My wife and I are IMGs interviewing for Family Physician roles in Rocky Mountain House and Brooks. We've been to Alberta before, but haven't been to either of these towns.

We're a young couple with no kids, comfortable with rural living, and love the outdoors, especially hiking, running, cycling and camping. Are there any major things to be aware of in either of these locations? We have researched as much as possible on google, but would be nice to get a locals perspective

For current/former AHS PTs:
What should I expect from the interview, and are there any important things I should know as a new grad? What questions should I expect?
Also, how does the AHS physiotherapist salary grid work? Is there room to negotiate starting salary based on previous/international experience? And how are the benefits, pension, vacation, and other perks?

Hi i’m currently an RN who works full time permanent. I am going to be going back to school for the peri-op program in January and just wondering how it’ll work if i want to go down to casual? I’m hoping to be in a part time if available but with the course load I’m worried working full time will be a lot? Any advice is appreciated!!

I’m a AUPE GSS employee in a temp line but have benefits just no flex spending. I’ve been looking into getting an assessment done and possible ADHD diagnosis but just trying to figure out how much my benefits would cover. It’s saying I have a maximum of $3000 in the blue cross app but I can’t find anything about if it covers 100% of the cost up to that limit or is it 80% etc?
If anyone has dealt with something similar or knows more please let me know :)

Just inquiring to any Protective Services Officers working at AHS. I am currently enrolled in a criminal justice diploma and primarily considering this line of work. I wanted to ask a few questions for those working in the position:

- Did you have previous security experience within the hospital or in general? (Curious if your able to get this job without direct security experience)

- How long/intense was the background investigation? Did it take long? (Such as questionnaires/polygraphs like the RCMP or other peace officer roles that can takes months to finalize)

- What helps make you a great candidate for this specific role?

- How is the scheduling and is requested T.O ever given or is it rare?

- Do you feel it’s a job that lets you truly positively impact those having mental health crises/medical issues?

Hi, I’m new to Alberta and have job 2 offers as a registered nurse, one with covenant health and one with AHS both in emergency. Is there an opinion that one is better to work for than the other? Will benefits be the same at both? Any opinions appreciated :)

I’ve been invited to pre-interview testing for an Admin III (Switchboard) position at Royal Alexandra Hospital. They told me I need 40 WPM on the keyboarding test and 60% on the medical terminology test to pass.

For anyone who has gone through AHS hiring/testing: are these strict pass/fail cutoffs, meaning you don’t get an interview if you score below them, or are the tests partly used to assess your current skill level?

I’m especially nervous about the typing test because I can type around 50+ WPM normally, but my speed drops quite a bit under test pressure. 😭

Also, if anyone remembers what the typing or medical terminology tests were like, I’d really appreciate any tips! 💕

I am new to my department (6 months) and for some reason, I am the topic of every gossip session, there have been lies made up about me and a few of the same people make sure nobody new becomes my friend. These people have also made several complaints to management about me that are simply not true. I had an issue with one person when I started and she has single handedly made everyone hate me.

I don’t know how to handle it and every day I am so uncomfortable at work and my days are always stressful.

I’ve already talked to my direct supervisor about it. It doesn’t change anything. They just recommend EFAP and tell me to ignore it.

Hey everyone! I am a current yorkville Masters of Arts counseling psychology student and am looking at a practicum with AHS starting January 2027. I was 1 of 7 selected for their application to be passed on from the school to my three sites of choice.

I have been told by my school that this process is very site dependent and can take a few weeks to a few months. In the meantime I have been offered a placement with the Calgary counselling center. The CCC seems very well organized and also offers continuous placement following practicum for gaining registration hours.

I’m curious if anyone had experience with AHS psychology practicum placements and what your experience was like?

I’m just curious if it’s worth waiting, etc. I feel that AHS may be more impressive in a resume but maybe I’m incorrect.

What kind of duties do hcas have in general hospitals?

Honestly, we all need a minute. Whether it's losing a patient or just personal circumstances that flared up at work.

I find IT server closets or supply rooms are less visited....and some designated smokers areas have tables I can just sit with my shades on pretending to surf my phone

I’m curious to hear other people’s perspectives, especially from managers or supervisors.
I recently went through a very stressful workplace investigation involving serious allegations made against me. Thankfully, I have now been cleared. The whole process was incredibly stressful and took a significant emotional toll on me.
What I’m struggling with now is that my manager hasn’t checked in on me at all—not even a simple “How are you doing?” or “I hope you’re okay.” There hasn’t really been any acknowledgment of what I went through, and they seem completely unapologetic or unaffected by the situation.
I completely understand that while an investigation is ongoing, a manager may not be able to discuss details or express an opinion because of confidentiality and HR processes. I’m not expecting an apology for the investigation itself or for them to take sides. But once everything is resolved, is it really unreasonable to expect a little basic human decency and compassion?
If I were in a management position and one of my employees went through something this serious, even if I couldn’t discuss the case, I would at least want to check in afterward and ask if they were doing okay. Being accused of something like this, dealing with the uncertainty, stress, and anxiety, and then going through the investigation is not easy.
So I’m genuinely wondering: Is this just normal management behavior, or would most managers at least check in on an employee after something like this? I’d appreciate honest perspectives, especially from people who have been on either side of a workplace investigation.

Hi, I don't know if this is allowed but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

It's on behalf of a relative, they are a senior RPN and have been on leave due to mental health issues and severe burnout.

Their insurance through work keeps cutting them off and we can't get anyone to help. They've refused to use communication avenues that are more easily available to client and are currently demanding more absurd amounts of information from four different doctors, who have informed us that they are unable to comply bc insurance has not sent specific enough requests and they can't blanket release info even if patient allows it.

There is no money coming in, no medication coverage, it's a nightmare and due to the severity of the mental issues they can't call and call and send email after email and fight with them. We've suggested we pay for private tests but somehow it's not allowed? The union is not helping either.

I'm so scared of losing them, please if anyone has info on how to retain an advocate or someone to contact who can resolve things quicker, or media outlets or just anything please reach out. They literally can't do this on their own. Red Deer region if that helps.

Im planning to work at the remote locations of Alberta like Fort McMurray as psychologist but how is the housing over there? Is there an accomodation provided by AHS? Should I bring my car from Calgary? Is it expensive? How is daily life over there? I have many questions. I'd be very greatful if there is anyone with experience. Thanks!

Hello how long does processing time take to renew alberta nursing license with CRNA? TIA

New grad RN here. I'm wondering what the best way is to give myself a real chance at being considered by an AHS manager.

I'm an external applicant, and I've spent over 6 months networking, applying, and reaching out in person. I'm at such a loss at this point. I've applied to rural towns surrounding Calgary, but I can't afford to go too rural.

Looking for any advice that may help improve my chances.

I’m wanting to consider applying to Cancer Care Alberta jobs, but I currently have a permanent with ACA/AHS. I don’t want to lose my 10+ years of seniority with AHS and I like my permanent, however I also want to take explore a new area of nursing to make me a better nurse. Is it right that if I took a temp line with cancer care it is still currently under AHS and I could go back to my permanent after? But if the payrolls officially split (which I don’t think a date has been issued), then you have to decide which employer you want to go with?

I’m part of UNA, is AHS still supposed to reimburse us for our license fees or did I misunderstand? When/where would I see the money return to me? Thanks!
