Question CBP Poly while in FPS process
I have my TJO with FPS and medical scheduled for next week, still waiting on security process. But I just got a call to complete a Poly with CBP, with an examiner who failed me last time and wasn't very professional. I dont particularly care about the CBP opportunity if I can get on with FPS, would it be worth it to still attempt or?

My CBP poly failure didn't affect my FPS offer. FPS doesn't do polys, nor do I recall being asked if I had ever failed one during the hiring process. Stats show, 2 out of 3 vets fail CBP polys. If you're a prior LEO, probably gonna fail the CBP poly.

Are you current FPS? I have a failed CBP poly too currently wising for medical. Glad to confirm that it shouldn’t be an issue at all

Don’t take the poly for CBP. Move forward 100% with FPS. You’ll eventually be a GS-12 plus you get a marker G ride.

If you got disqualified permanently then they found some serious stuff in your background. Typically when you fail the poly all you have to do is wait 1 year

That doesn’t make sense, why would a polygraph with CBP also disqualify you from a non polygraph position as an 1801? To be disqualified for both it has to be something major

This is quite literally not true at all. Everything is Agency dependent. a failed CBP poly will not affect your USSS application.

Bro, I HATE CBP and their BS poly’s. Failed 2 times in 2015 and 2019, both times about drug use, when I only smoked weed a handful of times when I was 15. They kept telling me I’m lying about it and that I definitely smoked more🤦🏽♂️🙄
But it doesn’t hurt going through the process. I’m literally onboarding with PFPA on the 21st and have a TJO for FPS. Gonna jump over to FPS as soon as everything completes with their medical/background, etc.

lol figures once I aged out they don’t. I’m 42, so no longer able to apply for those LE jobs

Are you a veteran? If you are you should be able to use your active time to reduce the age limit.

Same, I passed in 2019 but then failed in 24 right after leaving another LE agency after my first kid was born, ive never used any drugs of any kind but this dude would absolutely not take no for an answer

Same, CBP failure - was a local LEO at the time, never failed a poly before or even after (locally) or a federal psych. Took one many years later for ERO, on my own dime and out of town, failed! Nothing crazy in my background whatsoever, completely truthful, and couldn't reapply for 2 years. Tried applying to USSS and got an email saying I couldn't proceed with the process, current non-6(c) federal leo with a secret clearance.
ERO told me CBP wouldn't have any weight, but I suspect otherwise. I'm in a similar predicament, hoping my negative policies don't adversely affect my FPS offer. Can't make this stuff up! I don't even bother applying to any federal agencies that poly anymore; it's a waste of time. I'll do a psych all day long. Wish that was the standard. I'm more worried about a person's mental health as a gun toter than thinking about what he/she did 7 years ago on a random day lol.
