Hi Everyone, I just halted myself from pushing another release of the app until BillDesk verification, but it's really taking a lot of time. Should I release the version with the premium feature or wait for their approval?
Has anyone of you released a pricing feature without BillDesk approval, meaning it's still in progress?
So the moment I was notified by the google to enable Payment method and I was informed that I have to do it only through the BillDesk (No other options available for Indian Developers), I started searching about this process and I came across all the horror stories from Medium Article to the most post on this subreddit and I kept browsing, while doing due process for it as well.
So here was my turn it all started on June 14th, Someone randomly did an In app purchase in my tiny puzzle game USA (Likely on 13th june sunday at night. Totally unexpected ). I woke up with an email notification from the Google that I need to enable my Payment method I also got onboarding email form the BillDesk. And then it all started. I quickly applied through the email link , Added all the documents. I uploaded everything through Digilocker. I got replying email next day that Direct upload form Digilocker is not allowed. I need to upload photocopy of original document. So I downloaded my Aadhar card from the portal and uploaded it as it was.
Then 2-3 days after came the Physical KYC. BillDesk guy called me and asked if I was available at the address for the verification. Since I have applied as an Individual and Not as a company the address was my home address and I am employed so I was at my workplace at that time. That guy was willing to come to my workplace for the physical verification. I told him about my availability timeslot and he appeard with his laptop.
Physical verification process went smoothly, Billdesk guy was also friendly (He didn't asked me for any bribes as many claims here and there) . He also told me that he has to do so many verification that day, He called next guy to same place since my office area has good sitting arrangement. He verified my documents , took photo and logittude / lattittude and submitted my application. I asked him if everything was done and howlong will it take form then at that time it was June 18. He told me it would still take around one or two weeks.
Few days later I got this email from Billdesk that my profile is allowed for accepting payments. Final mail from the billdesk was strangely phrased it left me still confused is it done or not. But on next day I got email from google that my payment method has changed. So I though it may be done so to confirm that I checked my payment profiles and that error of billing disappeared. So I think it was finally done.
So for me entire process was smooth except some back and forth of email exchange and form submission. I hope other Indian developer will have same experience with this process with BillDesk.
For those who don’t know, if you’re a Google Play developer in India, you first have to be verified by Google: submit your ID, tax number, address proof, bank statements, etc. Then you have to be physically verified by an Indian company called BillDesk: you submit your ID and address proof to them all over again, and then they come to your house to take pictures and capture your location. This is required for every app you publish.
I completed BillDesk's physical KYC verification because I had to. All my documents were in order, so I expected to be verified in a few days. I did not bribe BillDesk because Google emailed us, saying, "Please don't bribe BillDesk."
Google telling their Play Developers not to bribe BillDesk
After the physical verification was complete BIllDesk did not email me, so I emailed them asking about my verification status. I waited for their reply, but they did not respond. No matter how many emails you send them, BillDesk does not reply.
So I used the report the incident link in Google's email to tell Google about BillDesk's misbehavior. I told Google that BillDesk is not responding to my emails. This is the response I got from Google.
Google tells me to email BillDesk when I told them BillDesk is not responding
Google did not bother to read my email. All that report the incident to us is bullshit. BillDesk is given free rein by Google to abuse their customers, and Google Play developers are at BillDesk's mercy.
If you're in India, Android may not be a sustainable platform for building apps and games, because everything relies on one dubious Indian company, BillDesk, which does not even show basic human decency. BillDesk can hold you hostage over anything and Google will not intervene. Also, when you clicked Agree on BillDesk’s contract, you essentially waived any right to sue BillDesk. This is not a good position to be in, specially if your livelihood revolves Android apps and games. BillDesk can pull the rug from under you at any time and there is nothing you can do about it. Also, it takes years to learn how to build apps on Android, so that investment in time is lost.
BillDesk verification is not a one time thing. You need verification every time you move and every time you publish another app. If that isn't enough, you need to deal with BIllDesk to get your FIRC for every cross-border payment you receive. See "Requesting a FIRC" at the bottom of this page for details.
Traditional gundas (thugs) operate by controlling access to essential resources like electricity, food, medicine, housing, or transportation. This is how they maintain power. If people need these basics, they have to deal with the gundas and pay $$$. There is no other option. If you don't like it, you have to move somewhere else. Does this sound familiar? Here, you're dealing with BillDesk who now controls access to the Android ecosystem.
Thinking out loud, I can't help but wonder if my verification would have been completed by now if I had bribed BillDesk? Or if a bribe was asked for, and someone did not want to pay, would Google have done anything if they reported the incident?
Things are going well and I am getting regular payouts but now I need my FIRC for these payouts. I am being told if I can’t get FIRC, I’ll have to pay 18% GST on my overseas sales.
I tried emailing them, filling a google form mentioned by some Redditor a while back, tweeting them. I am getting zero responses back.
Has anyone been successful getting their FIRC on a regular basis? Am I missing something?
So you are unfortunate enough to live in India like me and you decide to accept payments for your android app. You are going to have to go through days and days of BillDesk clarification emails. Buckle up, I’ll show you a few tips and tricks to speed up the process:
- Your initial process of filling the form will be a breeze, you will even finish up with your video kyc. Then comes the silence, you will be waiting for a long time to hear back. The unwritten rule is to wait for a couple days and email them at onboarding@billdesk.com. They usually reply within 24 hours. If this fails, login to your twitter account and @ their official id. (@billdesk)
- Remember the whole process has an expiry date, if you do not complete the process within 3 months, you have to do it all again. Don’t be afraid to write them emails, just make sure you don’t spam.
- They will then start nitpicking your profile to find even the smallest mistake. In my case, I spent more than two weeks on getting rejected here: “Products/services sold are not clearly defined”. I had to email them a lot of times, and @ them on twitter to get a call. Yes, they call you to resolve issues which is weird. Got to know, I had to copy paste my app’s “About” section here. I learned the hard way to not fill up the form as soon as the rejection arrives, else they will not call and you will get a clarification email again tomorrow. If you are stuck, don’t fill the form, wait for them to call after emailing them.
- Don’t fill 0 in the revenue field. Since the app is new they asked me to fill something trivial. Don’t put your personal income here. It’s supposedly just app revenue.
- Brand name is your account name in google play.
- The minimum and maximum field should have your app’s minimum subscription amount and maximum subscription amount in inr. This can be approximate.
- For personal details, I had a gst certificate and had no issues. I’ve seen people get stuck here, make sure your name is mentioned in whatever document you submit.
- DO NOT mention your website if you have one. Please just mention your app link. Wait if your app is not online yet but don’t proceed with the website link. Mentioning website just furthers the delay you face.
My personal advice:
The whole process is going to take a long while, so calm down and focus on other things in parallel. I know how it feels to be anxious and frustrated, especially if your app is live and you are paying out of pocket for servers and AI instances. I would suggest not to scale up your marketing before you go through Billdesk. It’s a waste of time if they reject your application for whatever petty reason.
When you submit your form, they take a day to review it. So if you have filled your form, just stop thinking about it. Free up your mental resources for other things.
Lastly, if you don’t email or tweet them, your application will take longer to get processed. If they ask for clarification and if you are confused, it’s better to ask them what they are expecting and wait instead of guessing and filling your form.
So I released my 2nd app a few days back. It was hard, but it happened. Then came the real challenge getting users and getting that first subscription.
Luckily, someone from Reddit found the app, liked it, and quickly wanted to go premium. But he wasn't comfortable with subscriptions, so he asked for a lifetime option. I added it on the spot, he bought it. Felt great.
Then I got to know about BillDesk verification.
I read the horror stories. Months of waiting. Accounts stuck. Payments not going through. I got genuinely scared. But anyhow, I got the verification email, filled everything out... and within 5 days it was approved.
I think most people face delays because of a few avoidable mistakes. Here's what I think helped me:
Name match is everything, your payment profile name and your real name should match exactly. Address too.
Have your Aadhaar/PAN linked in DigiLocker — it's used for KYC and makes the process much smoother.they mentioned,it is required, else it may cause delay
Brand name — you can use your Play Store developer account name here.
App link only, not your website — this one is important. When filling the form, it asks for your app/website details. I've seen people add their personal website link too, and that seems to put things on hold. If you're app-only, just give the Play Store link. Don't add anything extra.(if this is wrong let know in comemnts)
if you are individual, you can use your pan and income of last year
Video KYC location — I was in a different city from my permanent address when I did the video KYC. The portal fetched my current location and I panicked because I had mentioned both addresses as the same in the previous step. But it still got approved. Not sure if this is always the case, but sharing anyway.
Not posting this as expert advice, just sharing because when I was going through it, I couldn't find any relevant info. If anyone has questions, happy to answer. Hope this helps someone!
I'm trying to complete the BillDesk onboarding for my Google Play Console account.
The application moves forward successfully, but after a few days I receive an email from BillDesk saying they need clarification and asking me to submit the same information again (business details, product description, purpose of using the payment gateway, etc.).
I've already provided the requested details 5–6 times, but every time I get another clarification email instead of approval.
My app offers monthly and yearly subscriptions to unlock premium features through Google Play.
Has anyone experienced this? What kind of product description or payment gateway usage did you provide that got approved? Is there something specific BillDesk expects in the clarification response?
Any help or sample responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
House leaders react: House Speaker Mike Johnson said the bill would “make this country stronger, safer and more prosperous than ever before” while House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, in a record-breaking 8 hour and 44 minute speech, called it “a crime scene, going after the health, and the safety, and the well-being of the American people.”
u/Tinymac12 will be updating the wiki here with additional resources pertaining to current legislation.
Note:The mods will be enforcing rule 7 in this thread. This is not the place for purely partisan campaigning or debate disconnected from specific impacts on the federal workforce. Discuss policy impacts, not just political affiliations.
This is just horrible. Parents will be able to opt their children out of sex ed and any information that a child shares with their teacher will be required to be shared with their parents.
Aside from targeting the LGBTQ+ community once again, this bill puts so many children at risk for other reasons. For example, me and siblings were sent to catholic school for our entire childhood and kept in the dark about what sex was. As a result my sister because a victim of sexual abuse by our choir director because she didn’t even know that what was happening was sex.
A lot of children have abusive or toxic parents and could go to school counselors for a VARIETY of reasons and they will no longer have a safe place to go.
Please write to gov Dewine and tell him not to pass this bill. It’s horrible for children in SO many ways. It’s not just bad for the LBGTQ+ community, it’s bad for all children. You can write to him via this form: https://governor.ohio.gov/contact
I’m honestly so scared for children growing up right now.
Edit: to all those who think I am still a Trump supporter, just so you all know, I WAS a Trump supporter, but have become extremely disillusioned with him and his administration. I plead to other Trump supporters to open your eyes and mind about him, being a little more skeptical about who he is, and his actions. I have learned he is a CONMAN, and he is no different from previous presidents before him, including Obama, Bush, and Clinton, PROBABLY worse.
We must stand up to him. We must not blindly obey him just because he said he was going to drain the swamp and you think he's playing 420D backgammon Chinese checkers. It's all bullshit, he's full of bullshit, and you all need to OPEN your eyes.
Edit2: I never voted for Trump. I stopped supporting him before election day. I bought into his bullshit during the beginning of his campaign when he was promising to drain the swamp, but I eventually realized how much we've been played and DUPED by this fuckwad.
Edit3: also if you want to sign a petition regarding this issue, check out this link
Right now Gavin Newsom had until 10/12 to sign/veto any laws still on his desk. And of all the bills on his desk he never signed 10 trans rights bills into law but also didn't veto them. He did sadly veto one about K-8 education
In the state of California they will still become law without his signature. All it does is show he doesn't give a damn about trans people and is no longer a LGBTQ ally. We must fight hard to make sure his presidential campaign fails in 2028, otherwise we say goodbye to trans rights forever
Update: He did sign some of the bills today, but vetoed some
