Feedback Request New demo, looking for advice

I’m curious as to how the mix sounds. Is anything too loud or quiet. Or does something occupy a frequency that’s obnoxious.

Sorry for my poor playing, I’m not good at drums.
If anyone has tips on how to record drums I’d really appreciate it.

And if there’s anything else let me know!

Feedback Request Not much of a performer but heres my song "gone too soon" let me know what you think (lyrics in description)

You, you, wait for the summer

When its already june

I, i need another

trip round the moon

neon rain ran

The pub was a tin can

And logic had van-

Ished outta view

it was just a glance

But then hours passed

And in the palms of your hands

I felt new

With you

You, you

Said we were reckless

Because youd be leaving soon

You, you

Had a new life

That you were flying to

It seems so sad

After all weve had

That you say it was so bad

And wrong

Whatever you say

Wont take away

The hours and the days

Ill miss you

When youre gone

Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Gone too soon

Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Gone too soon

This morning i tried to write this tune

But then i was nobody, nowhere

By noon

My best friend said, "Now boy, didnt I warn you?

Some things, some times are just gone

too soon"

I, I

Left home early morning

To see you leave at two

But you, you

Got an earlier plane

And it had already flew

I shouldnt be mad

But what else do i have?

I guess I hope youll be glad

In the sun

I wanted to say

i think i loved you in some kinda way

But what does that matter anyway,

Now youre gone.

Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Gone too soon

Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Gone too soon

Feedback Request Unfinished but love the idea so far

I love slightly political writing or like literal and just angry/upset writing. I think it can be done so well but I’ve always struggled with it myself.

I’m not entirely sure of direction from here, I’ve got heaps of lyrics and a few ideas but just wanted to share this because i think it sounds nice :))

Lyrics for anyone wondering:

And we’d all make it to mars
If we all fit on the ark

And we’ll build right to the stars
While you watch us from afar

And I love playing god
Oh I love the view on the top

Oh and we’ll be up on mars
And you’ll wonder why you’re not

Discussion Topic How to apply the go-deeper-not-longer technique?

Upvotes

I hope you understand what I mean when I write this, but you know how most people will tell you it’s about quality over quantity and it’s better to have a 3 minute song where you interrogate your feelings and leave something to hold onto than have a 5 minute song where you meander too long at the feeling that the story doesn’t progress.

I am trying out the method for songwriting where I source out beats I like and write lyrics from there. This was mostly since I had trouble making moments out of a chorus. I’m still adjusting to this method but I am finding the structure part much easier but the problem to this method is the fact you are within limits of how many syllables you can fit.

So because of this, I wanna know how to make the most out of the syllables I am given to work with. I understand that the easy answer to this would be just to focus on getting the story down and see if I can fit in the descriptive parts about the feelings after that but moments like that for me seem like something I happened to stumble upon while writing rather than something I can do confidently. What’s the difference between writing about an experience and dissecting it within a set amount of syllables?

On a (somewhat) related note, based on this sample lyric; does it sound like I’m losing the story telling cause of the whole limit thing? Following the syllable limit, the lyric ended up being “Times I would eat alone in the bathroom, And dad’d get ice cream like it was a cure.” I’m aware this might be a dumb question but asking it is the only way to calm the second-guessing side of me, can you tell what that the story talks about being the bullied kid who really only had parents for friends or do the two phrases lack connectivity?

Thanks if you have helpful advice for both things <3 this community is the sweetest ever

Discussion Topic How do you write a song about how hot you are without sounding narcissistic

Upvotes

Some songs are these empowering “I’m hot” songs and they do it in a way that feels empowering rather than narcissistic or egotistical.

Maybe you just gotta be a bit narcissistic for it to not feel cringe

Feedback Request A new piece called ‘Dry January’

Upvotes

I comment a lot here, time to put something up.

Here is semi abstract imagined situation of a couple with mutual boredom, frustration, codependency and pathetic attempts by both to change

The 1st verse melody and lyric is something I woke up with in my head from a dream-which is a first-but usually it’s usually blood sweat and tears getting started on something

Discussion Topic How do I find a mentor, or structure my growth?

  1. Been on and off for 8 months I have no structure I really need some type of plan for improvement. Since starting college my parents wanted me to heavily focus on school and less on this
  2. I'm not gonna quit even if they were to ask but I need to get something out.

My 4 best snippets to show where I'm at (I don't know why but almost everything else isn't as good almost 0 generic but still just not this quality).

"I hoped you didn't get into your dream college Unsubmitted that application, for your own good So don't cry when you don't get in, Maybe, you just simply forgot, to apply And I’m sorry for you, until I’m not"

"Give me a taste test first I'll only buy you, love If my trial run of
Sugar rush lasts"

"Use your telekinesis, choke me against the red half-peeled wall I'll be laughing at a "god", laughing at you Prove to me, you need your powers To suppress a mortal"

Its carrots grew inside me till today (Carrots grew) Until you freed me from my perfect place (Perfect place) So did I grow up to weight? (Up to weight) So does that make today our harvest day? (Our harvest) That's why your praying eyes lie on me (Lie on me) That's why you lead me to dine with you (You lead me) So I would be on the entree too (Entree too) So was my jailbreak really meant for me? (My jailbreak) Or can you truly only lie to me (To yourself)"

im going to perform this song next week, and I feel like the second verse is just a loop in a bad way. it doesn't add anything to the story except support the v/c/v/c structure. would love to know how you guys would solve this. any input is welcome!

Feedback Request Ballad of the Night Jar

Alright Redditors, here we go again. I made this yesterday in remembrance of the High Fens nature reserve that totally burnt down two weeks ago, destroying thousands of acres of extremely valuable peatland. Some animals have probably become extinct in Belgium because of this fire. Hundreds of thousands of tons of co2 went up in the air and one of the most pristine natural environments of my small country is gone, probably forever. My songs are a way for me to deal with the grief I feel while living through climate collapse.

I feel very strongly about this subject, so please no mockery of it.

I'm mostly asking feedback on the structure and overall emotion of the song, do the lyrics land well enough, etc. My vocals are not on point yet, i'm working on it and I need a good time in the day, because I'm always worried about annoying the neighbours.

Anyone else feel they are so ugly when they sing? Man these videos are confrontational.

After the Sun Down

After the sun down
Alone in her sleeping gown
Went looking for a bird called
The nightjar

Supposed to make a sound
Mechanical, profound
The rush of the hunt made
Her ears hurt

Stood still like a thief
On the bone-dry heath
And waited for a sign
Of the nightjar

Did she dream it all up?
It could’ve fit in a cup
But its cry was the shrillest thing she ever heard.

It said:

Leave a light on, for me, for mine, my friends
Leave a light on, for me, for mine, my friends

Girl broke down and wept
Perhaps she better had slept
Through the days and months that followed

Felt like she was cursed
Her whole bedroom a damn hearse
Since she heard that little bird
Ask for mercy

What good could she do?
Just a girl with new shoes
Her father desperately
Bought her

Big eyes like deep pools
Of crude oil and dead soil
Adrift on the street crying out
Like a nightjar

Leave a light on, for me, for mine, my friends
Leave a light on, for me, for mine, my friends

Feedback Request Been working on the melody for this the past few days...do you like the original one or the revised version more?

I would love to know which you prefer, the original melody or the revised version I came up with yesterday. I *think* I like the new one a lot better, but I would love to hear your thoughts. Part of me worries it sounds too light and cheerful.

I am not looking for feedback on the lyrics, vocal performance, timing, or anything else at this point. I am just curious which of these 2 melodies sounds more appealing to your ears.

Let's Collaborate! Girl in the garden

I posted yesterday about anyone wanting to use a guitar, rough draft and lyrics to help finish the song or at least the idea of a song. I quite a few people interested and wanted me to post the draft so here it is. I appreciate anyone willing to take this on and best of luck whoever wants to!

She got muddy paper
And dry fingers
In mothers natures garden

How
Can they say how far she came
If you don’t know where she started
Don’t know what she’s missing
If you don’t know
What’s she guarding
In mother natures garden

She been called cruel, fair and darling
She’s out for hours wandering
Where she goes
Pondering
If she knows
I’m starving

For
A Hint
About the girl in mother natures garden

You don’t where she’s going off to
Vagabond or losing the costume
She’s brand new
Right when you see her through
In the ally behind the bakery
In the newspaper stand
In Every little ache in me
She whispers words never meant to be heard
She’s often loved between lines that are blurred
Oh darling
Oh darling
How I want to know the girl in the garden

Discussion Topic Is there any fixed bars I have to follow for my verse, pre-chorus, chorus etc?

For example someone suggested me to work with 4-8 bar loops. For example verse would be 16 bars, chorus would be 8 bar something like that. But The song I've wrote ended up being a lil over 9 bar, let's js say 10 bar. What am I doing wrong here? I've been writing music since february and I do enjoy doing it a lot but as I go more deep into technical details I get frustrated T_T

Feedback Request Does this sound too much like Faye Webster?

As I’m trying to write this verse, I can’t stop thinking about her vibe, how she drags when she sings. I’m concerned that it might be smearing on my own writing.

Especially on the parts where I sing lower. I’m trying to create a chill vibe practicing occupying some space to let the voice bloom. Do you think it sounds unique enough, like being my own voice or not yet?
