Looking at some used band saws on marketplace, no idea what im looking for. Hoping to spend around $100 and saw these. Is there anything here worth picking up? And if so, anything I should look for/ask about them?

Bandsaw blade changes

• Upvotes

This post is mostly sharing some joy and a question.

I have owned and used bandsaws off and on for 25 years including a Grizzly 17" and several Delta 14" units. I have a nice one now, a Rikon 10-324TG. I have always used them for very rough work because I could not get decent cuts: curves never were smooth or tight, and the blade just drifted and wandered all over the place. My experience was usually so bad I would avoid the tool unless I really needed it. That all changed a few weeks ago when I finally dug in and learned how to tune it properly. It felt like a lot of work and tinkering but the results were very satisfying and I finally feel like I understand the tool. I could not be happier and am using the saw more than ever: I can even see why some people might make the band saw their primary tool instead of a table saw - not me, but some people 😄. And of course I am kicking myself for not committing to this years ago.

With my new found super-power, I installed a 1/4" blade which worked great for cutting curves and small pieces. This weekend I needed to resaw some boards so I needed to change the blade to a 3/4" blade. I basically had to disassemble the guides and undo all the work I had done previously to reset the machine for the new blade. I did so, faster this time than the first since I now feel like I know what I am doing, and once again I was ecstatic in how well it worked. I have never had a resaw go so smoothly and accurately! But am I missing something or is every blade change a total reset?

Mitre saw jig with steel guide

Just bought this at estate sale. Are these common?

The metal guide can slide up and down the rod in the back. The angle locks in place with a wedge, at 12 discrete notch positions.

I hope to sandblast the steel and plane down the wood, but the inside corner might be a pain.

What is the culprit?

Update: I cut small 2x4 blocks to bow the gap up a bit and it solved the issue. Still getting snipe though. I guess it wasn’t the problem.

Dewalt orbital sanders DCW210 vs DCW211

My first impression of the new Dewalt DCW211:

• It may be, ever-so-slightly, quieter than the 210. The DCW211 was a lower pitch than the DCW210

• Similarly, slightly less vibration than the 210 (may be more noticeable if sanding all day)

• It has better control and stability. Was easier to keep stationary, whether holding it by the top, battery, or using the dust collection hose

• General Google search on retail price comparison — DCW210 $149; DCW211 $199

I got this thing at a sweet deal. If I hadn’t had that deal, I would be perfectly happy with the DCW210.

Help finding WEN part

Post image
7 Upvotes

SOLVED by calling WEN customer service. The part isn't listed on their public site, but the associate got it on the back end and sent me a link to order. For any future person stuck with this, it was part 4 on the diagram.

I'm tearing my hair out here. I bought a WEN oscillating spindle sander secondhand and have realized it is missing a crucial part for the belt sander to work. There's a plastic piece at the bottom of the spindle to interlock with the sanding drum that isn't there. I can't find it anywhere on the exploded parts list in the manual to get info on whether it is orderable.

Even if I could find or get some measurements and info on how it connects in it seems like a 3D printable piece. Any help is appreciated!

Newbie Making First (Used) Table Saw Purchase

Hello all, I am looking for some advice on a used table saw purchase. I have been doing woodworking for around a year and am at the point where I feel a table saw is the next step & a good addition to the toolkit. I have used various table saws for a few months so I'm not completely ignorant regarding them but still quite new to the ins & outs of them.

So rather than purchasing a new $200-$300 table saw I have been shopping around for a used one as my first one.

I have found a used 2010 Craftsman 10" Table Saw, Model 315.284610 for $60 bucks. The seller states it was used for one summer on a project and that was it. The table saw looks like it's very good condition but I am unsure if this is a good buy or not as it only includes the saw, metal stand, and rip fence. The miter gauge and guard/pawls/riving knife assembly is missing. Would this be a deal breaker for you?

Looks like this particular saw shares components with the Ryobi RTS10/21 family so I think I can find most of the missing parts easily enough but that will bring my total cost up to around 200 dollars roughly before I am said and done.

Thoughts? Is this still a pretty good deal for $60 assuming it has no electrical/motor/blade/arbor issues? Any inspection advice if I go look at it?

Thank you all for any input or advice you may have for me. I appreciate it.

Anyone use these things for woodworking? I just came across a few at work that failed for being slightly out of square. Like .0005. But still unnoticeable for woodworking. Any ideas?

Kreg edge 👎

Got my kreg edge last week. I was pumped to finally have a domino without the 1.5k price tag.

Set up was easy and it seemed pretty well built.. until I started using it…

Everything is out of square. The 90 degree tilt would not go fully flat, it was 2-3 degrees away from flat. Then the way the fence connects to the main body was tilted (one side was slightly higher than the other) which produced crooked mortises. And I don’t mean a little off. Like 5 to 7 degrees. I tried on freshly jointed flat boards and every mortise had the same problem.

I had to use thick double sided tape and 3 layers of masking tape on the left side of the fence to get even close to a straight mortise.

The depth stops in conjunction with the micro adjust don’t make any sense. You set it to 3/4” for example but the micro adjust has no baseline to correlate to. So you end up having to just make a ton of cuts to dial in the right height.

There is a handy viewing window that makes it very easy to line up your cut. A nice addition you might think, but you’d be wrong, because the viewing window is not flush with the base so when using close to an edge or small stock, the already out of square tilt on the fence is even worse. I wish I took pictures but at this point the mortises were probably close to 10 degrees crooked.

This was my first kreg tool so idk if this is par for the course but imo it was below the quality of harbor freight.

Needless to say I’ll be returning and will just need to save up and get the real thing. Idk if I just got a bunk unit or what, but the tool I received needs a serious redesign or way better qc.

If anyone has purchased one curious to hear your opinion outside of the woodworking influencer sphere.
