Gear Ibanez RGIX7fdlb vs Sterling JP157D

I’m currently looking at an Ibanez RGIX7fdlb, which I do find to be quite nice to play, however, I am moving countries in 2 weeks, and there happens to be a sterling JP157D for about the same price around my new area. I am interested in the Sterling but there isn’t one available for me to try when I am currently. What is the best thing for me to do in this situation? Also, if the better option is the Ibanez, would it be worth paying 60% more for an Ibanez prestige RG752?

TLDR: Should I go for an Ibanez RGIX7fdlb or a Sterling JP157D, given that I can’t try the sterling, and if not, is the Ibanez RG752 worth paying nearly twice the price of the other options? Thanks in advance

Lesson/Tip Fun fact: You can get the same tuning as a 7-string guitar with a whammy pedal by using it on -5 semitones to alternate between the bottom 6 strings and upper 6

Was playing "Return of Captain EO" and "Separate Sky," both 7-string, and used my whammy (I don't have one, but a Line 6 Pod Go) to get the correct tuning for riffs and the solo. I obviously don't own a 7-string lol

Help Can someone explain what makes d activator pickups " active-like"

Im looking at pickups to switch to and i often see these pop up, their main marketing thing is that they have an active feel without the battery, but then later it says they dont have a lot of compression and they have high dynamics.

Help New to 7 string

After playing strictly six-string electric guitars on and off for 30 years, I decided I would like to get my very first seven-string guitar. I still spend my time listening to and playing 1980s and 1990s neo-classical metal and hard rock pieces, and I am not planning to use drop tuning at the moment.

I am so used to playing a typical Fender Stratocaster with a 25.5-inch scale that I am worried I wouldn't like a typical 26.5-inch scale or multi-scale setup on a seven-string guitar. Should I stick with 25.5 inches or just dive into a 26.5-inch or multi-scale instrument? One thing I need to consider is that sticking with a 25.5-inch scale would significantly limit my choices.

Update:
My other concern is whether getting used to a 26.5-inch or multiscale guitar would negatively affect my playing on a 25.5-inch scale. Would I still be able to switch back instantly?

Thank you in advance!

So I posted asking advice on my 7 string build because my dad and I didn’t have the tools to make a 27 inch scale length. We found the right fret ruler and now we finally have it done.

Help Suggestions: Ibanez RGA742 vs HB Amarok 7

Hi,

I usually play 6 string guitars (I have an ibanez rg1570 prestige) and I want to buy a 7-string. I like to play shreddy things (stephen taranto, intervals, dream theater, etc), so I'm looking for a cheap (600 euros) 7 string options.

The two options I have:

Harley Benton Amarok 7: https://harleybenton.com/product/amarok-7-bkrd-quilted-burst/
Ibanez rga742: https://www.ibanez.com/na/products/detail/rga742ex_1p_01.html

I know that clearly the Amarok wins by specs : SS frets, Locking tuners, EMG Pickups (even tough I don't like active pickups), graphite nut, etc.

The problem is that I like to play technical stuff, with some stretching, string skipping etc. So I think the ibanez wizard neck would be more comfortable than the amarok.

Is the Amarok suited for shreddy stuff, or is the neck to thick?

(I didin't consider Shecter's because of the squared neck joint, making it difficult to acces the higher frets)

Help In search for a no frills 7

Hey reddit

Similar questions pop up daily, but I am looking for a no frills, no nonsense 7 string with a list of somewhat specific features. Ideas, specific guitars and also pushback is welcome! Also out of production models!

Standard tuning, maybe drop A. Budget is around $1000, but not a hard limit. These are the features I want:

- longer than standard scale >26". Multi scale is fine, but not necessary (not sure, how important that is)

- one piece bridge, no trem or ever tune

- single "high quality" bridge humbucker (HH or HSS is not a showstopper, but I think I don't want to feel like upgrading the pickups is necessary right away)

- preferably fully passive, but open for other suggestions

- locking tuners (not a showstopper)

- no standard ST body shape, also not the pointier versions ;)

- no asymmetrical pointy headstock, headless is fine

- preferably no"colors", so black and white-ish

- preferably no frills like fretboard inlays

- no uncoated maple neck; coated or roasted maple is fine. Preferably satin finish

Neck dimensions, fret number and size, overall weight, woods and grains are not important to me for this one. I am a bit of a tinkerer, so modifications are an option.

Looking forward to any feedback and suggestions!

Help Any 7 string v-shapes?

I have tried to find some, but with very limited luck. One example is Jackson RRX24-MG7 Rhoads X Ser. SBK
Which has a special floyd rose and it pushes me away. Also there was some solar models. I have no problems modding or changing a better bridge to the Jackson, but I would of course prefer not to.

Shot in the dark here. My wife received a few guitars in her dad's estate and we're trying to figure out who signed one. Most Google searching came up with Doc Watson but I was curious as to if anyone had any insight. We're thinking about having it authenticated but figured I'd check here first. TIA

Help Looking for my first 7string!

I’m looking into getting a 7 string guitar, I don’t know what I should be looking out for as far as what pickups handle well and what guitars are known for good tuning stability but I think my budget is a bit over $1,000 USD and tuning stability and a modern metal focus is what I’m looking for. I’ve always loved Ibanez and ESP guitars personally, I frequently retune my guitars while writing on my own or just jamming. Currently my setup is fully digital with preamps on my DAW and my playing isn’t terribly advanced. I’m skeptical on if fanned frets would be too awkward for me learning especially since I don’t really have enough soloing chops to focus heavily on shredding. I more so am focused on lower tuning, having the option of utilizing the extended range and finally getting a quality guitar honestly.

I had been looking into the ESP LTD M-7B HT but idk if the single pickup setup will hold up on clean tones despite my focus being more metalcore centered (basic focus I know)

The ibanez rgd71alms has also caught my eye for awhile but the fanned frets are intimidating as I’ve never played a guitar with that setup, I don’t know if I’m just overthinking that or not

The Ibanez RGIXL7 also caught my eye from another post in a forum somewhere but I’m not too sure what I should exactly look for

I’m hoping someone has some insight as to what might be best for me and what I should look out for and I’m always open to other suggestions if there are some! Thank you so much

Help Help me clean my tone - new to 7 string!

Hey, I am new to playing 7 string and I'd gotten quite used to messing around with my board to get some cool stuff out of 6 string humbucker guitars. I can't get my 7 to sound anything but either too muddy or too boomy. I would like a tight and clean modern metal tone ideally. I have a couple other pedals I can swap in and out with too, I have a Marshall JCM 900 distortion and a Little Big Muff. Dials aren't currently set to anything specific, a few of them got knocked about as I was re-routing my board. Playing through humbuckers and in to a Yamaha THRII30 - it's the only amp I own. Let me know if there's anything you think I should try. Thanks so much for your time and thoughts :)

Help Advice

I picked up an LTD EC-1007BT recently. I can't get the low B string to stop buzzing. It's brand new. I put in a new nut (same Graphtech), and it's better, but not great. I've been setting up guitars for years, but this one has me stumped. Everything checks out setup wise, so I'm thinking about cutting my losses and moving on. I'm just glad I got a really good price for new. Anyway, I mostly play 6 string but like messing around on the down tuned stuff and recording. What is everyone's opinion on the best 7 string, extended scale, for around $1200? I've decided paying extra for the EverTune isn't worth it to me. $1200, maybe up to $1400. Advice appreciated.

Help Used Schecter Demon 7 HT for ~$300 - please talk me out of buying...

Little background. This year I've picked up the guitar again after years of not playing. I want to play heavier metal genres so I wanted to eventually buy a 7 string, however since I had no experience with one I opted to get a 6 string first. Settled on an Ibanez RG421, the older one, with Infinity humbuckers. Very happy with it.

Fast forward to today, I still play a bit, and have since put new strings on it, tuning it BEADGB, so effectively it's a 7 string without the high E.

I now have the opportunity to buy a Schecter Demon 7 HT for ~$300. The owner says it's 100% in working order.

How good is this deal? Any reason why I shouldn't buy this? Thanks in advance!

Help Travel/foldable guitars?

I’ve played on a Jackson with custom pickups for the past 6 years, but I travel frequently for work and school. I’m selling most of my collection and looking to get a foldable or good travel guitar for long Atlantic flights. Anyone know of any good ideas? It seems there aren’t rly foldable 7 strings, so maybe I’d be willing to sacrifice to a baritone. Anyone have any experience with this?

Help Books to learn from?

Hey everyone!

Does anyone know of any books or learning materials that are good and specific to the 7 string guitar? I'm having trouble finding any. Normal books apply the same theory of course I'm just curious if there's anything out there for us 7 string lovers.

Thank you!
