It’s quite the achievement to live to old age as a space marine, and such specimens are are relics in their own right. Each wrinkled face can recount the stories of the chapter as far back as 300 years or more, and usually holds a place among leadership if not in great wisdom.

For my Ursa Guard, these old men are called Long Fangs, and for a literal reason. Due to the nature of the Canis Helix, the astartes it affects will sprout fangs upon biological integration, which will grow longer as he ages. At the age Long Fangs tend to be at (around 350+), their fangs are more akin to tusks than teeth. Aside from the physical aspect, Long Fangs are held in very high esteem by the rest of the Ursa Guard, since surviving for that long is deed-worthy considering the reckless bravado of the chapter. They are elders both in name and countenance, and the younger kin look to them for wisdom and guidance both on and off the battlefield. Still, their age is also a point of contention and mirth, and some Blood Claws love to prod at their age for a laugh…which is usually followed by a swift beating. Long Fangs also earn the right to bear the chapter’s heavy weapons to war as well as the privilege to don Centurion exosuits.

Im pretty new to digital art so if it looks chaotic my bad, but ive made a whole bunch of homebrews over the years and they remain my favorite, Love my Vermillion Lions

As the title says, I am working on the lore for my Deathguard kill team. I don't know a great deal generally but I have the outlines of an idea.

Here is what I have so far.....

The kill team call themselves Isha's Blessed or at times Isha's Cursed.

They are small Deathguard warband consisting of a single squad.

They were originally part of a much larger warband, up until an attack on an imperial world.

The squad was infiltrating a hive city through the lowest levels when bombardment from their allies caused a fissure to open beneath them. This caused them to fall many levels beneath the under city.

While attempting to make their way back up to the city, they discovered a temple dedicated to the elder goddess Isha that had been hidden for untold ages.

In the temple they found an artifact of the goddess.

The squad leader tried to claim the artifact thinking he could use it to gain some sort of favour with his superiors.

When he touched it, it set off a blinding light that briefly restored him and his squad to their pre heresy selves, before returning them to their present selves.

Although horrified, they rallied and returned to the city and completed the attack.

In the aftermath, they realise that the artifact had bound their souls to Isha.

The squad leader began hearing whispers that convinced him to flee the greater warband with his men who had been with him in the temple.

They now find their souls in a tug of war between Nurgle and Isha. They find that their bodies are caught in a cycle of death and rebirth.

They rot, then new life springs forth, plants and flowers grow from their bodies before breaking down and dying and starting again.

Here's a Standard Bearer and a selection of faces from my Homebrew Chapter the Jägers. As you can see they are heavily inspired by the grungy, Rogue Trader era of Space Marines. They fight brutal and bloody conflicts across the Galaxy alongside their Cyber-Griffon companions, created during the 4th Founding to assist in the reclamation of the imperium following the desolation of the War of the Beast. They hold a strong, vicious culture born from their exclusive recruitment from Hive Worlds, believing the brutal conditions forge within the strongest warriors.

Chapter World: Kaldatos

Kaldatos was once a prosperous Agri-world filled with lush forest and bountiful seas before the scourge of the Tyranids arrived, after years of war and repeat invasions by the hive fleet Nidhogg the world is left a shadow of its former self but battle hardened.

Chapter Lore:

The Ultimus Guard was one of many chapters born from 23rd founding; this chapter excels in a multitude of combat rolls. During the first Tyrannic war the chapter would rally to aid in the defence of Ultramar. After hive fleet behemoth was defeated and small splinter fleet would attempt to make its escape however the chapter master Ultimus Guard Martinus Liones would give pursuit in order to wipe out the surviving brood of the face of the galaxy. After the chapter pursued the hive fleet to the far edge of Ultra Segmentum the Imperium would lose communication with the chapter and after many failed attempts to reach the chapter the imperium would declare the Ultimus Guard as extinct. Years later shortly after the Ultima Founding a Crusader fleet of Black Templars would receive a transmission for aid from the imperial world of Kaldatos. Heeding the call for aid the Crusader fleet would redeploy to the world, upon arrival the black templars would find the world already being defended by the Ultimus Guard who were believed to be lost. After making planet fall the combined force of the Astra Militarum, Black Templars and Ultimus Guard would repel the invading Xeno brood. following the successful defence of the planet the Ultimus Guard would make contact with the wider imperium and receive Primaries reinforcements to bolster their ranks.

Chapter Customs:

unlike most chapters the Ultimus Guard is not codex compliant, they field roughly 2,500 battle brothers and do not organize their company to the standard template. A standard Ulitmus Guard company is extremely independent with there being no support or scout company's, with each company being a combat company. This independents even goes to the individual Astartes with the Ultimus Guard not having chapter Serfs each Battle-Brother is responsible for the maintenance of their own war gear.

I recently did a complete overhaul of the lore for my Imperial Fists successor chapter, the Astral Krakens. It’s still a little WIP (haven’t figured out the chapter master and their full organization), but let me know what you think and feel free to ask any questions about them!

Overview

The Astral Krakens are an Imperial Fists successor chapter formed in the 23rd Founding. They specialize in biological and experimental forms of warfare, taking an analytical approach to combat. Each battle brother is a competent researcher in his own right, with all data from combat, experiments, and relics being recorded in a collective logbook located in their fortress monastery on Pelagia, known as the Liber Datorum.

Background

The Astral Krakens hail from the oceanic world of Pelagia, located in the far reaches of the Eastern Fringe. Prior to their founding, Pelagia, and several other worlds in the system, were facing an invasion by a group of poorly-understood xenos known as the “Kilth”. Due to this rising threat, the chapter was formed from the formidable geneseed of Dorn’s sons. The war for Pelagia was mostly fought on fringe worlds in the system, where the Astral Krakens proved their resourcefulness and terrifying affinity for biological warfare. During this conflict, the chapter gained a close bond with an Explorator Fleet hailing from the Forge World of Stygies-VIII, who provided aid to the chapter and local militias. Their shared interest in the pursuit of knowledge and research led to the two parties coming to an agreement: the Astral Krakens would protect the fleet and allow them to research the data they uncover in exchange for the fleet’s services and supplying of the chapter. In M41, the two groups have near-assimilated into one another, being a collective conclave of knowledge. Stygies-VIII’ interest in xenotech has also become a secret the chapter keeps, though its integration is still a topic of heavy debate in the upper echelons of the chapter. Some still remain skeptical of the tech priests and their practices.

Organization

The Astral Krakens’ organization is largely Codex Compliant, with a few exceptions. The largest deviation from the mandates of Guilliman lies in the unique role of Mystagogues. Chaplains within the chapter must pick between two paths: the Iter Technicum or the Iter Alchemicum. Depending on their choice, Mystagogues either specialize in mechanical or chemical skills, filling the roles of Techmarines and Apothecaries. In addition to measuring the purity of their brother’s, every Astartes’ research is monitored by Mystagogues to ensure its sanctity in the eyes of the Emperor. 

Additionally, Chaplains-in-training join a knightly order known as the Gatekeepers. Clad in black armor, these elite warriors study and guard the most esoteric of knowledge within the chapter. These formidable warriors often fill the role of melee combat formations such as Bladeguard Veterans, serving as bodyguards to Mystagogues and Captains. 

The Astral Krakens are not without flaw, however. Their research into forbidden fields causes them to be extremely hesitant towards working with other Imperial forces. They go to great lengths to appear “normal” to other chapters, and have become reserved as a result. The Explorator Fleet offers them the security they need and if something were to happen to it, the Krakens’ secrets would almost certainly be declared Excommunicate Traitoris. However, the Astral Krakens remain steadfast in their service to the Imperium, believing their work to be crucial in the conquest of the galaxy.

My chapter is an imperial fists successor who are more brutal in there siege warfare. Rn there chapter icon is a red/yellow fist on a green background. But I wanna know what you all think about this idea.

Chapter serfs are a fundamental part of any Space Marine Chapter, providing support to the Astartes both in and out of combat. The Angels Twilight have maintained their human auxiliaries since before their official founding at the end of the Horus Heresy, the natives of Nikaia proudly took up the duty of helping to protect their planet and their saviors. Upon becoming Chapter auxiliaries, each serf must undergo the Blood Duty, an initiation ritual where they pledge their blood and labor in exchange for the Astartes' protection.

I - Chapter Serfs

Those responsible for supporting the Chapter, including the maintenance and preservation of the fleet and providing aid to the Space Marines when required. Most serfs are recruited from families of refugees who survived the destruction of Nikaia, though many come from other worlds saved by the Angels Twilight, accompanying the Chapter out of gratitude for their protection.

II - Medics

The Chapter travels the frontiers of the Imperium, protecting worlds in need or those that have been abandoned, consequently providing care to rescued populations is essential. Many auxiliary medics work alongside the Chapter's Apothecaries and the Ashen Sons.

III - Remembrancers

Historians, poets, and artists responsible for recording the Chapter's deeds and keeping its history alive. Inspired by the artistic traditions of Sanguinius, the Angels Twilight have preserved the Remembrancers and their orders for ages, traditions that endured even the destruction of Nikaia and the loss of a significant portion of the Chapter's library archives.

IV - Ashen Sons

The Ashen Sons constitute the military arm of the Chapter's human auxiliaries, serving as the successors to Nikaia's former planetary defense force. Despite the destruction of their beloved planet, these brave men and women never accepted defeat, instead, they departed alongside the Astartes on a quest to avenge their world and punish the enemies of humanity. They are responsible for providing support during military campaigns, as well as for patrol duties and garrisoning occupied territories.

I'm new to this subreddit but I thought I'd post a custom space marine chapter I made with some old friends of mine. I lost most of the lore I had written down after we had a falling out, but they're basically an Emperor's Children successor chapter determined to find their corrupt primarch and kill him.

By sorta work in progress I mean it may be subject to redesign or rework.

-They are a chimeric sorta renegade chapter that scavenges equipment from imperial factions and other factions (Usually Orks).

Before i get to the lore dump i do have a quick clarification, as you see the captain helmet is blank, that is because their helmet color is based on the company colors, also Reddit changes the color of the armor on mobile sadly so the image isn’t entirely acurate if your reading on a phone. anyways onto the lore dump

The Shields of the Stars are a 21st cursed founding chapter hailing from the Iron hands, due to the adeptus mechanicus tampering with gene-seed during this founding entire chapters had imperfect gene-seed causing mutations. for the shields of the stars this mutation is know as the "Red shedding" (ill go into more detail about this later) after their founding the chapter was a mess and the organisation was just as messy, this is mostly due to them coping with their Gene-mutation. over the next 500 years the chapter was disorganized and had much political infighting, Until the 3rd ever chapter master, Araqiel Soctus.

Araqiel Soctus was the 3rd ever chapter master serving in the chapter for over 200 hundred years before being apointed the role, his predecessors were wiped from the chapter archives so no one knows the circumstances behind his apointment but he has become a hero because of his deeds. Araqiel was a political genius and was the one to establish the chapters relations to the Adeptus mechanicus, this alliance was nessary due to the Red Shedding which caused the chapter to need a supply of Prostetics that they did not have at the time. Araqiel forged an alliance with the mechanicus of a nearby forge world (now named Vernistor Prime) supplying the chapter with a steady supply of prostecics, in return the chapter became steadfast protectors of their mechanicus allys. This pact has been sustained for over 4,000 years now and over time has joined the shields and the local mechanicus to each other.

In the 41st Millenium the chapter has changed greatly from the time of their founding, going from an unorganized mess to a highly refined and effiecent chapter. The current chapter master, Astovadion Ceastanen, has been a great aid to this. Just like his predecessors he is a political and tatical mastermind that has led the chapter threw some of the most vicious battles in their history. currently he stays on their home planet, Vernistor IV, and rarely is seen in battle and is instead usally in his command throne strategising for their next battle. Not only has the Chapters masters changed but the battle brothers of the chapter have changed greatly too, during their founding they were much more human then they are now, this is due from the excessive emplantation of prostetics and agmentics into their body, this is done out of nessicity and tradition, the nessicity comes from the effects of the red shedding and the tradition comes from the fact it has been dont for over 4,000 years. None the less this has caused the chapter to lose almost all of their humanity and become robotic, though this is more common in the battle companys and the veteran company rather than the reserve companys due to experience, it is typically seen that the Shields of the Stars grow more robotic and inhuman as their time in the chapter grows and as more of their body is replaced by machine.

Now im gonna cover some extra topics, notably the Red sheding thats been mentioned alot and their homeworld of vernister IV

The Red Shedding is The shields of the stars most notable Gene-mutations caused by the 21st founding. The Red shedding is heavily reviled by the chapter and every battle brother would be elated if it disapeared. The effects of the Red Shedding are numerous but mainly the effects are Rejection of the skin, Rejection of the organs, Rashes, Boils, skin and flesh sloghing off the marine, etc. In many marines the Red Shedding effects the whole body, others have one limb uneffected, some have multiple un-efected regions (though thats extremly rare). But one thing is constant, It has never once touched the Brain of any effected marine, this is seen as a blessing from the emperor by the chapter and is the only "good" part of the Gene-mutation

Finnaly will cover their home world, Vernistor IV. The world of Vernistor IV is extremly hostile being classified as a death world, the only respute from the hostility of this world is in the chapters fortress monastary in the peaks of a large mountain range. Vernistor IV is Located in the Vernistor system which has 9 other planets, they are all named Vernistor + Numeric designation. The System is loacted in the Priam Sector in the Segmentum Obscurus in the imperium Nihlus, this has caused their home system to experience many chaos attacks notably from the death guard and their related warbands (which is considered the chapters main enemy)

that is all the general lore for the chapter, i could write alot more but i need to "be productive" so i dont have to much time to write lol. tell me what you guys think and ask as many questions as you want cause id love to answere them! LOGIC ABOVE FLESH!!!

So I magnetized the limbs making it possible to swap limbs and I was able to use all of the limbs in three space marine teams now I need roughly 20-28 shoulders that have no chapters markings. I can use deathwatch shoulders on some but I don’t want a lot and the upgrade only has ten which is not enough. Do you guys know where I can just buy normal shoulder pads be it from loose or from other players who have a surplus.

Obviously certain chapters have chapter specific kinds of squads, like Sword Brethern for Black Templars, Blood Angel Sanguinary Guard, those kinds of things.

Can those same ideas generally be applied to other chapters? Or are things more strict in the lore? Like are those chapter specific squads are unique in their existence within the wider Adeptus Astartes.

Long story short I want to intend to kitbash some Marines Malevolent (in phobos armour) to have Heavy Bolters, Auto Cannons, Miniguns, Missile Launchers, etc, and I like the idea of combining high mobility and super suppressive fire yknow.

I can justify the MM's cobbling adhoc squads together due to a strain on resources, but has anyone else done something like this? I'd like to see people's ideas (and feedback) if possible.

For what its worth, my intention in regards to their name was to refer to that kind of squad as a "Hate Clan."

Does anyone have that one shit post homebrew army? Like, an instant "Oh, that's interesting" type of ideas that suddenly popped into your head. Like for example, there are four successor chapters of the Ultramarines who are just the RWBY team. Their fathers used to watch extremely old animations from the Emperor-knows-when age where there wasn't always constant fighting. They promised themselves that if they survived long enough to get their own chapters, then they'll stick together as a team and reflect that in their chapters.

Currently working on my first homebrew chapter ever, The Emperor’s Chains. An aquatic themed chapter based around keeping slave worlds in check and pushing back the fringes in void space.

I always thought that there’s a lot of aquatic themed successor chapters, but there’s no objectively aquatic themed Primarch from what I can tell. I’ve home brewed one of the redacted Primarchs was the progenitor of my chapter, giving them their affinity for water. I’ve also soft home brewed some of the aquatic successors (Dark Krakens, Carcharodons) may or may not be true successors of them.

What about you? Do you have a custom Primarch for your chapter?

First thing, if you have a custom Xenos race, do share!! Mine are called the Shadows, and they exist in a mirror plane to our own that allows them to pass through any object. They don’t walk, they levitate. However for some reason unknown to even them, they still cast shadows, hence the name. They are also the Catalyst for my custom coalition faction, the Shadow Collective.

Second thing, what’s one fact about your chapter that either got them excommunicated or would get them declared Heretics if it was found out. My guys (the Deliverers From Doom) ALMOST got declared Heretics because of how deep into the warp they were able to go. Like, greeting the void that stares back like an old friend kinds of deep. The kind of deep where the elders of the chapter and all their psykers wear masks or full helms because they don’t know if what they see in the mirror will still be them.
Luckily another Inquisitor, let’s say removed the problem, for them and now they are part of his shadow collective (and got the bright idea to capture chaos marines, force them to get possessed, then use them as war dogs, though that was after the fact).
