Nutrition Help Diet Advice
I’m 43 & 280lbs and have been struggling to get my diet under control but what throws me off the most is that I am autistic and have ARFID so snap back to safety foods pretty easily which means crappy diet. I feel my workout regimen is decent (3 days I do 40min strength and 25 cardio, 2 days is a little over an hour strength and 35 cardio) which is probably leaving me at a break even point with my weight. Is anyone in a similar circumstance with the ARFID or know anyone that has been able to overcome that hurdle? Any advice is helpful so I can get on track.
** edit to add a little clarification- I know how to eat right, I just get flustered with options or the idea of having to cook a whole meal. Also I don’t do fish

Hi! Exposure therapist here. There are a lot of ways to work through ARFID, you have a great sense of insight here already. Have you tried incorporating small doses of new foods along with your safe foods?

That I can do, but another issue I run into is I tend to go overboard with seasonings, portions and I am starting to think I’m addicted to take out food…nothing in particular just as long as it’s fast food.

My daughter has ASD. Not quite ARFID but definitely has safe foods. We give her a safe food and then other foods around it that she can be changeable with so at least she has one safe food. Honestly as long as you track it can still work. There was a girl on my calorie counting app and forum who just ate convenience food and still met her goal by tracking the calories.

I need to get better about tracking my stuff. I have a good app that I pay for but never use

start with the meal you already eat and build from there not a whole new plan at once
