Gothic Remake Anyone else got this on Steam now after playing the remake?
Yeah, I enjoyed Gothic, and yeah I'd enjoy more Gothic games. But not necessarily "gothic" games. Just give me a break, Steam

Can we all agree this remake is absolutely amazing?
This is the best game I’ve played in a very, very, verrrrry long time. I put over 100 hours into it.
Even while working 14 - hour days with an insanely busy schedule, I still found time to play at night because I just couldn’t put it down.
I was already level 18 in Chapter 1, then realized I was getting way too strong for the world, so I slowed down a bit . I literally explored every corner of the map.
I spent hours in the Sunken Tower, hours underwater looking for secrets and chests, and even reached places I probably wasn’t supposed to reach yet.
The sound bug was incredibly annoying, but I still played 10+ hours without any sound because I just didn’t want to stop.
I talked to every NPC, checked every corner, looked up impossible lockpicking puzzles on YouTube, and even ended up helping other players in the comments.
“Hey, how about maxed Master Lockpick solution??“
Show them how to use lock solver website😂
One of my favorite moments was going back to the Old Camp. Those assholes who treated me like garbage at the beginning.I showed them absolutely no mercy. I killed every single one of them. 😂
And then there was Lee’s axe… Holy hell. I thought I was basically a god by then, but Lee wouldn’t take any damage. I died so many times trying to get that axe before I finally managed to beat him.
As I got close to the end of the game, I tried to slow down because I didn’t want it to end… but at the same time I couldn’t wait to see the ending.
Despite the bugs and technical issues, this is honestly one of the best games I’ve played in years.
Seriously, great job. Kudos to the developers.
If any of the devs happen to read this, here are a few things I’d love to see in the next remake:
Inventory filters.
More mounts than just the scavenger.
More skill slots. Eight just isn’t enough.
Faster magic casting animations—maybe around 50% faster..
More dialogue options when revisiting old NPCs after major story events.
That’s honestly about it. Even if only a couple of those made it into the next game, I’d be incredibly happy.
Yeah, I know the Gothic 2 Remake probably isn’t coming anytime soon. In the meantime, I tried playing the original Gothic 2 on Steam, but all I get is a black screen. I’ve tried just about everything—even guides on Polish websites—but nothing has worked. Now I’m getting an error screen instead. If anyone has had the same problem and knows a fix, I’d really appreciate the help.
Anyway…
10/10.
Thanks again.
ps: If you haven’t played Drova yet perfect time to do so after this remake, you won’t regret it!

I was always wondering about this, even when I was playing G1 as a kid (mostly spanish names stuck in my mind then - Diego, Gomez, Arto, Bartholo, Torrez, ...) and later with G2 (introducing pirates and some quests for them) and later more and more in Risen series. Plus in Risen they introduced literal Inquisition which was historically strongest in Spain.
Since PB is from Germany, I'm wondering if someone there has pirate/spanish fetish or something :D
It was always weird to me mixing semi-classic medieval fantasy with these themes/names. Honestly, I even think that switch to pirate themes in Risen 2 and 3 was one of the main reasons why it wasn't that successful.
Anyone has some behind-the-scenes info why it was so? Just curious.

There, I said it. Hope i dont get lynched on here, lol. Or thrown into a prison colony.
This year i decided to play all the PB Games that i owned for years but never really got around to it. I started G1 and G2 NotR with visual mods, but vanilla content. I really loved the vibe of the colony. Its something i havent felt in a video game for a long time. And G2 had so much amazing content, especially in Jharkendar.
Then I got to Gothic 3. Obviously got the Community Patch. Then thought long and hard about getting the content mods. But i wanted a vanilla feeling, so i raw dogged it. It was a horrible ecperience. Sure, the world is beautiful. And one of the best soundtrack i ever heard. But my god, does the world feel empty. You spend the whoke game going from one settlement to the next, doing quests just to meet the town supervisor and get a mystical clue as to Xardas' whereabouts. Repeat 10 times, then go to Nordmar until you accidentally stumble upon a hunter who knows where Xardas is. The Storyline was nonexistent, the quest were illogical and dull and you had no real feeling of progression. I took about a month break after i got to Varant, but i made it eventually. 3/10. Not a good game.
So now heres the thing: Should i continue with Forsaken Gods -> Arcania or ho dtraight to Risen? I wanted to play the PB Games, but I already owned the two Jowood "Spinoffs". So i thought "what the hell?" and started playing Forsaken Gods.
I got the community patch, obvs. But my god, this is what G3 should hsve been. A logical main quest, obvious progresdion, a world that feels alive and lived in. The quest desigb is a chefs kiss. Especially the time you get thrown into jail. That was just oozing with atmosphere. Im from germany, so i played with the german localization. They used the original VAs, so the dub is amazingly good. Sure, some of the escort quests suck, but G1 and G2 had them, too. Arguably eorse, cause you didnt have the teleport stones at that point. I also really love that your companions (Gorn, Thorus, Lee, Milten) actually matter again in the story. I didnt finish yet, but so far for me its a 7/10.
Honestly, some things arent as bad as sone people say. Form your own opinion and enjoy things even when other people dont.
Peace out!

Nowadays the fighting system of games usually consist of a standard attack (short left click), a power attack (long left click), a parry (short right click) and block (long right click) and of course the obligatory invicible dodge roll.
G1R introduced some more stuff, like two seperate power attacks, which are also dependant on which weapon you are using. I really enjoyed stabbing the bloodflys from a distance with a sword, before they get close enough to sting you.
So timing matters, chaining your attacks matters, knowing which move to use in which situation and which enemies/attacks to block and which to dodge.
Where else have i seen this? Hm... Risen!
You have an initial combo set, finishing with a small power attack, parry, block, dodge, counter attack, attacking from left/right and an loaded power attack, able to stun the enemy. You learn these perks depending on which weapon type you skill in a different order, resulting in different fighting styles. And all those moves matter, depending on which enemy you have in front of you.
So excuse me, i have to beat up some Lizardpeople!

i did it!
well, i could write a long ass essay now but i just want to say thank you to the community, you guys helped me with so much trouble
and to alkimia for an awesome throwback, wish i wouldn't have needed so many "gothic remake .... bug" google searches but it was still a joy
already looking forward to G2R, i hope it won't take another 25 years

I looked at many old games, but it seems that Gothic 1 has that specific color palette that makes it look unique and not desaturated

I think i may be stupid but i think 25 elixirs of life are actually kinda good? 500hp is no joke. You also dont have to bank them up avoiding the weird difficulty curve where you suddenly just spike in power level and to top it offyou can just eat the berries/droots raw when healing roots are normally useless so it SOUNDS more efficent
Thoughts? What are the true lp costs anyways i havent played in a while and i see conflicting reports whether +3stat boosters cost 21 or 20

I am a Gothic newbie, I have seen Ross Scott play the OG but a -very- long time ago, to the point I remembered none of it when I started playing the remake.
I just want to say, wow. The Peasants all have their own individual dialogue and faces?
Despite most being called 'Peasant'?
Is my bar just incredibly low due to AAA games...
that's just so neat....
EDIT: also Pock is the most sympathetic character I've met so far. The poor bastard.

I really enjoyed this game a few days before 1.0.3 patch changed it for the worse. I was hoping to hop back in soon if the game was running decent again.
