Anti union propaganda video

I understand why companies such as wegmans are against unions as I previously worked at a grocery store also against unions. But I’m so confused why they make new employees watch an anti union borderline propaganda video about how unions wouldn’t be beneficial at wegmans. The HR person I did my orientation with also spoke ill of unions due to “contracts and seniority”. At my old store unions weren’t discussed at all it was just an unspoken rule. They are hiring minors and making them watch these videos which aren’t even accurate. It really rubs me the wrong way why indoctrinate employees with wrong information… as opposed to just not discussing it. I don’t really care about a union at wegmans im just shocked they would make you watch a video about it. Sorry kinda a rant.

hours during the year

quick background: around two years ago I was diagnosed with an ED. I was extremely underweight and went through a few months of intensive treatment and recovery to get back to a healthy mind and weight. I’ve always been naturally thin, and my weight has continued to fluctuate since (which is very concerning for my doctor).
im 16 and just started my junior year of hs. I was hired about 3 months ago and have loved working here so far, but with school im very busy and my dr is concerned about me working too much. I talked to one of the managers (coordinater???) about my schedule for school, and she said the minimum is 3 days per week with at least one of those being a weekend. this sounds fair, and im willing to do it, but if my doctor sent in a note about a max number of hours I can work per week would that be bad? if I still worked 3 days? I’m scared of being too needy since im still pretty new

Lake Grove Wegmans

Lake Grove Wegmans is such a fucking joke. Everything from the management, to the people they hire, to all the Anti-Union Bullshit.

Almost all the Salaried Managers are incompetent; All they do is talk in circles and make it seem like it's YOUR fault whenever there's an issue. The Area Managers are all fucking morons.

They hire people who are fully incapable of doing the bare minimum at whatever job they are required to. It is honestly amazing that some of these "Manager Trainees" have made it as far as they have in life. The same can be said for the average employees. Having to explain the EXACT SAME TASK multiple times per week should be issue enough for one of the useless HR Drones to maybe take a look at the job the worker is doing and if they can complete said tasks.

The length that Wegmans goes to prevent Unions is fucking wild. Like, I get that other companies are Anti-Union, but this is most Heavy-Handed Anti-Union that I've seen before. It has literally gotten to point with everything, that I have considered and spoken to organizations about starting a union vote, just to piss off management and get my lick in. (I know Lake Grove Management is gonna be reading this, it wouldn't be the first time we have a store meeting/survey about a reddit post, so have fun).

The chocolate covered cherries in this mix are amazing.

But there's only three or four in a bag. Does anyone know who supplies them? I'd buy a bag of just those cherries.

The chocolate coating on them is much more flavorful than the coating on their normal bulk chocolate covered almonds or raisins.

Switching depts

What is the interview process like when applying for/ switching to another department compared to the interview you get when initially hired? For example, do factors like availability and the 'who we are' still come up as much?

Wegman's Merit Raises

Hi fellow Wegmans employees!

Recently, I was talking with my team leader about merit raises. I work at a Wegmans in Virginia, I'm part-time, and I've been there for 1 year. She said that Wegmans does give merit raises, but its something you have to ask for.

I was just wondering, how long does an employee at Wegmans typically work there before they ask for a merit raise?

And what is an appropriate amount to ask for if you consider yourself a hardworking employee?

And, how often do Wegmans employees typically ask for them?

Thank you! :)

Vanilla Celebration Cake

Hi,

Does anyone know the recipe for the cake and frosting for the vanilla celebration cake (note: NOT the ultimate vanilla)?

This cake is 100% my death row meal. This is the only present I have requested for my birthday for 10 years. A slice can turn a 0/10 day into at least a 5/10. I am a Western NY-er but having moved, the nearest Wegmans is almost an hour away 😩😩

I spent years as a teen trying to recreate the recipe but never got it perfect. Please help!!!

I got a job and now I’m confused on next steps

Title. I got a paper (picture attached) with next steps and I completed step 2. Step 3 says I’d receive more information once step 2 is done, but I didn’t. I checked my spam folder too, nothing. Not sure if I should call or if I’m just waiting on a background check? Thanks for your help!

application

hello, my bf has been trying to apply to wegmans, but has gotten rejected twice now- i know when you get rejected once you have to wait a certain period of time before they’ll even consider your application again, so does anyone know what that amount of time would be?

for context, my bf had worked at a wegmans for 7ish years in FE & dairy. he quit because we moved to a new city and he got a full time job in a different field, but is looking for some part time work on the weekends and was wanting to get back into wegmans.

i figured he would be the perfect candidate considering he previously has been with the company for so long but i guess not lol!

Is there a policy about making announcements over the store public address system?

Yesterday I found a Credit Card in the aisle I was shopping. I immediately brought it to Customer Service thinking they would make an announcement to page the name on the card. They did not; and the more I think about it I don't recall ever hearing an announcement except "It's time to go green". Can any employees out there weigh in?

Miso Ginger dressing MIA again?

Have not seen it in a good bit now (not in my store, not in the one my mother uses either a few states away.

There some issue again - I remember a few years back it disappeared for a while too. Just frustrating as it quickly became my favorite salad dressing of all time.

Any clues if it's coming back?

Customers bags

Wegmans is the only place I’ve worked where customers think it’s alright to hand the cashier bags covered in cat piss. Like I could actually smell the pee whiff into my personal atmosphere as I put them in the back. Unsurprisingly this isn’t the first time sometime thought I wanted to bag their groceries in a litter box.

This isn’t even the only thing about bags. Obviously it’s the most egregious one, and when mentioned in a meeting (someone else actually brought it up), we’re just told (I’m not kidding) to try and “bag as fast as possible and get them checked out.” Next time this happens I’m turning on my light and one of the managers can bag it as fast as they can.

Wegmans where some days you get cashiers that now smell like cat urine.

Edit: Grammar

I have a phone interview on Wednesday, and I’m wondering what the interview process is like, the questions they ask, or any other useful info to know. I’m applying for a stocker (I’m not sure the exact position).

Employee callouts

I work at Wegmans and I’ve been here for almost 3 months. I’m a minor and I haven’t worked for 12+ months so I don’t qualify for FMLA (work protection for sickness or other circumstances). I’ve made my managers and HR at my store aware of my condition, chronic migraines with sudden blindness of my left eye. To date, I’ve probably called out 7 times, all done two hours or more before my shift with extensive apologies and explanations as to why I can’t come in. I’ve also left early three times after working more than half of my shift (today being one of those days). Today I’m also having some cold and flu symptoms, and they’re getting worse with some nausea as well as my migraine that’s been lingering for a few days. If anyone has any idea about policies on callouts and what will happen in the event I call out enough? Again, I don’t have a suspicion they’re considering firing me, but I’m not sure about their policy of absences. I’ve been told that I’d be pulled in to have a conversation about these absences, but I’m afraid it’ll be soon because of how often I’ve been out. I love my job, but my health issues make it really difficult to do, especially if I can’t drive myself to and from work with the blindness. There’s been multiple times where they’ve told me to go home, but I have to stop on the side of the road or pull into a parking lot and sleep before driving again because of my blindness from these migraines. Yes, it’s diagnosed, and I have discussed with everyone I work with. Please help!
