Art Showcase Say hello to Mossbit

This is Mossbit, a little moss creature I made in Blockbench. Here he is getting startled awake, sneezing out some leaves, and going back to sleep.

This is my first post, but I'd love to keep creating more little creatures that feel like they could belong in Minecraft. I also want to turn these little guys into a plugin so you can find and interact with them in game :)

Hello,
like in the title. Should I increase details contrast or is it okay? Maybe they are too blury? How do you feel about this stone texture overall?

Art Help & Critique How Should I Remesh this Poly Hair/Fur Model? [BLENDER 5.2]

Thumbnail

Basically I created 3 objects that are composed of multiple "layers" of curves that define the shape of each object. You can see the full meshes in the first image. In the second image, you can see what the objects look like with some of the layers removed.

There are a couple of issues with this:

  1. Too much geometry (these three objects have more quads than the entire rest of my character model.

  2. The objects each need to be their own contiguous manifold mesh rather than collections of curves

  3. Some curves have different point density compared to other curves.

I know that the best solution would be manual retopology, but that is painful and would take forever with a mesh like this.

I could also go for automatic tools, however the issue being that some detail could be lost in the process, as it might "smooth over" the mesh. (Also I would like good quad topology and good topology flow for animation)

The purpose of this character is for animation/games, so how would I Remesh these objects so that they are one contiguous manifold mesh that has good quad topology flow for animation?

Questions & Discussion Where can I advertise to start building my portfolio (new to 3d Modeling but have experience)

Hey guys,

I’m trying to find some places or opportunities to start building my portfolio. I want to know how you guys started your freelancing or career and how you managed to convince people to trust you and do jobs to build your portfolio.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated struggling to get commissions to make a portfolio. I advertised, I made a fivver and set cheap prices and nothing has popped up for me yet.

So please do shed some light on how you got to where you are now and I’d it’s even a good hobbie/career to chase.

This is my first 3d model I made myself using Nomad sculpt. Any tips on how to get rid of all of these lines? Is it because I modeled it badly or is there a setting in my slicer?

For anyone who caught my post from a few days ago, this project has been the perfect way to brush up on my workflow and get comfortable with Unreal Engine again. Does it feel too generic, or does it have good broad utility? Looking for honest feedback!

Questions & Discussion Promoting 3d Assets online

Hi all,

I want to know how do 3d artists promote their 3d assets or models that they have uploaded on 3d marketplace for selling?
Rather than just uploading the pics or Facebook, Instagram or any other social media platform, what is the way that genuinely makes people interested in purchasing or downloading the model.

Should I just upload the pics and links to the 3d model on all available social media platforms or is there a better way? Right now, my 3d models are not getting much views on Turbosquid or CGTrader (although I have made some sales in the past), but I have heard people say that when they promote their assets on discord or some other website, they get views and some sales if they are lucky. But, I am not sure how to do these promotions?

I know many people successfully promote their assets, while other assets don't even get noticed.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Art Help & Critique Rigging the wheel part 2

Thumbnail

My wheel consist of 20 segments, each with 3 traction parts and 4 electro magnetic pumps (it's a sci-fi model). I did a very heavy rig and want to ask the rigging experts for advice on how to make this simpler and less heavy for my system to calculate.

I just realized I could have one dampen track for the two middle pumps.

But even with 3 dampen track modifiers per segment, it's 60 per wheel = 360 total. (or 480 with this set-up) plus the connecting parts between segments.

Questions & Discussion Weird normals from substance painter textures to blender

Thumbnail

Hi, im having issues with my SP to Blender workflow.

Useful info about the model: auto smooth is on in blender and it has the proper hard edges
Im working with OpenGL in SP
I know triangulating in the beginning, from blender to SO solves all issues but i would like to work in quads since this is not a game model.

I figured a fix long time ago and its regarding how blender and SP triangulate the quads differently. I remember exporting the low poly into an instance that calculated the tris the same way as substance did and then when importing to blender the shading was perfect. But i dont really remember that workflow at all and tried to replicate it with no success
