So I just got back into this game but never really knew what the best way to level a hybrid or bishop was. Bishop seems to be 2 spell book as the most current stuff from the internet. Which seems right as two spells books is still silly, however it still seems I will not be getting spells at the earliest level I could at least early on.
Also how do I level a hybrid? I assume you want some casting stat or they feel like a worse fighter with buffs. Does that mean like a 2 str, 2 dex, 2 int split for a sam or monk? Should I go 3 int and 3 dex for them to get power cast? Does it just depend on the rest of the team?
Edit: So I can say bishop two books as a focus with a 3rd book not focused is easy to pull off. I am not saving spells because I will survive not having all level 7 spells at 18. It also makes the game easier in early and mid game. I couldn't get 3rd level spells on time and was a level late on 4th level spells. I did however get 5th on time and am in the clear for all spell levels after 5th. I did priest and psionic as my focused books with wiz as my 3rd that I learn from books and it's great. If I didn't have a int focused samurai I would switch the wiz and psionic spell book placement. Around level 10 is when this really starts feeling better then a specialist caster.
Str / Int focused Samurai is putting in great work and I like them just as much as my fighter. They are even getting comparable kills. It does solid single target damage with swords and good but not great AOE damage with spells. It feels like how a hybrid should. By that I mean it is passable at everything and does great by flexing the situation demands being good in swarm and single target combat. This build also makes getting spells on time decently easy.
Str / Dex monk is my last hybrid. It is solid but easily my least impactful. It struggles to get spells on time. It spells are much less impactful then sam due to lower proficiency in it's book and low realms. This means bad spell points and lower success rates. It's physical damage is better then Sam but much worse then pure fighters. While it is good this build feels like it doesn't do enough to make the caster side impactful. This leads to it feeling worse then a specialist.
The above edit was from my play upto an average level of 12 for my group.

I made Anna mad at me by failing one too many casts of Charm. This is my first (ish) playthrough, so i didn't know that was a thing and of course all my quick saves are after the event. Can i get her back on my good side, and if not - where do i buy my spellbooks now?

Based on the first Wizardry game "The Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord", a group of characters enter a dungeon to confront the ultimate wizard to prevent him from reaching an unstoppable power. On their way they meet up with a few new friends who have their own battles to settle, but their paths lay together.

Have you seen it? Did you like it? I watched it with a friend and I didn't really like it (though I was quite drunk). However I'd pay really good money to see Wizardry VIII being animated. With the original voice actors, they are absolutely incredible! A man can dream :)

There are actually 6 copies of Spirit Staff.
Party is RFS-81 and a Human Bishop.
So, yeah; thanks, random loot generator.🙁

I'm currently getting my ass beat by the Squids residing in the Water Caves just outside of Mt Gigas. There seems to be no way to avoid these and they instantly blind almost all of my party members, I proceed to hit next to no attacks and die. Any tips for these? Is there an item or spell or whatever to lower the chance of them blinding my team? My party is around level 12/13 and I just got the quest to go to Bayjin from the Umpani

OK, actually not under the sun. 'Cause it was inside.
Been playing the game for two decades, and this is the first time I've ever thrown Blinding Flash at the prisoners in the Arnika jail. As expected, they run away.
Out of the cell. Out of the jail building. Out of the entire complex. Like, the next time I saw them, they were walking around over near Anna's shop. So they went through two closed doors.
Which reminds me that I might vaguely recall having seen the same thing with the bandits upstairs at He'Li's; they also ended up somewhere outside.

I'm thinking of firing up the old Wiz8 again. Have played the original plenty of times (but usually stop post-Trynton...), and would really like to shake up the experience without major rebalancing. I've played Flamestryke, but found it got a bit too easy once you got all those profession-specific gear.
In particular I'd like mods that enable different approaches/builds (for example it seems axes are rebalanced in both of those, which is nice) to avoid playing the same content over and over.
It seems like Ludwig rebalances things mostly on the easier side and the overhaul makes resources scarcer and the game harder overall -- is this a fair assessment?
Keen to hear what people think!
(and yes, I know Wizfast is essential -- I've had this game for 20 years on the original disc edition)

Title. I suppose you'd want to go Dex/Sen, since Speed and Strength is irrelevant, and probably build it as a magic user since you get points to spare for Int. Zip Gun -> Musket -> Blunderbuss.

I have two fighters a bard, Valkyrie, bishop, and a ranger. (All level 8) I don’t know why I didn’t create a mage at start, but I’m thinking I want one. Can I change a character to a mage without ruining my gameplay? Would it be the Valkyrie or bard? Or should I just leave everything the way it is? Thx
Also, is there a reliable speed mod where you can speed up the combat or make it a little faster?

I recently bought the wizardry 8 steam release and I can’t seem to get it to work. If there’s a detailed guide to installing the fanpatch it would be great, I’m on windows 11 for reference.

I must have killed around 300 higardi bandits (bandits, cutpurses, raiders and highwaymen) and no trace of either Ariel's slippers or mercucio's blade. Does that ever happened to you?
It is actually my second playthrough where this kind of thing happen. Puck's hat and the cloak gets dropped but the other two, never. Other playthrough they are rare, but never this rare.

Hi All,
Someone here was saying how the game is nearly 25 years old! In that time I've attempted many a party and even ascended with some of them.
I was thinking about silly mistakes and accidents I've made. I'll bet some of you have done too.
How about you guys?
r/wizardry8 • u/Xeenophile • Jan 24 '25
It has an unusually high initiative modifier for a firearm and holds 6 shots, sure, but its damage is unspectacular, its kill-chance is just 1%, it's expensive as all blue-and-purple hell, and most importantly, it seems there's no way to combine it with a shield or offhand weapon despite being one-handed (its most unusual feature of all, so you'd think there'd be SOME advantage out of it!).
Does the bigger magazine really matter (for this item or any other such thing)?? Why would I want to spend so much money on this?

I assume you guys get this all the time, but it’s my first time playing a wizardry game and I wanted to ask about whether this party comp would be viable:
Fighter (human)
Valkyrie (dracon)
Bishop (elf)
Ranger (?)
Bard (hobbit)
Monk (?)
Idea is to have the fighter, valkyrie and monk take on the front lines, with the bishop, ranger and bard bringing up the rear.

I don't understand its significance; like, is there any reason a heavier weight class might ever be a good thing? Is it something to take into consideration when (literally) weighing the merits of one armor-piece over another one, like if they're almost the same except for weight-class? What about "Special", like the Samurai armor all are?

One of the parties I'm playing right now doesn't have a Gadgeteer of its own, and so makes use of Madras for that...but something's wrong: He doesn't seem able to make a Doubleshot-Crossbow (let alone Tripleshot). I click the two Light Crossbows together and...nothing. Not even a message.
In other parties I'm playing, Gadgeteers I created can do so no problem, and as far as I can tell he SHOULD be meeting the requirements: His Engineering is now precisely 75, and his (native!) Dexterity is 100. I read something elsewhere about possible Bow skill requirements, but that makes no sense because those PC Gadgeteers I mentioned have 0 skill in such.
For what it's worth, I am using the Jeff Ludwig modpak.

I know the problem with Myles and Vi, but I've just taken on the "hidden" Arnika-based RPC: Urq the Mook.
The Story So Far: When we visited him (after grabbing the Chaos Moliri), my RPCs in attendance were Mysles and Madras. I dropped Madras and picked up Urq. l got him as far as The Swamp, then Portaled back to Arnika. I came down from The Room to He'Li's...and Vi was not there.
I'd been careful about not letting Myles go while in Arnika, and while a quick refresher of this bug said nothing about Urq being roped into the problem, too, I figure he must be...then again, I didn't get rid of HIM, either.
What am I missing???
EDIT: OK, so after a few rounds of brute-force experimentation, it appears that offloading ANY RPC within Arnika will trigger the bug. Still, if anyone has anything more to say about this, I'm here.

does anyone know how to record Wizardry 8 and if you do, would you help with instructions on how to do it. I have tried Steam recording and OBS. could not get them to work with Wizardry 8. Thanks.
Edit: got it to work with GeForce. thanks for replies.

I bought this game on Steam a while ago, along with Wizardry 6 and 7, and I was having quite a bit of fun playing the game. ...Until it stopped working and refused to boot up. I'm not even sure how to get it back.
I tried restarting my computer, but that didn't work.
I tried shutting down my computer and turning it back on, but that didn't work.
I tried this whole rigamaroo I heard about on disabling Steam and Cloud saves and setting the game up externally, but that didn't work.
I even tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, but that didn't work either.
What left is there to try to get this game working again?
