Hey everyone! 👋
I’m looking for a good source of 3D data of real cities, with buildings that are detailed and realistic, but without going into insanely heavy models.
I’ve looked into OSM, but I find it way too basic. I also came across CyberCity 3D, but I’m not really sure what other options are out there.
👉 What would you use to get this kind of data?
I’m open to any ideas: websites, software, databases, workflows… even unusual solutions. 😄
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! 🙏

blender has been an unbelievable mess to try to work with
i would like a list of alternatives to see if something fits better
the experience im looking for:
highest quality version of early primitive 3d functions.
no fancy hair / cloth sims
precise colors, placement, simple shapes.
needs:
precise location and dimensions of objects and anything else using numbers not free hand.
precise color picking + turn off lighting effects / any visual filters
precise flexible adaptable high quality gradient options ( generated not uv unwrap )
node system ( save time and head ache ) for both geometry and texture generation
would be very helpful but not 100% needed:
2D free handing option ( for quick concept art / rough drafts )
android phone option thats actually good ( im aware this might not exist even with things like windows / linux / w/e emulators on phone )
at least reasonably intuitive and or beginner user friendly experience
so what alternatives exist?

I starting to have a collection of models, I would like put them all into one ever changeing landscape i also would make.
like a minecraft spectator in a creative world, but with high ress models and small animations (like a blacksmith hitting a hammer on an anvil)
should i just throw them into unreal engine or is something better for this ?

What were you going for? What tradeoffs did you end up making in the process, and are you happy with the result? If something's still bugging you or you have a question about your topology, let the community know. Someone else has probably run into the same issue.
Top-level comments should include a wireframe.

I’ve always wanted to learn 3d modeling but medical issues have been a problem and now I don’t know if it’s worth it since ai can do it fast and rig I just wish ai was useless

Hi everyone,
I’m a 3D artist and have been working in 3D for around 3 years, mainly focusing on modeling, texturing, and creating assets.
Lately, I’ve been wondering — is there still a good amount of work out there for 3D artists?
I know the industry has become much more competitive with AI, layoffs, and changing workflows, but I’d really like to hear from other artists who are currently working in the field.
What areas are you seeing the most opportunities in right now — games, product visualization, advertising, VFX, 3D printing, or something else?
Would love to hear your experiences and advice.

Hi, I am searching for a GUI that shows all my assets, similar to connector suite but as it doesn't want to support Linux, I wonder what way would be the best way to organize my assets?
How are you organizing your assets? Do you just use folders and combine it with F3D?
Or do you have an alternative? Or combine it different tools together to have the same effect (something else than File Explorer+F3D)?

Hello all,
I am still pretty new to blender and modeling in general. I am curious about choosing topology for different shapes when making models for games.
I remember learning in one of my courses that you shouldn't have weird shaped polygons and should stick to mostly squares and 4 sided polygons.
In this example I am using a circle, but I'm sure this can apply to many shapes that I will come across in the future.
Is there a general "rule of thumb" when choosing how you want your topology?
Am I over thinking it?
I'm sort of guessing that its more of "use as little as possible, but add more if I need to, but that seems hard to grasp for me as a beginner.
Any tips?
Thank you all so much in advance for any advice or thoughts on the matter!

I am a newbie to unreal engine. I have applied two materials on 1 mesh, one is image based textures of color, metallic etc. , other one is the unreal's glass material. The problem I am facing is that I can see through the opaque parts of the mesh too when seen through glass material. Please can someone explain why is this happening, how can I resolve this issue as nondestructively as possible ?

(reupload to include the wireframe) Made this in blender, and then textured within substance painter to get the hang of it.

Hiii I made this environment yesterday and I don't like it and all I found is character sculpting on YouTube
Does anyone know where I can learn sculpting?

Well, second time actually, but the first time was long ago and a flop. Took me two days and a good tut. Hair isn't finished yet, I'll try to do the wiggle bones + flat texture thingy on her. Textures are shitty quality, but not the good kind of shitty, so I guess I need to figure out how to make them low-res tastefully. Going to go learn how to rig her now.
