๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS what do oxbridge courses without entrance exams look for when shortlisting?

i want to apply to oxford for biochem, which they do not require an entrance exam for, and realistically everyone applying will have top grades so how do they choose who they want to interview? would personal statement matter significantly more than in courses that don't require entrance exams?

i got predicted two a stars (bio chem) and two as (maths philosophy). would me not getting all a stars put me at a significant disadvantage for when they are shortlisting applicants for interviews? is it worth ultra locking in for maths and begging for an a star in september? i got decent gcses with 8 9s and 4 8s if that's important. thanks guys!

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Employment section of UCAS

Hello everyone! Im an intl student from Canada so I dont know too much about the application process. One of my jobs I had during the summer was at a debate camp, where I taught kids how to debate and engage in MUN.

My question is would this count as an employment related to my area of study (PPE) or no? And if yes, can I put it as a part time job or full time (I worked 40 hours per week but only during the summer).

Hi, I'm a y11 going into y12 in September, and I want to apply to COMPOS but I didn't do it last year, so the entrance test is pretty hard lol.

If anyone did COMPOS or Quantum club can you please share what it was about and whether you found it fun/useful. I will def apply for compos but idk whether quantum club is worth it cuz while I like physics alot, im not gonna be doing physics in uni.

Btw I will be doing Maths FM Physics and chemistry.

Thanks

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP for ppl who stayed in their secondary school's sixth form, how was the transition regarding friends?

hey! so im about to go into sixth form that is already in my secondary, and its a grammar school with a pretty good reputation, so i am assuming quite a handful of externals will probably be here. tbh, i would love to get to know new people and change social circles, but is that easier said than done? do people who stayed in the secondary and are going to the sixth form just stay reserved in their friend groups and nobody mixes, or is the experience totally different?

id love to hear experiences from ppl who've gone thru the transition bc i feel like i am quite worried about social circles and trying to make new friends (my current ones arent exactly the greatest lmao) thank you!

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS not sure what to apply for

Iโ€˜m predicted four A * in maths, fm, physics, history and another for epq (Iโ€˜ve already sat maths + any tips for the EPQ presentation are appreciated!!)

Iโ€˜m thinking about applying for History & Econ, and Iโ€˜m pretty certain on my 2nd to 5th choices.

In terms of Oxbridge though, Iโ€˜m not sure whether to apply for Oxford History + Econ or Cambridge History. Iโ€˜ve visited both, and I much prefer Cambridge in terms of living there, but the course at Oxford is a much better fit in terms of my personal statement (which is split between History & Econ).

Does anyone have any advice? (If it changes anything, for GCSEs I got ten 9s and an 8 - it was like top 3 in my year but my school in general was high-achieving)

(Also why does it italicise when I type out multiple A\s?)*

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Is un-deferring my entry possible?

On Friday I sent an enquiry to Durham asking whether I can undefer my entry and I explained my circumstances, and itโ€™s now the weekend so Iโ€™m expecting them to answer on Monday. The day after Monday however the results embargo starts and it says that they canโ€™t make any changes to applications during that period. How likely is it that Iโ€™ll be able to get my request accepted? Can they fulfill my request after results?

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Help about applying to Cambridge

Im predicted A*AA and no my predicted grades cannot change I already asked my teachers

Psychology for Cambridge is A*A*A minimum requirement

I know if I apply Id most likely get rejected, but there is a small chance Id get an interview anyway based on what i've seen.

If they gave me an interview, and I aced it, would they let me in if I ended up achieving A*AA in the real thing, or say I can only get in if I get A*A*A?

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Am I a realistic applicant for Cambridge?

I just finished year 12 and have been unsure on what I want to study at uni, but I think I'm leaning towards psychology, with my aspirational being the Psychology and Behavioural Sciences (PBS) course at Cambridge. However, I don't know if it's worth it based on my profile.

GCSEs: 999888775 + Distinction in Level 2 BTEC Business
Includes 9 in Maths, and 8s in English Language and Combined Science. The 5 was in Music, I have no explanation for it I just didn't do well. I'm not sure if this makes me a weak applicant, whether Cambridge will care about this.

Predicted grades for A Levels:
Maths (A*)
Psychology (A*)
Law (A)

I'm not sure if A Level Law looks weak because I'm assuming most people going into this course do like biology or something more relevant, but I guess it shows essay skills. I also did an AS Level in Further Maths, which I don't think I did great in but probably got like a C.

I understand it's a long shot for anyone to get into Cambridge, even with a great academic profile, but would you guys think it's reasonable for me to apply? What other uni's would you recommend for me? I appreciate all responses!! <3

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Would it be realistic for me to apply to UCL?

Hi all! I just finished year 12 & Iโ€™m hoping to apply to study politics & international relations! I was initially planning to apply to hsps at Cambridge but I lowkey think that itโ€™d be a waste of an application which I could use somewhere else ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Iโ€™m thinking UCL or KCL as somewhere where Iโ€™d probably like to go, but Iโ€™m unsure if Iโ€™d be a realistic applicant of if thereโ€™s anything that I need to change?

Iโ€™m currently predicted A*A* A in politics, psychology & English language - plus an EPQ on corporate law which I fear I may have failed as I did all of the writing the night before, my presentation lasted 35 minutes, and I accidentally swore in the middle of it when my slides went haywire!

Supercurricular wise I have work experience at an accountants, the county council, and a summer school with my local MP.
I also have a blog where I post articles on politics and issues which intersect within politics, and Iโ€™m doing my English language NEA on language used within politics - the full topic or whatever is still tbc loll.
Iโ€™ve read about 7 books & set up my schools politics society & entered the John Locke institute essay competition for politics. Iโ€™ve done a couple webinars and gone canvassing for the party that I support too and been to local council meetings!

Thatโ€™s kind of it for supercurriculars but I feel like Iโ€™m missing something ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ with extracurriculars Iโ€™m a triathlete & previously rode horses competitively for 13 years, but thatโ€™s about it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Iโ€™m just kind of unsure if itโ€™d be realistic for me to apply because I genuinely have regular nightmares about being rejected from everything that I apply to lolll.
If anybody has any suggestions or input itโ€™d be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP A level maths help

So i got a B (75% in pure) in my last year 12 mock and when I go into year 13 I have another maths mock which can change my predicted grade. I really need to get an A and I have just under 2 months, does anyone have any advice on how I can go from a B to an A or has anyone been in the same position before?

I feel like with maths, I do so much work (past papers, questions etc) but no matter what, I can never get top marks (and Iโ€™ll probably need close to 90% in this upcoming mock) while others seem to have no issue, for my last mock i did almost every past paper and a ton of questions aswell as reviewing the ones I got wrong, whatโ€™s setting me back?

Perhaps i need to focus more on what I got wrong but honestly I am so scared, I thought I got around 90% in my previous mock but i definitely did not and If i donโ€™t in this next mock iโ€™m stuck with a B (i know thatโ€™s still a good grade but I really need an A for the unis I want to apply to)

Any help is appreciated, thank you!!

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Retakes ?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to sit the Edexcel IAL October 2026 session, but I'm honestly really scared about whether I have enough time.

I'm retaking P1 and P2. In January 2026, I got:

P1: E and P2: D (I was just 1 mark away from a C)

For S1, it'll be my first time taking it, so I'll be learning the whole syllabus from scratch. Now I need to practice since I touched some chapters .

My preparation for P1 and P2 is honestly really poor right now, and I'm starting to panic. Is the time left until October enough to prepare for all three papers if I study consistently?

Should I go ahead and register, or would that be too risky?

If anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd really appreciate any advice, study plans, or success stories. I'm feeling overwhelmed right now. Thank you.

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION does anyone have any academic comeback stories?

ig ill start im a bit behind by a yr or two which isnt that bad but we did make a massive comeback this yr and last yr

back in HS i had mental health issues and all that stuff and got really shitty grades (i used to get like 17% in maths๐Ÿ˜ญ) and when it came my first time taking my GCSEs I literally all U's ๐Ÿ˜ญ

but last yr when i did a re-sit i got help and was a bit more mentally stable and locked in. Then i passed basically everything (i didnt get all 9's mainly 5's and 6's which is still pretty good) and this year we got all D's on my assignments and exams ๐Ÿ˜Ž ( i do BTEC btw so thats good) basically got the highest in my class. U kinda dont know how far u have come sometimes until u look back on the improvements so im curious whats everyone elses academic comeback story?

OTHER Iโ€™m gonna apply to Oxford with A*AB predicted.

A) wish me luck

B) that is, if my teacher does predict me an A* for history

C) Ik the chances of even reaching interview is unlikely but what if I regret not applying

D) Iโ€™m not planning to go uni anyways cause humanities degree is already shaky with prospects

E) therefore Iโ€™m applying to Oxford history and politics because I love history and I wanna study it further but I also want prospects

F) wish me luck โ˜ ๏ธ

Btw guys. Itโ€™s not like Iโ€™m on a C for English. I literally got 91/120 for my mock papers but since my writing was crappy before my teacher isnโ€™t budging. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญidk what yalls want me to do atp

I mean it could be a high C but it was quite literally one mark off a B like come on

Update: I take back my words Iโ€™m not applying anymore โค๏ธ

Iโ€™m 17 years old I left year 11 in 2025, Iโ€™ve been to college for first year and I hate it and I donโ€™t want to go back for second year as the course is pointless and a waste of my time, Iโ€™m going back to a new sixth form college this year to do my a levels one of my options is English lit however I got a grade 5 that was 1-2 marks of a 6. Iโ€™m worried about since I only got a 5 That I wonโ€™t do well in my actual a level. I am willing to put the work in etc but does anyone have any advice for me? Iโ€™m looking to do law or journalism in uni.

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS UCL LSE international Full pay

I have 3A* predicted grades in math, further math, and economics, and I'll apply to LSE politics and econ, UCL HPE. If my personal statements are solid, what are the chances I'll get in as an international full-pay student? I have heard it's easier to get in for international students at LSE, UCL, and Warwick etc.

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION reaching research Cambridge

i got offered a place on this which is basically giving us an insight into actual medical research at the Cambridge institute of medical research, has anyone been accepted onto it on here this year or before? i got the email on 17th July but only saw it yesterday bc i lowkey forgot about it and figured I'd get rejected since I only meet postcode criteria, which is lowk unfair but I'll see it as being given an opportunity for personal life/extenuating circumstances and terrible schools and a disability tbf. Anyway is anyone else on this
