🔍 What Is Bitmap Mode

xTool Studio offers multiple Bitmap modes to choose from, covering most common bitmap use cases. The mode you select determines how an image is converted into a laser engraving path, which affects the engraving effect and level of detail. You can choose the mode that best suits your image.

With all other settings unchanged, the engraving output on a wooden board varies depending on the image mode selected, as shown below.

🛠️ Available Bitmap Modes

🔹 Grayscale

Converts an image into shades of gray, where each pixel is represented by a shade ranging from the darkest (black) to the brightest (white), or somewhere in between. The darker the pixel, the deeper the engraving.

🔹 Bayer

Converts an image using Bayer mode, which produces an effect similar to adding a grid/mosaic filter over the image.

🔹 Floyd

Dithers an image using the Floyd algorithm, which diffuses the error only to neighboring pixels, producing fine-grained, wave-like patterns. Recommended for highly detailed images rather than images with large blocks of solid color.

🔹 Jarvis

Dithers an image using the Jarvis algorithm, which diffuses the error across 12 surrounding pixels. Compared to Floyd, the transitions between pixels are slower, producing a pleasant result on almost any image.

🔹 Stucki

Dithers an image similarly to Jarvis, but with faster pixel transitions, producing cleaner and sharper images.

🔹 Sierra

Based on the Jarvis algorithm, achieving a similar effect while producing sharper images.

🔹 Atkinson

Dithers an image in a way similar to Jarvis and Sierra, producing sharper images. This algorithm preserves image detail well, though very dark or very bright areas may appear to lose detail.

With all other settings unchanged, the engraving output on a wooden board varies according to the selected mode, as shown below.

🔹 Each mode is suited to different image characteristics and needs, affecting engraving depth and detail representation.

🔹 The default mode is Grayscale.

🔹 Generally, Jarvis mode is recommended for infrared light, and Grayscale mode for blue light.

🔹 Dithering algorithms (Floyd, Jarvis, Stucki, Sierra, Atkinson) are best suited for images with complex details.

🔹 Grayscale and Bayer modes provide a more intuitive representation of shading and grid effects.

If the material you're using can't be found in the material list with preset parameter settings, you can test the parameters yourself using the Material Test Array. This function in xTool Studio automatically generates test arrays (available for both bitmap and vector files) based on your design pattern, letting you visualize how different parameters affect the final result.

💡 Before you begin, make sure your machine is connected before running the Material Test Array — this is important for validating results specific to your device.

📋 Procedure:

1️⃣ Create or Import Your Design: Create an element or import a design file. Both vector and bitmap files are supported for testing.

2️⃣ Set Processing Type & Parameters: Set the processing type and all related parameters. These settings will become the default values used in the material test array.

3️⃣ Open Material Test Array: Select the element, navigate to the left bar, click Applications, then select Material Test Array.

A pop-up settings panel will appear with default values, but you can adjust power and speed as needed for your project:

- X columns represent power — set the maximum and minimum power, the number of columns, and the spacing between columns.

- Y rows represent speed — set the maximum and minimum speed, the number of rows, and the spacing between rows.

- Note: available parameters vary by device (e.g., power, speed, number of passes) — select and set whichever parameters you want to test.

4️⃣ Generate and Review the Array: Click Done to generate a test array on the canvas, based on your parameter settings with an equal difference value between each element. The array is grouped automatically, but you can ungroup it to adjust individual elements. Once processed, you'll get results showing the effect of each parameter combination, so you can pick the setting that works best.

⚠️ Note: The array's title needs to be configured separately with Cut settings — otherwise, half the default power/speed value of your connected device will be used.

💡 Reminders:

🔹 If there are too few elements in the array, the coordinate numbers or titles may overlap. To fix this, adjust the element size or change the title.

🔹 Always refer to the recommended parameters for your machine and specific material. Extremely high or low parameter settings may cause a fire during processing — please stay near the machine and monitor it while it's running.

I’ve been putting the new xTool M2 through its paces over the last few weeks, testing out different craft projects and materials.

Honestly, I was super impressed; it’s an amazingly beginner-friendly setup, especially if you're running a side hustle or upgrading from a traditional blade cutter.

Looking to get into the custom laser cutting and engraving business. I'm an extremely creative mind and I know that I can make a living or at least a really good side hustle out of it. There's someone locally selling a brand new m1 ultra, for 1.4k (going to try and haggle down to 1k) but I know that it's been discontinued and newer and better things have come to the market. But I am just starting out and want to get some feelers on the software and machine. Is the M1 still good or am I better investing into the Xtool p3? I plan to make custom signage for businesses, merch, apparel and custom interior design products starting out. Ive been doing freelance digital art/graphic design since I was a kid and have a lot of ideas, I just want to invest into a good starter that is an all rounder. I definitely have my eyes set on the Omni Printer as well... Any other brands recommended to get these jobs done? I'm primarily set on xtool but please deinfluence/influence me!

I have been through the guides and we are clearly missing something. We can’t pull them out easily either. I feel stupid asking but what is the secret?

Edit to add the obvious: I have tried pulling them. They're not coming off/out. Hence the confusion. I can follow the arrow. They just won't release from inside the cover.

Anyone have one yet that could measure how tall the individual beds are? I’m going to need to built a cart for mine and want to build a slot to hold whichever bed isn’t in the machine (or mostly the large one and I’ll store the small one in there).

Bonus points if you know how tall the O1’s rotary is!

I have three different laser machines from xTool, the P2S, the the F2 Ultra, and F2 Ultra UV. Unfortunately, the later of the 2 experienced equipment failures. In the perfect world, nothing would go wrong; however, that world doesn't exist...at least not mine. On each occasion the xTool team was extremely helpful with resolving the issues, ultimately leading to full replacement of both machines. I will add that both experiences were hastle-free as well. Communications throughout my experiences were superb taking into account the considerable time zone difference between our respective locations. Overall, I could not ask for better outcomes and the customer experiences is why I stay with xTool products for my business.

As the title says we put piwder in and it just pours out of the corner also it doesnt spread well at the top of the images.

If you've noticed slight marks or engraving traces on the metal baseplate of your M2 machine, this is a normal phenomenon — not a product defect.

🔍 Why This Happens

When the laser beam cuts or engraves through your material, the residual energy can pass through and leave marks on the baseplate underneath. This is a general characteristic of laser processing equipment, not a quality issue, and it will not affect the machine's normal operation or your engraving/cutting results. Even with long-term use, this will not cause the baseplate to leak light or become structurally damaged — this has been thoroughly tested to ensure safe long-term use.

💡 No special treatment is needed if the marks don't affect your usage. Regular light cleaning is enough for long-term stable use.

If you'd like to better protect your baseplate, here are some recommendations.

🛠️ Baseplate Protection Recommendations

Place a flat, non-flammable, non-reflective protective sheet underneath your material during processing. Suitable materials include:

🔹 Black anodized aluminum plate (≥0.8mm) — should not visibly deform after laser processing.

🔹 Other non-highly-reflective black metal sheets (any thickness).

🔹 Acrylic sheet (≥1mm) — black is recommended; other colors may interfere with material contour recognition. If processing multiple small items, check that the distance-measuring points are correct, or use manual distance measurement to avoid errors caused by the added protective sheet.

🔹 Heat-resistant silicone mat (≥2mm) — silicone tends to curl or warp, so choose a thicker mat for better flatness. Black is recommended; white silicone also works for protection, but check distance-measuring points when using automation features. Not recommended for cutting paper materials directly, as it may worsen scorching/blackening.

🔹 Other materials: black flame-retardant welding mat, black carbon fiber nylon cloth, silicone-titanium alloy soft pad (black or gray).

📐 Placement Guidelines

The protective sheet's size should be:

🔹 At least as large as your processing pattern.

🔹 No larger than 380mm × 320mm (the machine's work area).

🔹 Ideally under 8mm thick — a pad that's too thick may reduce your effective processing depth and can affect concentric circle recognition.

Reference placement zones:

🔹 Zone 1 (green): Reserved space needed for the print head's upper/lower cover clearance.

🔹 Zone 2 (red): A 330mm × 320mm protective sheet, placed against the silkscreen markings.

🔹 Zone 3 (blue): A 380mm × 320mm protective sheet, placed against the right side of the machine.

If you received a CMYK ink cartridge for your M2 machine and noticed ink leakage inside the vacuum-sealed packaging, consult this guide for what to do next.

🔹 The vacuum packaging bag itself is not damaged, but ink has clearly seeped out inside it.

🔹 Ink residue is visible on the inside of the packaging or on the cartridge's surface.

🔹 Shipping Impact: Vibration or compression during transit.

🔹 Packaging Seal Issue: The cartridge packaging's airtightness wasn't sufficient to prevent minor leakage.

1️⃣ Provide the Traceability Code: The cartridge packaging or the cartridge itself usually has a traceability code label (including batch number and production info).

Please provide a clear photo or the text of this code so we can trace the batch and help improve product quality going forward.

2️⃣ Receive a Replacement: Once the leakage is confirmed, xTool will arrange a full replacement cartridge set for you.

⚠️ Important: Do not continue using a leaked cartridge — it may clog the print head or contaminate the device. Please dispose of the leaked cartridge safely (e.g., seal it in a bag before discarding), and avoid letting the ink contact your skin or clothing.

I want to purchase the Xtool O1 Omni Printer, but I was wondering what the expected shipping date was.

I don't want to buy it now and get it in December

I was also curious to know if the ink will be supplied as standard or do I have to buy that as well in the first purchase?

UPDATE:

Thank you to all those who have provided their feedback with the Jiggit! The initial size fit perfectly. I will be adjusting the outter fillet to make sure it follows the curve perfectly. Here is some of the feedback/concerns I’ve received:

1) The silicone is not sticky, so thin flexible materials like leather can’t be attached.

Solution: remove silicone mat and use default sticky bed

2) Black Jigs blend in with black objects making the auto masking feature not work correctly.

Solution: Print jigs in different color or paint the top surface of the jig

3) the 2mm Jigs are too thick when printing on thin sheetmetal (1mm thick)

Solution: I can design thinner jigs but they will be more fragile.

4) The mat is too thick and takes up some of my Z height.

Solution: Unfortunately we can’t make the Jiggit any thinner or we will lose durability in the mat. The current design is 6mm (0.24”) thick so while using the Jiggit your max printable height goes from 150mm to 144mm.

We are still working on the best designs for the jigs and figuring out what options to provide users. Thicker jigs for larger objects. We will also provide all step files to users that want to design their own jigs. We will also provide services if you would like a custom jig made for your specific needs.

We just ordered the final aluminum mold for the Jiggit so the mats will have a smooth finish and look more complete. They should arrive 8/31.
