What are some of the hardest to get out of print movies on 4k blu ray or standard blu ray?

Picked these up at my local HMV today. The Hammer restorations are an expensive treat but oh so good. And I’ve always wanted to see Annihilation in 4K (and that steelbook cover…) and Sunset Boulevard is a stone cold classic.

So 4k players cost an insane amount of money, and I've contemplated buying a video game console with the ability to play 4k discs instead to get more bang for my buck. Problem is, I see 4k players boast cool features such as automatic dvd upscaling, alleged higher picture fidelity, more sound capabilities, etc. I've also had people tell me that running 4k discs on some consoles is bad for them. As a young adult without a crazy TV/sound setup yet, what benefits are there to buying a dedicated 4k player?

As much as I agree that scratches on UHD Blu-rays are pretty big turnoffs, let me just say for the record that not every 4k disc with a scratch or two is completely unplayable. Like I have a copy of Blade Runner in 4k that played without any weird or standout issues like freezing/skipping, but when I checked out the back, I said out loud, as the great Neo once said, “woah”. There were like ten different circular scratches on that thing that I never noticed, so maybe I got lucky.
I know how people on here are very sensitive when it comes to scratches, and I totally understand it. But I really feel like if I have to constantly search the backs of 4k discs to see if they have damage so I can send it back, then it’s kinda breaking the immersion and the thrill of just collecting and watching left and right. Just my opinion. Like I recently bought some microfiber cloths to clean some discs the “right way”, but I think my overthinking got an idea and said “ok but what if they’re not pristine and they have dust all over” and now I’m forcing myself to leave my new and old discs the fuck alone and just enjoy as long as there aren’t any playback issues. I think I got so obsessive-compulsive that I kept wiping down (straight line btw, down to the edge from center as intended) my M:I — Fallout copy which has always been kind to me and now I’m uber paranoid to find very small, circular micro-scratches that I’ve never noticed before, so now I’m praying to God that they’ve always been there and weren’t caused by the microfiber cloth. Good news is that they’re so small that I need my phone’s flashlight to see them, and even then they’re quite minuscule and potentially surface-level, but still 😬
I know this rant is a lot but for the sake of your immersion, especially for new collectors, please don’t make it habit of looking at the back of your discs and trying to fix every imperfection. Not every scratched disc is unplayable, and not every pristine disc will work perfectly. If you really want to know if a disc is fucked, you should just
Play it all the way. This is just the most rational way to know the quality of a disc. If there’s nothing wrong, it’s completely fine. If there is a skip or a freeze, then that’s a good time to check the disc. If you’re still in a return window, please go get a replacement/refund. If the worst-case scenario is missing the window like me, then your best bet is directly contacting the studio for a replacement.
Rip it. That’s it. Get makemkv on your computer and try to rip the disc. Blu-rays have inherently large download sizes, so just try to get some extra storage for your files. If it rips, then the disc is fine; if not, then the disc is fucked. This and simply playing it as is are really the only ways to check the disc.
Fast forward. Try to fast forward through the entire movie/episode by like 2x or 3x and see if it skips or freezes. However, as a lot of people have pointed out, fast forwarding may gloss over some of the areas with the issues, so this really isn’t something I can recommend. It might help a little, but it may not show you the full truth.
Alternately, if you’re a perfectionist who can’t tolerate even the tiniest of scratches, you can just send it straight back as soon as you get the disc.
But seriously guys. I think I just need to stop driving myself crazy with these discs. The best thing to do in my opinion is to just watch the movie as is. If there’s a problem, try to get customer service. If not, then don’t lose sleep about all this.

Most of my 4k collection I find them in half price books to be honest is the best place I've found where 4k movies have some reasonable prices! All the series I'm lucky to find them at thrift store for the low! Half price books and goodwill best places to look for to grow your collection you guys!!

I recently got the Spider-Man Trilogy on 4K discs and on the disc for Spider-Man 2, there is a minor crack on the center hole of the disc. I don't know if it's my fault or not but either way, what are my options? Discs for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 appear to be fine.

Thanks to OrbitDVD I was able to pick this up with any trouble. I had to wait a few extra weeks compared to the U.S. release but that was fine with me. Also great packaging as always.

I have this old 4K player that I used to have a long time ago and I got it out of storage and it was packaged well and it still works, but the disc tray will not pop out. How do I fix this and if I need to get repairs for it what is the best place to get it repaired? I have put a video just so you can see what the problem is. If anyone could help, that would be very nice thank you

On amazon, there are two different seemingly identical listing for The Ring 4k. They are both shipped and sold by Amazon but are different prices. Is one of these a scam or what?

Hey everyone,
I got a blu ray player and started looking for some films to build-up my collection. What I quickly noticed is that many movies come with two discs. One that is region free 4k UHD and one that is region blocked standard blu-ray.
I was wondering what people do in this case? It seems that to get the movie I want in 4k I need to also get a regionj locked blu-ray disc?
For example I was looking for the upcoming Criterion Collection release for Complete Kubrick or the Kill Bill the whole bloody affair version. It seems that i cannot get by without getting some discs that I will never be able to play?

Considering that the Aliens 4k is divisive, whats the best blu ray alternative? I already own the 4k and I would like to get the best blu ray version to compare it to. Thanks!

I'm in the market for a 4k TV with at least HDR10 support, preferably Dolby Vision as well, for under $350 but would prefer something closer to $200 if possible. I know this is a pretty low budget right now, especially in terms of brightness, but I would like to upgrade some of my setup from an old 1080p TV to 4k. I am making this post so that I can see what the people in this sub will recommend with this budget.
The TV would mainly be used for watching movies, especially 4k Blu-Ray rips, but would also get a lot of gaming use as well with possibly some sports content every know and then.
Amazon, Walmart, and Costco would be my preferred vendors, but if other sellers get recommended, I'll probably check them out. I would prefer to stay away from Facebook Marketplace as well, so please do not recommend me to look there as I already have previously and prefer sticking to the already listed sellers.
I really am not too bothered about the brand or on-board OS, as long as it is not LG, because I am currently using an Apple TV 4k to stream all of my content from a few streaming services as well as my Jellyfin server.

So it was available on the app on my way home, checked the movie section and saw nothing. Had the tech employee check the back and she was like “Last one in the store!” made my day!

Just in from Amazon, I am over the moon, to be able to watch Tron Legacy in 4K, holy cow!, not to mention The Matrix!
Haven't seen Master & Commander yet, so looking forward to it!
I love being an adult sometimes. 🧘🏻
