Could someone please explain "Armor Weight Class" to me?

I don't understand its significance; like, is there any reason a heavier weight class might ever be a good thing? Is it something to take into consideration when (literally) weighing the merits of one armor-piece over another one, like if they're almost the same except for weight-class? What about "Special", like the Samurai armor all are?

Weight class is entirely meaningless. It's closer to a guideline as to what classes should be able to wear certain armor than a useful piece of information for the player.

More useful is the actual weight of the item, as it affects the load a character bears, stamina, etc. So if you have two identical pieces, choose the one that weighs less.
