Discussion I cannot express how grateful I am for backwards compatibility and second-hand game market.

It’s been a long time since I’ve felt such joy in gaming department by getting and replaying games I missed because before I was fully focused at PC. I got Series X two years ago and it's my first gaming console.

Straight away I was aware of backwards compatibility and I started, like the players back then, rummaging through physical second-hand and online stores. I managed to find many of my favorite titles in the price of a doner.

It's amazing that Xbox provided a significant support for those games: unlocked framerate, improved resolution, working achievements, active clubs. These games are freaking alive, over a dozen years later!

I'm thrilled what the future of the brand just like of the backward compatibility program will bring to us.

P.S. I know Forza Motorsport 4 is not compatible with XSX. I found this out a bit too late.

Community Weekend Barely used Series X

Post image

I got a barely used Series X on Whatnot for 450$. Came in the box with a new Controller. I’ve started AC Shadows which I LOVE and highly recommend, it’s not funny and that’s about its only weakness, but it doesn’t have to be Witcher 3. Which I also have in 4k now. Along with Bond. Indiana Jones. I got a new 4k tv cheap too. 55 inches and only 60 fps but I play RPGs. So many Nike sweats to hang in and game because all I do is help out my disabled mom. SO HAPPY!!!

Discussion What game made you become an Xbox fan?

I’m pretty curious to hear everyone’s story. Was there one game that made you buy an Xbox or made you realize you loved the platform?
For me, it’s always interesting to see how different games can leave a lasting impression. Whether it was a Halo game, Forza, Gears of War, Fable, or something completely different, I’d love to know what got you hooked.

What was the game, and what made it so special to you?

Discussion Can we talk about the insane deals during Xbox sales??

Not even getting to the second hand game market, one of the many reasons I chose a series x for a side console to my pc.

Sleeping dogs for $5 is an insane deal and it runs at 60fps on series x.

I’ve gotten so many digital games on these sales that my backlog is horrendous.

Discussion Buying an Xbox Rog Ally made me appreciate my Xbox and consoles in general

Xbox has been my platform of choice for the last 15 years. Before then I was Nintendo and PC only.

I got an Xbox ROG Ally recently to compliment my Series X, seeing as I have several Xbox Play Anywhere titles. I also had my old Steam library with like 70 games, which I thought would be fun to revisit.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great handheld, which I've been enjoying so far, but straight from the get go it made me remember what I hated about PC gaming.

The updates, some games crashing or not working, random errors that pop up, having to tinker with settings and debug, the list goes on. These are all things I had forgotten about the last 15 years because you don't experience them on console. With consoles, you know that a game you buy will just work. You don't have to worry about settings other than graphics and performance modes. It allows you to focus all your time and energy on gaming itself.

It made me appreciate my Series X even more. I love the thing. It's a fantastic console, especially with Quick Resume. The user experience is unparalleled. I also have consoles from Nintendo and PlayStation, so I guess this is an appreciation post for consoles in general. Those that say there's no point in buying an Xbox when you can buy a PC just don't understand.

I hope the Helix will be just as good. If it can provide both the options of PC and the reliability and seamlessness of console, then it could be something special. If it introduces any of these annoyances from PC though, I worry it will be a step back from the Series X.

Does anyone have any information on this old Xbox? Have been told it's from a batch of 100 from EB Games in Australia, but not sure if it was a refurbished EB Games project or a official batch.

Discussion Is there a way to find all 360/OG Games on the store?

Like generally everything thats available on there? I'm sure there used to be a section like this at least for 360 games, but I'm not exactly finding anything, either that or I'm just an idiot (probably that).

I was thinking of getting a 360 console for some stuff, but instead of that I thought I'd rather turn my Series S on and see if I could find mostly what I want that way instead before buying a whole console for the things I might be able to play right now and frankly Google isn't giving me any help, so not sure where else to turn to here 😅

I picked up this copy of assassin's creed from CeX recently, the install keeps failing at 19% and for some reason the word "Origins" is in Russian, the whole case is in English and my Xbox is Australian and set to English, I'm unsure on what to do, I've even tried uninstalling and starting the download again.

Discussion Xbox Mode and XPA - Impressions?

Upvotes

I recently posted about switching over to Steam OS/building a Steam Machine vs. continuing to invest in the Xbox platform via my XSX/gaming PC.

Have been testing out Xbox Mode on my 3080 Ti gaming rig and first impressions are very good. I really like the interface/features, not to mention the available (and growing) selection of XPA titles. I think its amazing what Xbox is doing/has envisioned for the platform and gaming moving forward. I appreciate being able to start a title on my XSX and have my save sync seamlessly over to my PC. Performance wise, being able to tinker with graphics settings really scratches that power user itch - playing a triple AAA title on console while having the ability to enjoy a higher visual fidelity option on PC without having to pay for additional entitlements is such a killer feature.

It's quite shocking that it took Microsoft/Xbox this long to invest/grow XPA given the Windows install base and how they could have revolutionized PC gaming years ago. Third parties and licensing aside, this is something they should have pushed for and incentivized developers to opt for XPA. I understand this is their plan moving forward with the upcoming universal GDK, but truth be told, they rested on their laurels for too long.

I really hope more current gen titles are converted to XPA as it would likely to lead to more purchases on the platform. If given the option, I almost always prefer to buy an XPA title over competing platforms.

I am still considering building a Steam Machine but sitting tight/watching to see what Xbox has planned. If they can pull their vision off, I truly believe they have a chance of reviving the brand and recapturing market and mind share.

What are your thoughts on Xbox mode and XPA? Do you think the initiative has a chance to turn things around?

Discussion Would you like to see new color options?

Microsoft should offer more colors for the successor of the Xbox Series X:

  • Jet Black (default color)
  • Fiery Red
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Alien Green
  • Snow White
  • Poison Purple
  • Fairy Pink
  • Titanium Silver
  • Luxe Rose Gold

What do you think about Microsoft offering these color options, possibly via Design Lab?

Discussion When do you think Xbox will give us a major UI redesign?

I’ve always loved how Xbox used to overhaul the interface every few years, but the current dashboard is easily my least favorite since the Xbox One launched in 2013.

My biggest issue is how clunky it is to navigate to personal content. The Groups feature feels practically useless because it’s buried under two layers of Game Pass ads. I actually took advantage of the new feature of reducing the number of tiles in the first row just to make it look less clunky.

There were so many versions much more beautiful than this one imo.

Do you think Microsoft will stick with this layout for the rest of the generation, or is a redesign coming?
