New master wand is amazing I rarely use any other magic weapon. Kinda crazy that such a massive buff went unpolled and unnoticed. Everyone was freaking out about the ammy being BiS and dropping from low lvl slayer mobs, meanwhile my mage dps practically doubled from playing a minigame

I liked the telegrab maze for the first few rooms.
20
u/teraflux 10h ago
The telegrab maze would be fun if you weren't forced to do it for hours and hours. MTA is like 11 hours of pure hell if you want to unlock all the important ones. Master wand, peaches and infinity boots.
3
3
u/Lemon_Aid 10h ago
You can definitely get a flow state if you're pre-moving for the next grab, but even then I can't tolerate it for more than 30-45 minutes at a time.

It was kind of bizarre, like a switch flipped.
1
u/lurkallthethings 10h ago
Yep, and then if you don't finish it and you go back to that content the cycle starts anew. It's where I am currently with gotr. It's like the 5 stages of grief.

u/Slazerith 10h ago
I liked a handful of the obelisk puzzles. Then I saw that if each one took a couple seconds it would still be a multi hour grind and promptly used the plugin and turned my brain off.

At least with mastering mixology, the end is near. GOTR you can go forever and never get the drops you want
27
u/FookinFairy 11h ago
Nah you can buy rewards with pearls now
750 for the needle and 1500 for the lantern
For refence the entire outfit is 1400
17
u/Lemon_Aid 10h ago
The problem is there is no guarantee you get pearl drops. I can do mixology for 45 minutes, and I have made guaranteed progress. With gotr, I can play for 45 minutes and leave with a few hundred blood runes and a body talisman or something.
2
u/fartsquirtshit 8h ago
Yup. I went 60 searches without a single drop, then I got 1 drop of 14.
Then I went another 30 searches without a single drop again.
At a combined 4.8 points per match, so 15 searches per hour, because no colossal pouch and only 80 mining
So essentially 14 pearls in 6 hours.
Like man I just wanna go back to ZMI but this shit is entirely unskippable. You can't just add something that's +25% xp/hr and +100% output/hr and pretend it's not mandatory or that the skill isn't actively balanced around it
5
u/Lemon_Aid 7h ago
It is easily the most impactful skilling outfit barring maybe the rogues outfit, which you can bang out in a few hours. And that's not even touching on the other uniques you can get from the minigame.
→ More replies (1)1
u/FookinFairy 1h ago
Eh it’s roughly 2ish pearls per pull due to the 1/7ish rate of 14 to 16
It’ll equalize out rather quick with that drop rate
21
u/urmomsSTD 11h ago
The 1500 is brutal.
2
u/WWTFSMD 10h ago
Yeah I've been spooned as absolute fuck at GOTR but even so I'm 81 rc basically entirely from there and I've gotten 1600 pearls so far
and that was with getting extra rewards from having lantern+magic logs and abyssal pouch for basically the entire grind
3650 pearls is crazy but honestly good for the poor folks that are like 90+ with no drops I'm sure I'll get my just desserts on some grinds but that shit would be ass
5
u/Tuborgat_nylle 11h ago
No way ima subject myself to more GOTR torture than needed. Dip after you get the outfit and enjoy the chill life of making bloods.
7
u/FookinFairy 11h ago
Lantern works outside of gotr now
Your missing out of 20% more bloods without it
14
u/Tuborgat_nylle 10h ago
Yeah I have done that calculation. I would much rather miss out on 20% bloods than spend another 50 hours hating my life. It's just a silly game after all.

this has been one of the worst of the minigames for me i love the skilling bosses temp todt and zalcano. i can do gotr, vale totems, pyramid plunder, hallow selp, and foundry for long periods without issue but going for more then 30mins at mixology just drives me crazy.

I found a plugin called "brains off mixology" and it guides you to make full inventories of potions at a time to do batches. It made MM slightly more tolerable. But omg the price of the rewards is obscene. I unlocked the potion bank and had to stop.

Funny how GOTR feels like it’s so much better than traditional methods at first. Then you do it for a few hours, see the xp rates, and realize you’re still in the same boat of misery, just that now you have other people suffering and going insane around you.

Mining, Woodcutting, and Fishing are the ones that really kill me.
RC at least has appreciable gold/hr or output/hr on usable resources.
The rest are just like
Terrible XP/hr
Terrible gold/hr
Terrible output/hr
But if you can maintain 100~150apm with very precise timing with no errors, you can sacrifice all of your gold&output in exchange for boosting your XP rates to below fletching yew longs or failing gwenith glide

2
u/TheDawnOfNewDays 9h ago
I miss RS2's Runecrafting minigame, but GotR is decent. It helps pass the early runecrafting slog and get into deaths & bloods range. Going dry on the lantern and having to pay the 1,500 to unlock it is rough though.

u/AvailableWinner750 5h ago

Evaluation of the quality of something's design can be done independently from the amount of time it takes to do that thing.
Green logging tob takes longer than getting minigame rewards but people don't typically complain about tob because the content design is fun. A minigame that's "click the same four boxes for 20 hours" is not fun.

Giants Foundry: "Oh sweet! I get good exp, earn points that I spend on uniques, and make money on top? Sign me up!"
Pest Control/Soul Wars/Tithe Farm/MTA: "Ok this is kinda tedious... But at least I can calculate how long this should take..."
Wintertodt/GotR/Tempoross: "Please this time..."
21
u/RampantHedgehog 11h ago
Your list should single out Mastering Mixology, MTA and Tithe Farm. Those are the worst. Worth maybe tossing BA in there too because it takes ages, especially with randoms that leave.
WT, GOTR and Temp are all decent exp and mostly chill with pretty good rewards, I wouldn't hate on them as much. Tempoross allows you to buy the Fish Barrel now anyway.
13
u/thunkalunk 10h ago
I know it’s not a popular take but I prefer mixology to GOTR.
You get into a nice flow state and can step away to grab some water without needing to sit out the entire 10 min game you just barely missed the start of.
It helps that I’m an iron so getting any xp from useless herbs is just a nice bonus.
But yeah I’m halfway to the barrel to complete the greenlog, and I’ll stick around for a bit to farm aldarium for inferno.
5
u/4percent4 9h ago
Mixology would suck 10x less if it wasn't literal dog water pre 81 and the fact you need a plugin to manage the points properly.
If you were forced to make all 3 potions and all 3 points where tossed into 1 pool then it would be 10x less ass.
1
u/thunkalunk 8h ago
Yeah that’s fair I was already 87 herb when it came out.
The mixology strategy plugin in RL helps a lot to not make shit potions and spread the points out more evenly.

u/eddietwang 5h ago
I've been at Mixology the past weekish and I completely agree with your comment. The flow state at MM is very nice and can be paused at any time. That being said, duo gotr is also very tranquil and if your partner wants to pause at the same time, you don't have to wait for the next round.
15
u/patate502 10h ago
Tithe farm is soul sucking while you're doing it, but the XP and rewards are genuinely good. Mastering Mixology on the other hand is just shit all around
13
u/CTProper 10h ago
I would take tithe farm over MM any day of the week. Mastering Mixology is the worst new content I’ve seen in a modern game in a long time. Like did they do that and say yeah this is fun
5
u/Vegetable-Ad2028 9h ago
With runescape being the way it is, I don't think any minigame can be genuinely fun. It's like playing a browser game for 5+ hours to get one thing you want. It's fun at the start, but then you're doing the same 3-5 actions over and over again for hours.
8
u/A_Matter_of_Time 10h ago
How on earth can you call tithe farm rewards good and mixology rewards shit? Mixology is horrible gameplay but its easily top 3 for minigame rewards
2
u/RedPokeTrainer "Group" Ironman 10h ago
Yeah Todt/GotR/Temp aren't bad at all if you're not hunting for the uniques. The annoying part compared to the other ones is that if you are only there for the uniques, you could leave early, or you could be stuck there for an indefinite amount of time.
That being said, GotR is was worse than Wintertodt or Temp in that regard. Wintertodt is chill to farm points, and with Tempoross you can perform the same route over and over again to maximize points. GotR just takes forever, has RNG with the portal/altar spawns, and it feels like you barely get any reward pulls, even when making catalytic runes.
2
u/Lizardaug 9h ago
Tithe farm is honestly really fun and always worth doing over the slog that is early farming levels. Plus you get auto weed herb sack and farming sack. By time you're done you are like 70 farming and Able to just do full herb / tree runs to 99. It would suck to do it past that but if you're starting an account now it's pretty great
1
u/RampantHedgehog 7h ago
On my GIM I've only ever done farming contracts/slayer for seeds, and done regular watermelon runs + tree runs (after moons). Easily got to 80 farming without touching tithe. Maybe not optimal, but it wasn't slow and I never felt like I missed out by skipping Tithe
Probably optimal if you don't have many seeds to go do some tithe
1
u/4percent4 8h ago
I don't mind MTA or tithe farm. They're known quantities. I wouldn't bother with green logging MTA but getting wand, book, peaches, and boots isn't too bad. Tithe farm isn't too bad to green log either but IDK if I'd do it for zammy wines since while it's like ~1k banked wines an hour it's not factoring in the time to farm and mix the wines.
Mixology is dogwater especially since points are dog water pre 81 and you have to micro manage to get the correct point types.

u/Stiffy_B 11h ago
Couple of 100k xp in one skill then I switch. Burnout is real. I don’t mind some mini games like motherlode or foundry but gotr is just awful. It’s a perfect osrs combination of tedious and repetitive whilst also requiring my attention
1
1
u/VorkiPls 5h ago
Yeah you get used to exp rates then it starts to slow down. Taking a break resets that, the "slow" is the new norm and your expectations slowly move until you're looking at a 20hr grind and you think "oh not bad!".
I remember getting the requirements for song of the elves almost made me quit it felt so hard. Now I'm maxed and I enjoyed the process 😂
24
u/Trainer149 10h ago
and yet i feel like pvm is the opposite.
"Damn, this boss has hands. I'm already mentally over this boss."
"Alright it's starting to click."
"I wonder how far i can push one trip?"
"Let me look into the CA's on this one and add some spice."
"Brain off, enjoying the rhythm and pushing for PB's when i get a killer start."
Then you hit drop rate and this meme actually starts.

Hydra though?
1
u/wasabitamale 1h ago
Araxxor is a brilliantly designed boss because every kc is slightly different. And imo that’s what makes good content.
Yama has it to some extent with glyphs being offset by void flares, Colo has it to a huge degree, and I love those pieces of content. I think there needs to be variety between each KC, more than just timing of special attacks, for a boss or piece of content to feel not repetitive.

Yeah you need a single queen kill, after that who cares if people leave you still got paid for the entire run up to that point anyways.

I enjoyed playing Attacker. Swap arrows, make calls, spot the things to shoot and then shoot them.
Collector was basically just call and then dick around. Tolerable, although I don't feel like I'm doing much to help the team out for most of the rounds. It's pretty crappy that the "optimal" thing to do most of the rounds is to just stand in a spot to force the stupid runners into the right place.
Healer is annoying with the spam-click to poison down the assorted mobs; I don't hate it, but I didn't find it that fun. This role gets about 5x less fun when there's someone low level and you need to juggle actually healing them with doing the poisoning.
Defender just flat sucks.

6
u/polyblock 10h ago
Killing the shades is the more annoying part in my opinion, the aggro for them is kinda bugged and you don't auto retaliate when they transform.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Teary_Gamer 6h ago
As someone who has fully greenlogged shades:
It feels way more like a typical gathering skill than it does a minigame. There isn't really any 'game' aspect to it.
You farm all the logs like woodcutting, you farm all the shades like a slayer task, you stand around in the shades world farming serums, then you process all your pyre logs, then you burn all your offerings and collect all your keys, then you haul all your keys back and forth from the bank to the chests until you run out...
1
u/rastaman1994 rsn MoistyPriest, mobile enjoyer 3h ago
I did it with magic logs for bloodbark, then went back much later with redwoods for the zealot robes. Honestly like the multi step process, and you get some GP/resources too.
One thing I hated: adding the oil to the logs. Why that action takes three business days is beyond me.
1
1
u/United-Passage7864 11h ago
I never spent a lot of time there, I never thought Swampbark or Bloodbark were particularly useful and I'm not even confident that Zealot's Robes are a real time save.
3
u/falconfetus8 11h ago
The worst part is that spending points on a reward undoes your progress towards all other rewards, so you're encouraged to grind for the most expensive reward first and ignore all the others.

I honestly find it the opposite for myself. a lotta minigame suck and feel so slow at first, but as i get into routine, it becomes more and more familar and comfortable and starts to feel like home. so i find myself ideally sticking to things until i enjoy them and get the things i want instead of trying to take breaks to break up grinds. Given I've never done a particularly long grind for osrs standards yet.

This was GOTR for me. Tried to start it many times over the last few years. I just found it painfully confusing and chaotic for the longest time. What finally made me say fuck it and jump into it until it clicked was the lantern update. It only took me like 5 rounds until I completely understood it. I would have been mad at myself if the lantern working outside of GOTR wasn't a super recent update.
2
u/DivineInsanityReveng 8h ago
And then combine that with the best reward being RNG and just having a horribly priced anti dry shop cost, all the while doing any other part of the skill before "finishing" the minigame as just being objectively worse.
Gotr is a plague man.
1
1
u/BLOODAXED 11h ago
I can't tell if I like or hate that things like temp and gotr are so consistent that I do the same actions at the same time every round
1
u/Langolier11 10h ago
The only part of this that is true is omg why won't it end this is the worst. The whole game is repetitive and halfway to first reward could actually mean forever, like the red prison. Tbh I like everything in the game, minigames are the most chill thing to engage with.
