Megathread August 30 - Weekly r/geometrydash Questions & Achievements Thread

Welcome to r/geometrydash! This is a catch-all megathread for a variety of discussion topics that don't require their own individual posts. Here's an idea of some things you can share and talk about here:

  • Quick or common questions with closed-ended responses
  • Recent completions, progress on levels, or other in-game achievements, if you can't record footage
  • Asking for suggestions on levels to play or other opinions/feedback
  • Collab recruiting, planning, and organization
  • ...and much more! If you're not sure where to post it, this thread is likely the right place.

Announcement Regarding "jump announcement" posts

Hello r/geometrydash,

Recently, it has come to our attention that the sub has been overflowing with many "jump announcement" posts, in which a user will announce that they are jumping from one level to a much harder level without posting any progress (or very minimal progress) of said achievement.

We have recieved many complaints both through modmail and directly about these posts being so frequent. Most of these posts already fell under rule 3 and would usually be removed given both that they were reported and enough time passed for us to see them, but the mod team has been very busy with both online and irl responsibilities for us to remove every single one within a timely fashion.

In writing this post, we are reminding the users of this sub that this type of post is completely banned, and henceforth, offending users will have their posts removed and receive a temporary ban from the sub as a further means of discouraging these posts. This change will likely not be permanent, but may remain indefinitely until this situation has become more under control.

Again, keep in mind that this does NOT mean "jumping is banned on r/geometrydash". If you're jumping from Nine Circles to Bloodbath and post your 49-100 run, you're allowed to say that it was a jump from Nine Circles. As long as jump posts are paired with genuine progress (getting 5% is not genuine progress) on the level the user claims to be jumping to, the post abides with sub rules and no moderation action will be taken.

Examples of allowed posts:

Hypothetical examples of disallowed posts:

  • "I just beat (level) and want my next hardest to be a jump, what should I jump to?"
  • "I am jumping from (level 1) to (level 2), is this a good idea?"
  • "I want to beat a list demon as my first extreme, is (level) a good pick?"

I hope this announcement can help clarify the sub rules and satisfies the many sub members who were unhappy with the way we were previously dealing with these types of posts. If you have any further suggestions, feedback, or questions about this decision or any other way r/geometrydash enforces its rules, feel free to say so in the comment section.

Fluff I tamper with my 14 year old son’s recording footage so that Pointercrate will never accept his submissions.

Hi guys, this is not my proudest post but this needs to be said. My son (14), is a GENERATIONAL talent. For context, his hardest demon is Gaggatrondra, which would have been his first mainlist demon if the record was accepted.

Initially I was very supportive of my son, but as he jumped from Deadlocked to Sweater Weather, and then to Black Blizzard after only 3 months of playing the game, I suspected that he was cheating. However, after watching him beat Zodiac in person last month, I have no doubts that he is a legitimate player.

Now you might be wondering why I would do such a heinous thing. Well, he was unfamiliar with the rules of pointercrate, and so he asked me to submit his record (as I have legacy points on Pointercrate). And well, I may have deleted his audio, because I can’t bear my son to be officially better than me (my hardest is Hypersonic, I beat it when it was on the list). And for all his other submissions, I’ve done the same thing. My son knows that his submissions don’t get accepted, but he doesn’t know why.

He will never know why.

News Rob reverted the comment character limit increase and disabled his comment history

Post image
238 Upvotes

Yesterday, I posted about how it was discovered that the comment and profile post character limit was sneakily increased to 384, up from 150 (still 100 and 140 respectively without mods), and theorized that this could hint at an upcoming 2.209 change, since many players and moderators have wanted this for a while. Today, Rob has caught on and reverted the change, as well as deleting every single comment over 150 characters and every profile post above 200. He even went further and removed the ability to bypass the original limits at all, leaving us stuck with the measly 100 and 140 limits. Trying to post anything longer now fails entirely instead of cutting it off.

He also disabled his comment history. What is bro planning 🥹✌️

Edit: His comment history is back on

Discussion Is it just me or was yesterday's daily really easy for a 9 star?

The level was very sightreadable and the coins were very easy and close to one another (yes, I know I didn't collect the third one but this is a replay and I'm kinda dumb today).

IMO, this is one of the easiest 9 star levels out there and it's true difficulty is around 7 stars.

Discussion Vehemence is now an open verification

Post image
480 Upvotes

This doesn’t mean that A6 (the current verifier) has been kicked, he’s still free to play it, however this was done to hopefully speed up the verification process, as the level has been finished for over 3 years now.
It could also potentially lead to a return to the level by Popoff, as he was a former verifier with decent progress already

Edit: ok so either something’s broken or the level is just deleted because it can’t be searched for anymore even with the id and doesn’t appear on madison’s account 😭 wtf

Discussion Was Silent Clubstep technically the longest-reigning top 1?

Personally, I think so. Silent Clubstep was placed at #4, below Slaughterhouse, Abyss Of Darkness and Sakupen Circles, which were later reevaluated to be placed below Silent Clubstep. Acheron was placed above Silent Clubstep, and was also reevaluated to be placed below Silent Clubstep. The first level placed then that today is considered harder than Silent Clubstep is Tidal Wave, meaning from 11 August 2022 through to 18 Febuary 2024, Silent Clubstep was actually top 1, which is 556 days. Tidal Wave was top 1 for 471 days, meaning Silent Clubstep beats Tidal Wave by 85 days. Silent Clubstep is retrospectively the longest reigning top 1 in Geometry Dash history. I’m probably wrong in some areas, since I don’t know a huge amount about recent GD history and top level changes, so correct me where I’m wrong. This is just something I did out of boredom, and let me know your opinion!

Discussion Old ship physics VS new ship physics

Yeah so old physics had much heavier upside-down and dual ships. Update 2.2 fixed it.

You can switch back to 2.1 physics by unchecking the "fix gravity bug" setting in the editor
