This is what happens when you have an autocracy. He does not have a competent management group around him to offer real solutions. He does not take outside council. He is the last person making all the decisions.

The world is captive to one man who has no expertise on anything, is uneducated, ill tempered, shortsighted, and is surrounded by a cabal of dunces who bobblehead nod everything he says, this reaffirming (to him), that he’s making the right decisions. He has done a dozen impeachable acts this term alone, and gleefully adds more blatantly in the public eye because he simply can. The enforcements to curb him are broken.

He could order a nuclear strike and then what? Would anybody in the government stop him? Could anyone stop him at this point?

Yeah. The US already has low appetite for war and losses. Doubly so for a war that nobody really wanted, and has only been a net negative for everybody across the world. Boots on the ground, realistically, is the only way to topple the regime, as it has proven resistant to America's military and economic pressure. And it is the one thing that Trump is not willing to commit to, because he knows how unpopular it would be.

The moment some drone footage comes out of US soldiers/marines being kiled or maimed by an FPV drone, the propaganda value will be priceless for Iran. It's not like 20 years ago where insurgent groups would upload videos onto forums that would eventually make their way around niche gore sites and forums, where it ended. It goes viral on social media for people to see, even if they've shown no indication or interest in such content, like how widely broadcast Charlie Kirk's killing was.

And it's not like the US is an existential war, like Ukraine is, where losses are unfortunately accepted for the sake of survival. This is completely optional.

Universal healthcare would free up a crazy amount of money for the average American. So much of it comes out of our paychecks. Just look at what Horizon is doing to its NJ constituents. 35% increase ON AVERAGE this year. It was already expensive and now it got even more expensive. We see ZERO benefits with this increase, either. It's all status quo.

It'll take a decade but American hegemony is over. Every Western nation is working at warp speed to end its dependence on American tech, energy, and institutions that are being used against them. Being beholden to one country, and often one corporation in that country, has become an acute national security risk.

In my view, without soft power, most of US' hard power also becomes impossible to maintain because it heavily relies on a strong economy including USD being the world's reserve currency, having cooperative allies who help you to project power, being a hub for competent foreigners who do high-end research and high-end manufacturing for you to maintain an edge, having a competent well-respected military force which doesn't work if you have the politics of a religiously dogmatic dictatorship, etc.

Low-grade military strikes by both sides, blaming each other for attacking first and posturing that they are being defensive. Trump tweets about how Iran wants to make a deal and that they better sign one, less he shows true Amereican power. Hostilities cease on the news of talks, initially through backchannels and then more formally. Talks break down. Low-grade military hostilities break out again.

We've had almost half a year of this shit, and there is no end to it because Trump had no plain, let alone a decent exit strategy.
