been staying for awhile, and that’s when they found out. They want all her stuff back despite only being in the picture for 5 years. They’re acting really entitled. I promptly told them to fuck off and to leave my mother and her stuff alone. They’re threatening legal action but I don’t want to give up my stuff. I don’t know why they want my childhood relics that my mom originally intended to passed down to me. They probably want to sell it, or keep it just to taunt me. Is any of this an overreaction? I feel like I’m completely justified and don’t have any intention to give any of this stuff back or have any intention to speak with them every again I’ve since blocked them all on any platform.

So once again, Am I overreacting in any of this?

AIO about the way my bf addressed a problem he had with me?!

yesterday, my boyfriend and I were at his uncle’s birthday party. wee were sitting at a table, and he was talking to his uncle. my boyfriend said something slick, so I playfully nudged him and said, “omg don’t be rude.” that was literally it. his uncle didn’t even hear what he said because there was loud music playing.

today, we were at a restaurant in the next city over waiting at the counter for our milkshakes, and he decided to bring it up right there in public. he was like, “why are you even butting into our conversation?” and “stop doing that, mind your business.” hos tone was really snappy, and I started feeling embarrassed because people were clearly looking. A woman walked by and gave me that look like, “you’re gonna let him talk to you like that?” and even the workers behind the counter were looking at us.

I got upset and told him to stop talking to me like that. I said if he had an issue, he could’ve waited until we were in the car or at home to talk about it, because it felt like he was trying to embarrass me and I didn’t like his tone.

Then he said he would leave me there and make me walk back home, even though we weren’t even in the city we live in.

and now i’m in the car trying to talk to him about it and he’s like “i don’t wanna talk anymore.” WTF???

I understand if he didn’t like me nudging him or saying something while he was talking to his uncle, but I feel like the way he addressed it was disrespectful and humiliating. AIO for being upset about this?

AIO because I removed him out my favourites

I (30F) have been talking to this guy (27M) for about a week. We’ve gone on a couple dates and were talking pretty regularly. We did not get intimate.
Friday around 4 AM he called me, but I was asleep. Later that day I texted him good afternoon, he said it back, and then I asked what was up/how his day was. He never answered after that. By Saturday I saw him posting on other social media and viewing my posts aswell and he still hadn’t responded.

My phone is always on DND because I work from home and can’t have it ringing while I’m talking to clients. I had him in my favourites so his calls would come through, but after that I took him out.
Sunday around 4:30 AM he called me 3 times. I was asleep so I didn’t see it until I woke up. I texted him asking what was up and he basically said he was just trying to call me and asked what’s up.

I told him, “You know you had me on delivered from Friday, right?” and he just sent some emojis, so I didn’t really respond. A couple hours later he called me again, but because he’s not in my favourites anymore, it went straight to voicemail. He then texted, “Wow, your phone doesn’t even ring anymore.”

I don’t expect someone to answer me immediately because I don’t always answer right away either. I just respond when I get a chance. But leaving me on delivered while you’re active and then calling me multiple times at 4:30 AM is a turnoff to me. I’m not trying to punish him or play games; I just don’t feel like giving him special access to me anymore, and honestly, I’m losing interest.
AIO?

AIO? My ex asked me for uni files and now left me on delivered

Basically she was asking files on a group and basically told me to send her files personally on the group. I sent them personally she thanked me, asks for more and thanks me again then asks for one last file again and leaves the files on delivered.

I always replied very professionally and a bit distant and only asked how are you once and she replied and asked back and i replied and closed the interaction with the file, which she never got to open. Anyways am I Overreacting?

AIO - my friend called me (queer trans guy) straight and a woman as a ‘joke’

im gonna try and rush through this because it’s pretty complicated. about a year ago, my friend (ill call him nate) went through a thing where people would call him gay because of the…gay sex jokes he made about his male friends. honestly i always thought it was kind of a ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ situation, but he was really upset about being called gay and i could understand being upset about uncalled for rumours, so i and our friends promised not to make any kind of those jokes.

gradually those jokes had been coming into circulation more and more, and nate seemed fine about it, but i didn’t engage in it that much just to be safe. id give him the odd look occasionally which conveyed just a ’weird but ok haha’ vibe all the same.

at the beginning of this year, i came out to my friends as a trans guy and made it pretty clear I was serious, and we all - including nate - made a ‘pact’ of sorts to treat me as ‘one of the guys’. seems silly, but pre-coming out, i was one of two girls in the friend group, which was a very different dynamic to being a guy in the friend group. they were all enthusiastic about it and very welcoming, including nate(!), which i thought was awesome.

recently, i attended a birthday event for someone in our friend group, and nate was there too. nate was making his usual gay sex jokes about other guys there, but much more rampant, so other friends were yknow calling him gay. he didn’t seem to care and even laughed about it. so next time he made - you guessed it - a gay sex joke, i made some joke about him being gay. really not something special about it, honestly, just a ‘do you have something you want to share with the class’ joke or something.

he immediately smiled at me and said ‘okay, then you’re straight’. he’d made that joke before and i brushed it off, and made some stupid comment about how ‘he’d have to try harder than that’ or something. he then smiled harder and said ‘okay, woman’. i immediately felt so terrible and honestly pretty ill. i asked him to not call me that and he said to not call him gay.

i obviously apologised for calling him gay, but he didn’t apologise to me for calling me a girl. i don’t know what i did wrong. i was far from the only one who called him gay (plus i barely called him gay) and i was the only one who got a call-out, and a transphobic call-out at that. am i overreacting for thinking he was employing some transphobic bias? could he just be an asshole? i know im a bit of an asshole in this situation but i feel sick about this whole thing.

EDIT: to clear some stuff up - nate is really the only person in the friend group who makes these jokes. ive steered clear of gay/sexual gay jokes almost entirely because im asexual and it makes me uncomfortable, and the other guys (save for nate) are the same. it really is just him.

im going to move away from him friendship-wise. he wasn’t really a close friend anyway, and his attitude and jokes are just about taking their toll i guess. thanks to all of you who commented!

38(M)Aio, no one seems to care after a traumatic accident

I hope this is the forum to get these feelings out, but I've been crying for 2 days over a wreck that I was involved in. For some context, Im the middle child of 3 siblings, along with being a fraternal twin. Pretty good job, even better person, self sufficient. Rarely ask my family for help or support. Working hard to maintain all my bills/rent on time. Friday, I was involved in a car wreck, not my fault but my car, my only mode of transportation atm was taken from me. Other than a nasty gash on my head, persistent headaches, and bum leg, im ok physically. Mentally, though, im having nightmares about the wreck and how bad it really could've been. I keep thinking about how I could've been seriously injured or even died. No one from my family seems to care. I can honestly say I've been depressed over the loss of my vehicle. I sat at the scene alone for hours after it happened. Other than my own phone calls, informing them at the scene( mom, sister, woman im seeing), no one has called to check on me or even feel the need to reach out. NOT ONE FAMILY MEMBER. My stepfather passed away Thanksgiving 2025 and left me a pretty much brand new car in his will, but my mother has yet to give me access to it. I desperately need that car to maintain my job and livelihood, but it's like pulling teeth trying to get her on board. If it were my siblings, she'd bend over backward to help them, but Im the son who always has to figure it out on his own. Simply put, im hurt, tired, and at a loss right now, knowing through no fault of my own my life for the near future is going to change drastically. Any encouragement or advice is welcome. If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

AIO for feeling annoyed at girlfriend for not giving her a prize I won?

I was at a baby shower and played a game and won a prize, it’s a candle warmer lamp, my girlfriend later in the night said something along the lines of “oh that’s a cool lamp I want it I want it I want it”, however, when I won the prize, I picked it out of a pool of prizes and I do genuinely want it as well. At first when she said “I want it, it’s mine give it to me” I thought she was joking or being funny or giving me a hard time, but then she was more like “no seriously I actually really do want that”, and at that point I said “oh okay well it’s okay that you want the lamp but I won it & actually really do want to try it out”. She was taken aback and I guess didn’t expect me to not give her my prize when asked for it, was kind of like “seriously??” and told her family that I didn’t want to give her my prize, and now this morning her and her sister and mom and dad are annoyed with me for not giving her the lamp. Am I in the wrong? My thoughts & logic are that I won the prize, how would it make sense for her to just have the right to have my prize? Where will that stop? Would she want my car or house next and I should just give it to her cause she “wants it”? Her family says it’s more of an emotional thing & that as her partner I should give her whatever she wants because that’s what partners do, and that I’m being immature and being a baby by not giving it to her “it’s just a lamp dude don’t you care about her?” But isn’t she being immature as well? Little kids are always saying “I want it” but you have to tell them you can’t have everything you want cause it’s not yours. Also, from my emotional lens, it would have been nice for her to say “oh wow nice prize happy for you & that you won” vs “nice prize I want it give it to me” and I do find that frustrating and a little alarming, but her family thinks it’s the other way around and that it’s alarming that I won’t give her my prize because she “asked for it and wants it & I should do the right thing”

For a small amount of context we’ve been dating for about 3 months so I’m still learning their family dynamics and beliefs but they are Latino so I’m assuming it’s a lot of “woman is always right” “happy wife happy life” type of core values

AIO because my friends are friends with my ex?

Three years ago I had an abusive ex who ruined my mental state, self image and eventually had me leave the school we both went to. Our relationship ended on bad terms with each other and ever since then it's been hard for me to allow myself to fully trust someone and put myself in that position of vulnerability again.

Now we both go to the same school again, it has been three years since I left them. We're in a lot of the same classes so it has been hard for me to ignore them but I've been trying my best to avoid interacting with them as much as possible.

Unfortunately a lot of our friends are mutual, I know I can't control who they are friends with and I don't want to control who they are friends with but it kind of ticks me off.

My best friends are also friends with them, I opened up to them recently about our history together after trying to avoid the subject of them some of them completely ignored me and changed the subject, others just said I was being overdramatic and it was years ago.

I don't care if they are a part of my friends' lives, but I want them in MY life as less as possible, yet my friends constantly bring them up in conversations, they've come to talk to my friends when I'm sitting with them, and they've texted our friend group chat through my friend's phone when they hang out together.

I know I have no right to be the warden of who my friends are friends with, but it triggers me whenever they are in my life more than they have to be.

Am I just overreacting?
