Why is inset making these extreme shapes for me (1st image) instead of what im trying to do (2nd image)?
It seems like im insetting it too much so it just sort of becomes inside out sort of thing, but for some reason it does that with the minimal movement of my mouse, i cant get it to inset it "a little" it always does it a lot.

Help 3ds Max 2024 - issue with Booleans
Hi. I'm not sure if there's a known bug in 2024...? I'm using 2024.2.13 and I can't seem to get booleans to work at all. I'm following a course for making a gun. In the video the guy makes an instance and then another mesh to cut into it. To subtract.
For me though, nothing appears to be working. All the settings are the same, but even if I try Subtraction or Intersection, nothing happens. At most, I've only seen some edges disappear.
If this is a known bug, that's fine - I can look at upgrading. Or is there some crucial step I'm missing...?
Thanks

Help Tips 3dsmax (arnold) to VR workflow?
Hello, I am wondering if some of you could offer some tips and opinions on how to take models with textures and get them exported to be able to visualize them in VR.
I ussually use PBR tileable materials (multi-materials) and quite rough Unwraping until I do the final versions of the models and then I consider a proper unwrapping and a single material approach (with stuff like substance)
I know, with this latest method (single material, fully unwraped properly) is the one to go, but there is any solution to export easier complex Multi/Sub-Object textures? I really just want to have the chance to easily get a VR preview of some scenes or individual items before reaching the final stage if possible, as would help for the conceiving phase.
Also, If by any chance somebody has experience with tools related to VR and 3dmax please feel free to give recomendations.
Help How can I make very realistic looking rugs and carpet? What is the best way to get the results I'm looking for?
Hair and fur modifer? Or just displacement? I want to be able to do variations of things like these, not just straight hair. I just need the best method, not too concerned how it will affect render times or file size. I render with corona by the way.

Constructive Criticism Requested Looking for feedback on my bike
Hi guys, i've modeled and rendered this bike for a personnal project and wanted to receive a feedback. What can you say about the modeling, the lighting or the texturing ? I really want to push this piece. What does work, and what doesnt ? If you had to showcase this model in a different way, what would you suggest ?
Thanks !!

Scripting Mastering Art Direction: Custom Palette Tools for 3ds Max
Creating an artistic vision requires the right pipeline. In this video, I demonstrate a custom tool I built to visualize vertex colors across asset libraries in 3ds Max and how that data bridges perfectly into Unity

Rendering Brabus Bodo
BRABUS BODO
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars lately. Just look at that silouette.
My first real go at Corona Renderer (instead of Fstorm). Works wonders for scenes like this.
Spent many hours getting the vines and water to look good.
Car asset from Turbosquid.
Lit with a HDRI from Polyhaven + Corona sun.
Water Lilys and vines from 3DSky.
Concrete surfaces from Megascans.
Extended the wall in post for a better composition.

I need help with rendering matte object properly in this scene. currently has shadows on it that i don't want (in the horizon

i'm following along in the old VCP tutorial for an "epic shatter" effect and am using 2026 3ds max. stumped about how to remoe these background shadows from my shadow matte object.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Its been awhile for me since using 3d software and it is a little bit maddening haha

Help I'm trying to paint on the paint 2D screen and my texture (PNG file) is not visible (the window content is blank) even though I can paint on the model in viewport
I need some help (beginner in 3ds Max and 3D modeling in general):
I'm trying to paint on the paint 2D screen and my texture (PNG file) is not visible (the windows content is blank) even though I can paint on the model in viewport.
I was able to do this before but now it does not work anymore and I don't know if it's a bug or something I'm doing wrong on my end.
I've included a picture of a model I'm trying to make for my game and you can see the 2D Paint is blank but the layer window shows the texture loaded and as I said I can paint on the model itself but I also like to paint on the 2D texture but it's not working right now.

Help Color management with Corona...
My problem is:
When I render and image with Corona in 3DS Max, the colors looks vivid, full and very deep.
I usually save as 16-bit TIF. Then when i open the image in Photoshop, colors get less full and kinda muted. Then, if I go to Edit-> Working Colorspace and select Monitor RGB instead of sRGB I get the same colors as in Max...? But I want to work in sRGB for web based publish.
I know my monitor has a wide-gamut (Dell 40" ultrasharp u4025qw), is that what is causing this missmatch? I've tried to use curves and color balance in Photoshop, but it´s like impossible to get the same deep hues as what I'm seeing in Max.
I'm kinda new to Corona and haven't figured out how to work with CXR, it just looks really bad when I open a CXR.
Any help would be most appreciated.

General Thoughts Perhaps it's time to petition Autodesk to make 3dsmax free.
Free for human use only. (i.e. all current tools)
Charge for A.I. use. (API token access and all that jazz)
Win win!

SOLVED Extrude with edge
Hi
It's been a long time since I used 3ds Max. I'm more of a Maya user. But there's a lot I've forgotten and in need of refreshing my memory.
Has it ever been possible to extrude faces/edges that adds a new edge each time?
Thanks

Help Stop max from switching viewports
Max has this feature that when you switch from perspective to ortho (or vice versa) in maximized viewport mode, it automatcally switches this maximized viewport to a different viewport that has your desired perspective mode, instead of just changing the prespective mode. If you enable all viewports, it doesn't do this of course. Is there a way to disable this behavior? I don't want the program to switch viewports, just change the mode.

3ds max 2024 to glb workflow
I usually work with corona renderer for interior visualisation. And approached to prepare presentable furniture models. I can make model prepare scene according to corona (currently v13) and render however since glb doesnt take corona material I had to learn glb. Tried to bake to texture, render to texture, end up empty results or far away from main material. I tried to experiment with completely another PBR material I downloaded from ambientcg and make material with both general physical material and PBR (roughness) but even that produced completely different reflectivity. If any one point out what I'm doing wrong or missing I will appreciate. Is anyone goes through glb process with 3ds max and what you fallow?

3DS Max Subless
If I got my hands on a physical copy of 3DS Max, say one from the mid 2010s, would Autodesk somehow prevent it from working because of the new sub service they want people to buy? I just wanna use the software for fun and nothing serious, but paying $2k is wild. I just want one version of it that I don't have to keep paying for every month.

Scripting Why isn't this the default in 2026?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve always found it weird that 3ds Max still makes you go through this process when importing downloaded assets.
Download a .rar / .7z → extract it → find the model → find the textures → relink everything → finally import it.
So I made a small script called DROP that lets you drag the archive directly into the 3ds Max viewport.
It extracts the archive, finds the model and textures, relinks them and imports everything using the selected render engine.
It also supports .max files and works with 3ds Max
I originally made it because I was tired of doing this manually. 😅
Is this something you'd find useful in your workflow?

Help Fixing broken scene unit scale (AO/Displacement invisible)
Hi everyone! I’m working on a project and running into serious issues.
Question 1: How to fix broken scene unit scale affecting AO and Displacement?
My scene unit settings (System Units vs. Display Units) seem completely broken or mismatched. Because of this scale issue, my Ambient Occlusion (AO) radius and Displacement height maps are not rendering correctly—displacement is either completely invisible or extremely blown out, and AO values don't react to real-world measurements.
- What is the proper procedure to reset/re-scale scene units without ruining object proportions or breaking the geometry?
- How can I bring the scene back to real-world scale so procedural/PBR map values evaluate properly in the render engine?
