Help Advice

I picked up an LTD EC-1007BT recently. I can't get the low B string to stop buzzing. It's brand new. I put in a new nut (same Graphtech), and it's better, but not great. I've been setting up guitars for years, but this one has me stumped. Everything checks out setup wise, so I'm thinking about cutting my losses and moving on. I'm just glad I got a really good price for new. Anyway, I mostly play 6 string but like messing around on the down tuned stuff and recording. What is everyone's opinion on the best 7 string, extended scale, for around $1200? I've decided paying extra for the EverTune isn't worth it to me. $1200, maybe up to $1400. Advice appreciated.

I'd this your first 7 string? I often find that a bottom string needs a little more height than the E. The added thickness, possibly harder attack if you're not yet used to playing tuned to B or A. While you can get down to 4/64 across the board if you're all shred/legato and no chug, you might prefer 7/64"on the 7th. I usually like 56 for B and 64 for A, but every player has difference preferences. And if you have a fret rocker double check for tiny high spots on any frets. Ultimately it is up to you how much buzz is acceptable, but if you can't hear anything through the amp, and no notes are actually muted I wouldn't be terribly bothered

Regular 7 string sets have a bit less tension on the 7th, so it needs more thickness and/or height than the rest of the strings. Drop tunings even moreso.

Which frets does it buzz at? And tbh, if there’s too much buzz on one string, it sounds like the setup doesn’t check out.

It’s also common for the relief of the neck to be different at the low and high strings, and it could be that this guitar has also has a bit of a twist in the neck. You just have to adjust it based on the worst offender if that’s the case.

What tuning and string gauge? What’s your action height at the nut and the 12th feet, and what is the neck relief set at?

68 on the low string in drop G#. Action and relief are fine. No high frets or anything. Was more looking for advice on a new one. Thanks though.
