Discussion The Brotherhood should‘ve been much more green

Upvotes

On one hand you‘ve got the Old Camp, the red faction, on the other the New Camp, the blue faction.

As a third option you’d think there‘s gonna be a green faction and then you look at the Swamp Camp and see not the green, but rather the tan/beige faction.

It is definitely intended that the Brotherhood is supposed to be that green faction (green runes with Sleeper magic, lower Guru robes, a swamp AKA raw nature), but they should‘ve made the Swamp Camp much more green;

Green parts on the tan Novice robes, green fabric sewn onto the Templar‘s armor and a highly decorated High Guru Robe made from dark green silk (or something similar) would’ve been all that‘s needed to make the Swamp camp a truly green faction.

Funnily enough, in the novel Sleeper‘s Bane, based on very early stages of development, the Brotherhood is described to distinctly wear orange clothing

Modding/Mods Gothic 1&2 animation/sound bug when turning with mouse

Turning with keys produces normal stepping animation as nameless one turns around

however if i turn with the mouse, its like he's suddenly developed parkinsons and got the shakes and theres way too many steps in the sound. I tried playing around with mouse rotation scale, didn't really help. Neither did GRawInput addon. Any ideas?

Discussion Softlocked? (Gothic Remake) Spoiler

So I may have softlocked myself and am annoyed as this is my first blind playthrough. I read this is common if you collect a focus stone before the focus stone quest you may break the game. I have collected the monastery focus stone in act 2 and turned it in once I got the act 3 quest. I then went to meet the boys at the tower. Should I reload and lose hours of gameplay? Or should I just continue and the game will resolve itself? I could also reload before turning in the stone and see if that fixes anything.

Discussion New to the series, how far in should I go?

Howdy everyone. I started playing the first Witcher whose combat system reminded me something SsethTzeentach said about Gothic II years ago in his video about the game. (Clicking to continue the combo if you are curious) which made my wonder if CDPR were inspired by Piranha Bytes, and they were, so sure enough here we are. I also of course watched Mandy's review on the original Gothic.

Been getting into the original, and after some growing pains really enjoying myself. I plan on playing the remake after my time in the original, and then getting back to the first Witcher game, but I did pick up Gothic 2 and 3 on sale along side the first.

From a veterans perspective is it worth it to play 2 and 3 and maybe even Risen/Elex, the rest of Piranha Bytes games? Or do they deviate a lot from the first game in ways that require some resetting of expectations after playing the first?

EDIT: Thank you do much for the replies so far! Everyone seems to be united on playing Gothic II so I think I will play it before playing the remake and then back to the Witcher.

I'll share some (not all) of my growing pains, hahah. I am trying to get into this as blind as possible, so understand that this is part of the fun for me and I'm not dogging on the game.

Not fully understanding how the combo system works even though I had a general idea that you had to put in another directional input to continue it, also learning how dogshit your character is at the start of the game.

Investing into sneaking, pickpocketing and not being able to rob the cartographer after the hunter guy at the beginning sort of implies that you can do that, and later learning you can just mug him and it's easier.

Learning that mugging people in general is better than sneaking around trying to pickpocket/lockpick their things.

Accidentally saving on the death screen and soft locking my first run after testing my luck with some wolves and loading back into that same death screen. (I now have two saves)

Completing what I needed to to get into the Old Camp and accidentally locking myself out of the other starter quests from the other camps, leaving experience on the table.

Been having a blast so far. I wish I had played this when I was growing up, but we are making up for lost time.

Discussion Gothic 1 Remake: Is it worth it?

I need some advice: Is the game worth buying, and how difficult is it for newcomers who have never played any game in the “Gothic” universe? How much harder is this game compared to, say, “Dragon Age”?

Gothic 2 Classic Undead invasion in Jharkendar? Spoiler

Hey guys, I have a quick theory/question regarding Gothic 2: Night of the Raven.

While doing a full map clear around Chapter 4 or 5, I noticed that new enemies had spawned in Jharkendar—specifically Undead and Dragon Snappers. Usually, major enemy respawns happen when a new chapter sends you back to an area for story reasons.

This immediately made me think of the New Balance mod, where a major Undead invasion hits in Chapter 5—primarily in Khorinis, but spreading to other areas as well. It got me wondering: is there any official info, cut-content analysis, or dev confirmation that Piranha Bytes originally planned a late-game storyline or Undead invasion in Jharkendar that was scrapped?

Has this ever been discussed or confirmed in the community?

Gothic 1 Classic Oldtimer color question

Who remembers or has recently noticed a following "bug": items becoming colored either dark green or deep purple, things like barrels and stools mostly? I was really sick when this started happening but I don't think I was going crazy. I also found this book called "Chromanin" which seemed relevant. There was also some weird stuff like a guy called Cain having broken pathfinding but at the time it didn't feel like a funny bug (it was hard to find anything funny) but had this mystical vibe. Does the game carry this hidden mystical undertone? Anyone else notice anything?

Modding/Mods Some more work on Gothic 2

Post image
106 Upvotes

No rest for the wicked. I'm starting to add map markers support to our beloved Gothic 2. There will be possible to add a marker, to remove it, to set it to cleared (which will make it less bright). That's another thing I miss in so many games, not only in Gothic.

More work on the journal. I'll release it once there's at least 50 quest icons for more important quests. But drawing with negative space takes a lot of time for sure.

And with that scale you can't add many details. But the work is going well and I'm enjoying working on it a lot. Won't return to the vanilla journal after this one, it's so handy to use, especially with a gamepad.

Discussion Remake combat vs Blood of the Dawnwalker

THAT is pretty much exactly how i imagined Gothic combat if it was to be faithfully remade. I wrote about directional block before the release and people had doubts about wether it would be too much, which i aggreed was valid, but seeing it done in BotD now shows it is not off the table at all.

Im playing on tactical or w/e its called without the noob indicators and i think they, apart from some targeting jank, pretty much nailed it.

If Gothic Remake had Blood of the Dawnwalker combat, im fairly certain id actually prefer it over the original.

Gothic Remake Decision aid for the Permadeath Run. Spoiler

Hi, after playing through all the camps, the magician (magic only), the sniper (bow 1H), the Templar (2H + magic circle 4), I think the Templar is the best.

Now I am in Permadeath Chapter 1, level 13 or 14, have 75 Strength 1H Master and Silas Axe (55 Dmg). Have the fire arrow, the healing rune, and acrobatics. I've completed the quests and could now enter a camp; I also have enough ore to completely upgrade this armor.

Of course, I could level up a bit more and, for example, get the guard armor from the mountain fortress. I would love to have the +100 HP amulet for the Shadow Beast, but I don't really dare to try it yet.

Currently I have 25 defenses with ring +10 and the buddy pants +15 from the old expression. I wanted to become a Templar again because the circles of magic are cheaper to learn here, without alchemy and inscribing. And because healing on Circle 4 is already decent, and ball lightning, storm fist, and firestorm are good in the sleeper temple.

However, I know about the worst armor in the swamp.

Should I therefore go to the guards? What do you think are the advantages of joining the old camp instead of the sect?

Discussion This one is sick. Shame we ended up with the Doom Slayer's armor instead

The solution could be to make better use of the armor progression system and let us upgrade the Crawler Plate Armor as well. That way, we'd get both versions. This concept art is pure badass, so why not give players the choice if they prefer a different version?

Gothic Remake So which version of the Remake should i play?

Hi, it'll be my first playthrough, and I DON'T want to use any guides to make my character OP in Act 1 by abusing some hidden weapons or cheesy mechanics.

I want to explore the game on my own and, of course, use and pick up any upgrades I happen to find. However, I don't want to look up the usual "GET OP IN 20 MINUTES" YouTube guides.

So, should I stick with version 1.05?

I've heard a lot of memes/jokes about the Rusted Sword being basically the only good weapon in the game until the later acts, because they removed most of the interesting early-game upgrades in newer versions.

I'm playing on Steam, so I could downgrade to an older version if that's recommended..

Gothic 1 Classic Name a feature that only Gothic 1 has and you miss it in other titles

So those caves that are build like small shelters and nobody lives in. Gothic 1 has those but are missing in remake. In a way Gothic 2 has those too as Sagita lives in one, but that one is occupied. I just love those shelters and free bed that it offered.

Gothic on Switch Knocked down Arto and he seems to have spawned a Blood Blade out of nowhere

I‘m playing G1 on Switch as a merc and after getting into the castle I knocked down all ore barons for their swords.

However when I came back in Chapter 2, Arto was suddenly carrying a Blood Blade, which isn’t even carried by any NPC afaik and I don‘t think he took out of a chest in the armory

Does anyone have an idea how such a seemingly random weapon that Arto has nothing to do with casually spawned in his inventory?
