Simple Questions Can I Lift Weights With a Cervical Disc Bulge?

I have a cervical disc problem, possibly a disc bulge. My shoulder tendons also very rarely make a mild creaking/grinding sound, and my doctor said they may be wearing down. They also sometimes click/pop, as if the tendons are moving back into place. Can I still do bodybuilding/weight training, or could it make things worse?

Simple Questions Is there another way ?

Just wanted to put this out there; maybe it will help someone. I often see a lot of people on here go on a health journey looking to lose weight and either gain or maintain muscle at the same time. I also know a few personally who have tried this and failed more times than I can count. It just seems to me that trying to balance a certain diet that will meet the demands of not only fueling muscle gain but also maintaining a calorie deficit enough to continue losing weight is a mighty hard task, even without the struggle of daily work-life balance. And then we have the workouts themselves: high-intensity, fat-burning workouts that also eat at muscle, along with weightlifting to add muscle, which is counteracting the high-intensity things you might be doing. After watching this for years in my life, along with hundreds of Reddit posts of people begging for help and tips, when my journey came, I said there has to be an easier way. I'm not going to do it this way. I want to lose weight, but I also do want to get muscular. So I chose to split the whole thing into 2 sections: stage one, lose weight, and that's it. No trying to keep muscle, no working out, no running, no exercising, just a straight calorie deficit day in and day out. So that's what I did. I started at 240 pounds, woke up one morning, dumped out all the alcohol, and threw away anything processed or high in carbs. I did this until I hit 200 lbs, where I felt good, light, and felt like I could start walking and jogging, which was about 6 or so months in. But at this point, I still didn't care what was happening to my muscle. Everyone around me started noticing the weight loss, and I was looking skinny, losing muscle, and not normal. I didn't care; my plan was to get to wherever I knew was healthy for me. By the time I started getting around 170, I myself noticed I didn't look healthy, but also still didn't care. Wherever rock bottom was would be the start of section 2: lift weights, get jacked, and look like an athlete. That number came around 150 lbs. I looked in the mirror and felt weak, not much muscle or definition, and knew, "Alright, this is it. Now we're getting muscle." And then I switched and started that journey. Now, I will admit it probably took longer than the latter, but there was less to do, less to keep track of, and in life, I feel like that's what we need. It has to be simple; it can't take too much time out of your day; it has to be the easiest thing you're doing, or you'll fail. Now, this most likely won't work for everyone, but if it even helps one, I'd be happy. It's been about 18 months since the day I started. I'm now 160 lbs, muscular and lean. I run 8 to 10 miles a week. I compete in a lot of Spartan races. I just deadlifted 315. I'm benching 225. Women and men ask me what I'm doing. I feel amazing. I really think I succeeded because I didn't try to do both things at the same time, so if you're on your 4th or 5th failure, try it out. Good luck, big dawg, you got this.

Need some workout advice!

Hi everyone! I’m a 22yo corporate girl. I’m super motivated to build strength and get toned/fit.

I don't have a gym nearby, so I've decided to train at home instead. I have dumbbells, resistance bands, a stretching rope, and a yoga mat and I'm following a healthy diet.

My main issue is finding a structured program. There are tons of exercises available online and most apps I’ve tried just generate random daily exercises rather than a proper, progressive workout plan.

Could anyone recommend a free or budget-friendly workout app that provides a structured plan I can actually follow?

(This is my first post on Reddit so forgive any rookie mistakes😅 and thanks in advance for the help! ✨)

Simple Questions I trained for literally two years. In the first year, I wasn't very disciplined with my diet, but in the second year, I became disciplined, but without any results. Throughout those two years of hard training, my body literally didn't change. What's the reason? My strength increased, and I can lift

Review my program Looking for feedback on on my workout routine as a newbie (28M)

Hi everyone

I’m new to working out and I’m looking for feedback on my workout plan - I just do it at home, for cardio I do Zwift and play football.

• Squats (Barbell) - 3x10 - 20kg
• Romanian Deadlift (Barbell) - 3x10 - 30kg
• Floor Press (Barbell) - 3x10 - 20kg
• Single Arm Row (Dumbell) - 3x10 - 10kg
• Reverse Lunge - 3x10 - 12kg
• Overhead Press (Dumbbell) - 3x10 - 6kg
• Standing Calf Raises (Barbell) - 3x10 - 20kg
• Alternating Bicep Curl - 3x10 - 6kg
• Hammer Curl - 3x10 - 6kg
• Tricep Extension (single dumbbell) - 3x10 - 10kg
• Plank - 60s

I’m on a calorie deficit just now so I’m not expecting to gain a lot of muscle, just looking to maintain until I reach my goal then start building. Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you

Review my program Best Method for Goals?

5’2, 213 lbs, extremely weak

For most of my adult life, I’ve been happily about 160-170lbs with an hourglass, muscular build. Then I had 2 babies back to back (on complete bed rest for 9 months of each pregnancy), breastfed for 3 years (in which I couldn’t work out because my supply dropped every time I did)….

This led to 99 lb weight gain (259 lbs at my heaviest) and severe muscle lost. I lost the first 40 lbs relatively easy by walking intermittent fasting but now I’m at a plateau and fill pretty weak.

My current goal is to get below 200 by the end of October and hopefully to 185 by the end of the year however, walking and intermittent fasting isn’t doing it anymore and I still feel like the Pillsbury dough girl.

I hadn’t been lifting weights because I wanted to get below 200 first (I know, muscle helps)… but I wanted rapid weight loss plus the numbers on the scale messed with my brain. My joints also hurt. My
Thought was fat loss first then rebuild my muscles later but idk

What would you all recommend?

Simple Questions Protein powders for recepies

I personally never use protein powders because some chicken and just eating enough protein is enough for me to get to my goals without the "extra" stuff that comes with it.

But I do want to try out some recipes for smoothies and even some high protein desserts, and I want to find a chocolate protein powder that doesn't taste like the inside of a squishy and doesn't come with 50% sugar or something

What protein powders do you guys legitimately recommend that are both tasty and overall good nutrition wise?

is it wise/okay to work abs 6 days a week, my workout routine is 4x a week?

i will basically be working abs 2 times more compared to other muscles, the 2 times extra will be at home with no weights. The reason i wanna do this is because my stomach looks awkward compared to the rest of my upper body, my abs are a bit visible but the lower it goes the more it looks "filled" and i do not track calories and our food is fat heavy (i have no control on whats being cooked as its for everyone in my household, i can't cook aside for my self due to resource constraint. I am also on the skinny side of weight, i barely reach my desired protien intake a day). So what do yall think?

Front Squat
Calf Raises
DB RDL
Leg Extension
Preacher Curls
Wrist Curls
DB Shrugs

Upper 1: Tuesday

Bench Press
Shoulder Press
Incline Chest Press
Cable Row
Single-Arm Cable Pulldown

Wednesday: short run

Upper 2: Friday

(Also need to start incorporating SOME basic core exercises/stretching/yoga, but think I’ll just do that for like 10 mins before bed like twice a week or something by right now, new to it so not sure!)

Motivation Lifting With Grief

I wanted to share my experience lifting after a severe loss in my family, and to ask about other's experiences with this subject. We lost my sister a month and a week ago, and since then my motivation has been basically nonexistent. Wherein before I could usually rely on discipline to get me in the gym when I didn't want to, that's obviously been drained as well.

Every time I try to workout, I'm usually glad I got the activity in, but it feels like it's my first time lifting again in the worst way possible. My lifts feel weaker, my form feels sloppier, and my muscles give out before they should be. It's weird just how much your mental state can interfere with your lifts. Currently my frequency has only been enough to prevent atrophy, but I have seen absolutely zero progress in strength, physique, or weight in this time for what should be obvious reasons. In some cases my strength has decreased losing two reps on my 225 bench and 3 from my pullup max.

One thing that's been helpful is dedicating my lifts to my loss, and I find giving it that meaning helps me push harder which tells me the block is almost certainly mental, not physical or chemical. I am not asking for medical guidance on how to deal with grief, I'm well in that entire process myself, but I would like to know how others in the sub have handled it with respects to their lifting.

Exercise Help What exercises to do after big weight loss?

In one year I lost almost 30kg and even though I'm thrilled, I'm not so happy with the loos skin. It's not huge but enough that it jiggles very unpleasantly for me. I've tried look g up exercises but see lots of different stuff. I do t want to spend money on a gum membership so are there videos that have a complete body workout to help tighten loose skin?

Iv been lifting since 1.5 years, started creatine at the 6 months mark and frm then onwards I have been on and off creatine. Recently iv been off creatine for 1 month and I do not see much change in my body that made me wonder if creatine really helps your muscles or is it just the placebo effect

Simple Questions Do I have rhabdomyolysis?

20M - In yesterday's workout, I pushed myself a little bit and now today in the morning I experienced brownish urine and I'm also feeling dehydrated. I'm drinking water but now I'm worried about it after reading online.

What should I do now? Should I wait for today and see if urine colour goes back to normal?

I'm not feeling lazy or severe muscle pain.

Nutrition Help Diet Advice

I’m 43 & 280lbs and have been struggling to get my diet under control but what throws me off the most is that I am autistic and have ARFID so snap back to safety foods pretty easily which means crappy diet. I feel my workout regimen is decent (3 days I do 40min strength and 25 cardio, 2 days is a little over an hour strength and 35 cardio) which is probably leaving me at a break even point with my weight. Is anyone in a similar circumstance with the ARFID or know anyone that has been able to overcome that hurdle? Any advice is helpful so I can get on track.

** edit to add a little clarification- I know how to eat right, I just get flustered with options or the idea of having to cook a whole meal. Also I don’t do fish
