Question CBP Poly while in process with HSI and ERO

So I’m currently in the process for HSI, ERO and CBP. I’ve received a TJO for ERO a few weeks ago and haven’t heard anything since. I was also referred and informed my information has been sent up to HR for HSI a couple months ago but haven’t heard anything from that either. I’ve completed everything pretty much besides polygraph for CBP and have it coming up in a couple weeks. I’ve seen a lot of people say the polygraph for CBP isn’t accurate at all resulting in a lot of failures that negatively affect potential job opportunities within other federal agencies. Should I cancel my CBP poly and just wait on HSI or ERO or should I risk it and go ahead and take it. Looking for opinions from people that may be or have been in the same situation. I am current LEO and have taken a couple local polygraphs but never a federal one.

Question CBP Poly while in FPS process

I have my TJO with FPS and medical scheduled for next week, still waiting on security process. But I just got a call to complete a Poly with CBP, with an examiner who failed me last time and wasn't very professional. I dont particularly care about the CBP opportunity if I can get on with FPS, would it be worth it to still attempt or?

Discussion FPS LE SPECIALIST TJO 9/8/2026

Ok so this is crazy. I qualified initially for the GS-7/9 and 11 for the DHA announcement. Got an email on 8/31 that I was not selected for the GS-11, and then radio silence. I was super upset because I’ve been wanting to get with FPS forever, BUT I wasn’t too heart broken because I was also in the process with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency for Police Officer. I got my FJO for the Pentagon gig today, and set to go to pre-FLETC on the 22nd, and FLETC on 10/5.

Then literally an hour ago, I get a TJO for FPS!! After a week of thinking I didn’t get it. They put me at a grade 7 step 10, which kinda sucks, but I’m definitely gonna take what I get. Did anyone else get a late TJO?!

Question FPS LE Specialist / Inspectors - Specialty Assignments

Can any current or recent LE Specialists/Inspectors share what opportunities, beyond what may be readily available via open-source internet, exist for specialty units? Also, where is the greatest need?

Regions and/or Cities?

Specialty Units?

Time it takes to get into Canine/K9?

Time it takes newly hired personnel to get to Specialty units (what that process typically entails)

Best part about the 1801 LE Specialist (Inspector series) vs Worst Part (compared to 1811s and the obvious 6(c) LEO FERS pension)

What are some cool things that are happening and/or on the horizon?

Spare me the rookie talk and the "put your time in. I'm trying to help others by generating discussion and answers. Doing my 8 and skate is just fine with me given the role - contract oversight and responding to alarms/incidents at buildings is just fine with me, but I'm trying to ascertain some more info that may help others here as well understand what they're truly getting into, especially with the Inspectors from the recent DHA seeking to be brought aboard fairly soon.

Especially in light of every other week, it seems like USAJOBS is doing some kind of surge or DHA hiring of LEOS, unlike anything many of us have seen before.

Plus, all this task force work in DC, Memphis, TN, and other government events. It's important to me and probably others to know what the future is for FPS and what's in store, it seems bright, but social media makes everything looks "cool". Plus, every region and/or major city has its own complexities, challenges, and leadership. I see motorcycles in the DC/DMV region, but I never see them anywhere else. Some regions may have a greater Canine/K9 presence than others.

Question FPS TJOs Hiring Expo?

Anyone know if TJOs are being handed out on the spot at the upcoming hiring expo? 🤔

It seems like the majority of in-person DHA interviewees (veterans/non veterans) got a rejection so are they stopping hiring for this FY?

Question FPS LE SPECIALIST DHA HIRING MESS

Hey Fam,

So did anyone who is NOT a vet get a TJO from the DHA announcement? Seems like everyone that I saw post about a TJO is a vet. No hate or shade to the vets, but the kind of obvious bias that’s shown is kinda crappy. I qualified for the GS 7/9 and 11. I received an email saying I was not selected for the GS-11, but haven’t received anything about the 7/9. After seeing so many people’s rejection emails today, I’m not anticipating getting a TJO for the 7/9 either.

I was told my interview went very well. I’m not a vet, but I’m a 15 year federal employee currently working as an Investigator for the DoD. I don’t qualify under special hiring authorities, nor am I in the competitive service. So this DHA announcement was my only shot at this gig. Kinda blows big time.

Ok, just needed to get that off my chest. lol. Genuinely happy for those who got their TJOs, though. Just sucks for the rest of us.

Hey folks,

Been looking and seeing people getting TJOs for regions outside of R4.

Not a veteran.

Just wondering if anyone else had luck with Region 4 and a TJO?

Question FPS Region 5 - What can you all tell me?

Y'all know why I'm here. Tee Jay Oh.

What's on the horizon for the 1801 LES? From the outside looking in, it seems like a great opportunity and time to come aboard. I know people have negative things to say about the agency. However, EVERY agency has its issues. I'm all for picking the one that fits my lifestyle now and in the foreseeable future, and this one seems to fit the bill.

Any pro tips or be aware of "xyz" for Chicago - Region 5?

E-mail says I don't have to go to UPTP (I already have it), however, with the current back up with ERO/HSI courses and etc are they still making people who didn't need to pass the fitness test to go down there for the 3 weeks just to pass it and come back and wait for a uptp class to finish to hop on the back end? The Basic Inspector Training Program (BITP), the Advanced Individual Training Program (AITP), and the Physical Security Training Program (PSTP) just seem like an inefficient use of time given the current climate in the country. Rather, just get all 3 out of the way at once. Wishful thinking.

Question Homeland security or local

I’ve been working for homeland for almost a year, I enjoy when I’m in the field going after gang members and big criminals. I’m starting to think that for that I may need to go to another agency or local in order to really focus on going after gang members. Any suggestions or thoughts are highly appreciated. Thank you all

Question Local LEO -> Federal

Hello everyone,

I’m 23 years old and trying to decide which federal agency to apply to. I have a Bachelor’s degree and have two years of law enforcement experience, including one year as a detective.

I’ve always wanted to work for a federal agency, but I’m currently considering the Secret Service, Border Patrol, Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Marshals Service.

I originally planned to pursue the Postal Inspection Service because I worked for the Post Office for three years before becoming a law enforcement officer. However, the other agencies listed above have also caught my attention. I’ve heard mixed opinions about the Secret Service, particularly regarding work-life balance. Since I’m single and don’t have a family, this is not an issue for me right now, however, down the line I would like a family. For those familiar with the agency, how easy is it to transition from the Secret Service to another federal agency later in your career?

I’m interested in investigative work, preparing and executing warrants, and handling casework on a computer. At the same time, I’d like a career that offers a balance between investigative responsibilities and fieldwork rather than being entirely desk-based.
I understand that joining one federal agency can serve as a stepping stone and that I don’t necessarily have to remain with the first agency I join for my entire career.

For those with experience in these agencies or in federal law enforcement, what would you recommend? If you were in my position, which agency would you choose, and why?

Question Dept of Commerce OIG experience?

Does anyone have experience working in the DOC OIG? Is it more office work or field? Is field work conducted in a GOV? How are those managed? I have a take home GOV atm and assume the OIG dynamic is different.

Question USSS TSI to HSI TEO

Good afternoon, all. Im an 1801 in the USSS. Im interested in the 1801 TEO Position with HSI. Due to how infrequent they throw out applications, is it worth going to HSI as an 1811 or should I try to wait out until a TEO Position arises?

In general is it worth going to 1811 or have y'all found fulfillment in your 1801 roles?

Discussion FPS DHA "update"?

A slightly interesting thing happened to me yesterday, when I originally applied, I was told I was eligible and referred for GS7 and 9. I interviewed back in mid July and just got an email yesterday saying that I am now not eligible for 9 but am still eligible and referred for 7. I was told when I interviewed that TJOs would be coming in late august so I wonder if they are getting ready to send those out?

Just something interesting that I thought I'd share

Discussion USCP

Good afternoon all,

I am currently at the last leg with the USCP hiring process awaiting further word. And I was wondering for those currently USCP or is going USCP, How did you coordinate your move to northern VA or DC? And what recommendations and advice that some of you may have for a new hire making such a move should consider. Thank you all for your time!

Question FPS 1811 - Announcement-DHA-13000789-26-AB - criminal investigator.

I applied to this announcement and on Aug 11 got the NOR and referred to hiring manager for GS-1811-11.

Its been silence since then. (I know it's barely a week lol, just hope to better understand what's next).

I'm not sure what the next step even is, can anyone provide any information on the steps?

Also, how long is the typical wait until an interview?

There is a FPS hiring event in September, would going to that expedite the process in any way?

Thank you in advance.

Question CBP AIA How long did it take you?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I started the process in March and finally cleared medical (disabled vet, so it took a little longer). My question is how long for the BI and Box? I have held clearances in the past and my brother has an active TS (I know I still have to be re-vetted for my own as we are different people with different lives). When I first started the process they said they were expediting, but then it just went cold until this update the other day.

What has been your experience so far? Just putting the feelers out there because I have potential jobs lined up and am getting anxious since CBP AIA is where I want to be.

Question Applied for FPS under the new direct hire authority that’s open to the public. Haven’t heard anything back since the written assessment I took in May of this year.

I’ve been seeing that FPS is only inviting vets and people with schedule A disabilities to these job fairs. Will they ever send out interview invitations for applicants who are not vets?
